i had a dream about a month or two ago about a somewhat generic "there's monsters and Killers™ in this small town and we, a group of 20 something young adults, are going to solve the mysteries!" show, except where the protagonist gets replaced by a changeling three episodes in. it's not treated as a major twist, it's not a super massive WOAH moment, it's treated like any other character introduction.
so the rest of the show progresses by following the new protagonist, the changeling, as they decide to solve the town mysteries too, since that's what the previous protag did. meanwhile, the protag finds himself deep in the monster side of the mystery, but with no way to report back to his friends.
cuz in this world (according to my dream), changelings can replace someone by stealing their face and life, but the original guy will turn into a changeling too. so they have to find someone to changeling into, and that person finds someone, and the cycle continues.
here's what my dream gave me as the protag (his face was very clear in my mind)
his name is yeong-jin he's a very typical shonen protag type of guy, aka dumb as a brick but pure of heart. he differs from a shonen protag cuz his gf is a normal person and he's fumbling her badly jfhgjdfgh
so ofc his changeling also looks like him, and this is what he looks like now that he's been replaced
the changeling (they go by multiple names throughout the story - they're called publically yeong-jin obviously, their "real name" is hope, and by the end, they change their name to ho-yeong. and yes it is a trans narrative <3 ho-yeong is explicitly transmasculine in both themes and "what do you mean you've never hoped to be born a guy"
it felt really important to me that ho-yeong's introduction wasn't meant to be a big twist or huge thing. it was just another character introduction, it was just one that came at the cost of another character. and the fact that it happened in episode 3 (of presumably a season that went on for about 13 episodes? longer?). it was early and it was eventful but then it's just nothing. that's just another character introduced.
idk it was really interesting so now i have these guys djkfghkjdfgh they have other characters in universe but my dream didn't elaborate further on them unfortunately so i just made them up (all i got was that one of the characters had a ponytail)
