My song for Lilith is "50ft Queenie" by PJ Harvey. A lot of Polly Jean's songs from this era are about giving the middle finger to gender norms, being larger than life, having an outsized level of confidence and swagger and being generally aggressive in ways women are often judged for! I feel like Lilith would relate to that a lot, even if her idea of empowerment is a little skewed. 😅 And, I mean, the women Polly Jean portrays in her lyrics aren't always sparkling examples either. "Rid of Me" really gets to the root of the possessiveness and toxicity in the way Lilith treats her relationships. This is another reason why I like PJ, because her version of feminine liberation leaves room for messiness and ugliness. And we support women's rights and wrongs in this house! 😉
