âJesus, woman, Iâm twenty-two years old,â he said, gaping at her in disbelief. Rarely did women ever react like that to him, so he was surprised. âCandy?â Jiho laughed, shaking his head at her, impressed. He liked her guts and thought she was a pretty cool woman, so he gave her a more genuine, less flirtatious smile, feeling that he could enjoy her company in the year to come. âDid you just mom-zone me?â he asked jovially. âIâm fine with that if you are.â
Following her into the building and navigating the halls behind her, he sidled up to her again, this time more curious. âSo where are you from? Rarely anyone who graduated from here would actually consider coming back, butâŠâ he trailed off, scanning her face. âThat name and that accent tell me that youâre not Korean. Noelle,â he said, his English heavily accented, âZhou,â his Chinese equally as bad. âCanadian, perhaps?â
Raising her eyebrows, he stared at him as he spoke before he gaped in disbelief because she couldnât help but find him amusing and this was obvious as an amused smile settled on her lips. Â In her opinion, he was too young to be flirting with someone her age but then again, maybe he didnât think there was anything wrong or he thought she was younger. Â âYes, candy. Unless you want cookies? I am sure I can manage to get some as well.â She offered him an innocent smile as she told him this but she doubted that he would want cookies. Â It was when he asked her if she had mom-zoned him that she found herself blinking in confusion and tilting her head to the right, she thought about that. Â âThat is the first time I have heard of that but yes, I guess I did. Why wouldnât I be fine with it?â
If he stopped flirting, then she was fine with anything and glancing back at him, she offered him a small smile. Â âIs that so? I didnât graduate but I did attend Keisung for college. Is it crazy for me to come back? Because I heard that some of the staff were alumni as well.â She could understand why most didnât want to come back especially because of how shitty the school was but she supposed that like her, the other staff had their reasons for coming back. Â âI am not Korean, you are right but no, I am not Canadian. Do I sound like a Canadian? I am from the U.S., California more specifically but I lived in Korea for five years.â She explained as she turned the corner and glancing at him, she decided that she had the right to ask more about him. Â âTell me about yourself, Jiho. What is your major for example?â
ksjungrin
Jungrinâs eyes widened as she was told to watch her language, hoping the woman she had bumped into wouldnât start to lecture her about it. When she apologized, Jungrin let out a relieved huff. âItâs alright,â she replied, smiling at the woman as she collected some of the books Jungrin had dropped. âThanks for the help. I knew I was getting in over my head when I thought I could carry all this back to my dorm without an accident,â she said with a laugh. âI didnât wanna say yes to a plastic bag, because thatâs like, paying money to destroy the environment, you know?â Truthfully, Jungrin caring about the environment was a recent development. It was her âstrong case of the monthâ - her interests changed so quickly that sheâd have another thing to care about soon enough. âI think maybe I shouldâve asked for one anyway, though,â she mumbled, her gaze moving from the books she was still holding herself towards the books the woman had picked up.
âIâm Jungrin. Sophomore, studying political science,â she replied. âYouâre the new nurse, right?â Sheâd heard that they had hired a new school nurse during the course of the summer, but Jungrin hadnât had the courtesy of bumping into her until now. âI hope itâs not too much to ask, but you wouldnât mind helping me carry these the rest of the way, would you? I just know Iâm gonna end up dropping them all down the stairs if I do it by myself.â
As the younger girl told her that it was all right before giving her smile, Noelle immediately relaxed and then began picking up the books that had fallen to the floor. Â She wasnât sure what kind of explanation she expected from the other but when the younger told her that she had refused to get a plastic bag to help the environment, the nurse was glad that she was busy with the books because if she had not been, she would have patted the other on the head. Â Maybe it was because her siblings were much younger than her but she had the habit of babying people that were obviously younger than her. Â âI completely support the reason behind you not wanting a plastic bag but maybe it would have been better if you ask them to keep some of them for you? Just to avoid any damage to the booksâ
If anything, Noelle just expected Jungri to give just her name and the fact that she had told her her grade, as well as her major, had the nurse smiling widely. Â âItâs very nice to meet you, Jungri and yes, I am the new nurse. I guess is public knowledge that there is a new nurse, huh?â It was strange to be referred to as the new nurse because before coming to Keisung, she had the same job for a couple of years but she quickly pushed the thought away. Â âOh, of course not. I wouldnât mind at all, just lead the way.â She told the younger and now with all the books in her hands, she nodded and followed the other once she began her way towards her dorm. Â âHow do you like Keisung?â

Jungrin was on her way back to the dorms, a stack full of books in her hands. The stack was tall enough that she couldnât see where she was going, but somehow she had managed to get back to campus. It wasnât often that Jungrin went book shopping, but her parents had just sent her money for books and whatever else she needed for the next semester, so sheâd thought, why the hell not. Of course, she hadnât ended up buying any books that were relevant to her studies. She figured sheâd just download them illegally online or steal borrow them from the library.
âGod, I knew I shouldâve asked for a bag,â Jungrin mumbled to herself as she wobbled towards the dorms. Just then, the inevitable happened: Jungrin bumped into someone from behind, half of her books falling to the ground. âShit!â she exclaimed, putting down the books she had managed to hold onto so she could gather the ones that had fallen. âI am so sorry, I couldnât see where I was going at all,â she told the person she had bumped into, shooting them an apologetic glance.
Noelle took a deep breath as she once again went over her list to make sure that she had everything for the new year and as far as she could tell she did. Â Now if only the students would be more willing to ask for help but she was hopeful that the number of students seeking help would increase now that the year started. Â Not that she wanted them to get injured or in need of medical help but if they did, then she wanted them to seek her out. Â Maybe she was a little too eager to help since she made a couple of flyers that she had already put up