In which SlimYim finds a doll left in the CRUMBL CUBE. Aka where Buttons comes to life!
Mentions of surgery, organs, and meat.
"Just leave. You've broken enough.", SlimYim's voice echoed in the tourists' heads as they were unceremoniously thrown back into the elevator. Once the doors slid shut, they took note of their domain, counting how many new bodies were being amalgamated to the very floor and cleaning up fallen Gomballs and the Cube itself.
Something away from any of the new bodies, as if it had fallen during the battle, caught SlimYim's attention and she pulled it from the viscera it would be swallowed by. A doll now dangled in the air. Soft and plush with long curled hair, a frilled dress, and a tag still on its heel. Not even 100 coins and, if SlimYim had to guess, probably recently bought and its absence easily dismissed.
"What a peculiar thing.", SlimYim thought, tilting their body closer to the doll. He switched how they held the doll, watching the way it dangled as he held it by an arm, a leg, the torso, the head. "You are not poorly made, yet you have been left behind."
"How pitiful you are.", SlimYim thought, now holding the doll more gently, supporting its smaller form from just dangling in the air. "I may be able to change that, little thing."
It's thoughts and actions were not unkind as the Cube rose again and she laid the doll down atop it. Gently, the doll's chest was pulled open as if SlimYim were performing an autopsy. Truthfully, she was unsure if the idea would even work but something about the small doll had her feeling almost melancholic, sympathetic even.
Pulsing chunks of meat and organs were shoved into the doll's new chest cavity, staining the stuffing inside with still-wet blood. SlimYim pulled another object from the viscera of the meat and lastly placed one of the beating hearts into the cavity before pulling it closed tight.
With some gathering from fallen tourists, SlimYim was able to sew the doll's chest closed. And yet, much to SlimYim's disappointment, nothing happened. While sure this was the end of this little experiment, he kept the doll laid atop the suspended Cube.
"Well, if its time you need, then you shall have it.", SlimYim mused, leaning back from the Cube.
And when the doll began to change and finally showed an ounce of movement, SlimYim was right there to greet it to the world.
Didn't have anyone really beta read this so I may rewrite it if needed. But this gets the idea and event down.
Warnings for violence including sword throwing, stabbing, kicking, multiple falls, and a sprained wrist. Implied death/almost death.
The last round of the "night" started and Benny found itself one of the unlucky few selected to participate. Glancing around the area, it realized it was in a cemetery, standing next to an old tree. It seemed eerie but calm, somehow safer than most places to start out, strong intuition comforting the choice to stay rather than venture further for the time being. Whoever the killer was, they seemed to be far.
The choice was solidified as Benny's eyes landed on a generator sat next to one of the graves. It got to work quickly, no sinking feeling tangling their gut as they connected the wires to their corresponding plugs. Benny's thoughts wandered as they worked, bored and wondering just what would happen if it plugged the wrong wire in. Would it be electrocuted? The generator wasn't fully powered but surely there had to be electricity still coursing through the wires that would have some sort of reaction.
Benny started the last panel of wires as they began wondering who the killer was, surely it was too early to have any solid ideas without seeing the killer face-to-face. Then, a loud yet distant ringing that seemed to carry over the realm interrupted their thoughts. A sharp, intense chill ran down its spine, causing them to yank harshly at the wires in hand. Something was watching it. Benny glanced over their shoulder quickly, swearing they heard a voice hiss across the quiet night.
"The hell was that?", Benny muttered to themselves, goosebumps raising along their arms. Something was watching it. It was similar to when that masked guy got all pissed off, glaring under the mask like he could see right through you as he stomped after you.
They were not going to stick around to find out just what made the noise, hands leaving the half-finished generator. Their heartrate only continued to rise as they stood up, a sick rattling sound echoing across the cemetery. Something was watching it. It knew where she was.
"THIS IS MASS INFECTION!", the yell was accompanied by a sudden and fast rush of hot air that smacked against Benny's back. The pain was quick, a hard slap that instantly caused waves of nausea to rush over them.
Despite the sick feeling, Benny ran out of the cemetery fast, not enough of a fool to waste time glancing behind herself. She didn't even care to listen to the killer chasing after them, focusing on ducking around corners and trees in an attempt to shake them.
"Running is pointless!", Benny heard with that same nasty rattling sound as before. Before they could react, a sword suddenly struck their side with the hilt, causing them to tumble to the ground, winded. She scrambled to bat at the... window pop ups that sprung up within their vision, wasting no time in thinking about the logic of them as it struggled to get off the hard ground.
A kick to their side had them forced over on their back, eyes finally actually seeing their pursuer. Words stuck in Benny's throat as they took in the form of the new killer who stood over them, another sword aimed down at them, its twin lying on the floor nearby.
"I was right,", they started with a laugh, the cold amusement in their tone was taunting, "a new unfortunate face lost to this realm. It would be funny if it weren't so pathetic."
Benny barely listened to a word the killer spoke, eyes wide with something other than just fear. These twisted little games never bothered her, mostly being just one big adrenaline rush followed by hours of over-done paranoid worries. Yet, there was something about the way this killer moved that practically enchanted them. Though, that revelation didn't completely leave him rooted to the ground.
"So, your fear response is freeze, is it?", the killer taunts, voice practically dripping with venom. Mocking and contemptuous. They were glaring down at Benny from the other end of their sword, eyes locked to theirs, "How disappointing."
With the killer distracted by taunting their easy catch, they missed Benny grasp the previously thrown sword, giving him the opening to quickly swing it upward. The sword had her hand tingling and strained their wrist in a way it shouldn't if it was swung properly. The killer stumbled back for a second, taken aback, and giving Benny the chance to stand with the sword in hand. He laughed too, the sound only seeming to the anger the killer further, if that was possible.
"What was that?", Benny asked, smile on their face as they took short steps back away from the killer. Thank god for adrenaline completely overriding the feeling of the multiple new injuries on their body.
"Finally have a voice, is that it?", the killer growled, glare darting between Benny's face and his hands holding their sword. "So cocky for someone who doesn't even know how to wield a sword properly."
"Heh, then mind showing me how?", Benny asked, still moving backward. The killer scoffed at the pure audacity.
"Cocky and foolish. What an unfortunate combination.", the killer said, raising their sword up to point at Benny, the movement effortlessly graceful. The sword in Benny's hands was not light and yet this killer moved its pair like it weighed as much as a feather. "Though I will admit, you are audacious."
"Ya think so?", Benny asked, weighing his next options. They've made a bit of distant between the two of them and yet he was sure this killer would very quickly regain it once they realized. They needed to act now.
"A shame those traits will save you from nothing.", the killer laughed again, the sound as poisonous as their tone. They took a step forward, rolling their shoulder and repositioning their remaining sword.
"Well, I'd love to chat with the ethereal embodiment of my very impending doom and all but where's the fun in that?", Benny stalled, gripping the sword tighter. trying to figure out where to aim. The killer seemed taken aback for a second but, the scowl on didn't stay off their face for long at all.
"Your cheap attempts at distra-!", they start with a sneer, only to be cut off as Benny moved fast, throwing the stolen sword directly at the killer's head and running the hell away. The throw was nowhere near good but it was effective enough, smacking the killer in the face with the pommel and setting their crown askew. The angered noise that left them would've been enough to literally stop hearts.
Benny faintly heard that same high-pitch ringing from behind them.
"YOU WILL PAY FOR THAT!", the killer yelled, running after them quickly. Benny laughed as they ran, adrenaline doing even more wonders as the killer gained on them pretty quickly.
"I wasn't lying when I said that earlier by the way!", Benny yelled back, just saying whatever first came to mind as she focused on running. "You are absolutely enchanting!"
"Be quiet! Or I will cut your tongue out myself!", the killer yelled back.
"Hey, what should I even call you anyway?", Benny asked, breathing was starting to get harder and the killer was getting closer. Benny glanced over his shoulder, watching as the killer stopped and turned their body to the side, moving quickly back as they slashed their two swords across the air. Benny swore as that same sudden rush of air hit their already-bruised back, quickly toppling them back to the floor as they failed to catch herself, landing on her arm poorly.
Benny attempted to scramble back up, wincing at the pain that shot through her arm, wrist sprained and already beginning to swell. They couldn't even begin to think what their back must look like.
"Pathetic worm.", the killer scoffed, catching up quickly again before tossing one of their swords again. The small pop up windows were not Benny's main concern as the sword embedded itself in their leg. "Let us see you try running this time."
Their laughter was cruel as they circled around Benny like a bird of prey, crouching down to glare at them more directly. Benny still attempted to hold a smile, albeit strained, yet their brows furrowed and a grimace played on their lips.
"A shame your fight will be for naught.", they say with cold finality, eyes boring into Benny's, "You will die like the other miserable whelps before you."
"Heh, too late.", Benny gasped, laughing despite still struggling to catch its breath.
"What are you-?", the killer started, only to notice the creeping fog that was quickly rolling in. Their anger spiked again and they growled out another horrid noise and slammed their remaining sword down to where Benny's heart would be. "NO!"
The sword hit its mark and yet the fog took over both of their visions completely.
'The Survivors won.'
Benny opened his eyes to the warming site of the main cabin's dining table, sitting slumped with their head in their arms against it. Conversations carried around them as Benny raised his head from the table.
"Right at the last second! Nice job Benny!", Shedletsky cheered with a laugh.
"Thanks. It wasn't too bad.", Benny said, glancing to him. But as she talked, her thoughts were still on that killer, sure that there was no way they'd be happy about how the round ended.
Huh, it never did get their name, did it?
"Actually Shed, before I forget, who was that killer?"
Additional note that Benny uses any pronouns and I tend to use them situationally depending how I feel writing it and/or how Benny would feel during the moment. Benny would not know 1x's name nor pronouns so 1x is referred with only they as a neutral pronoun.
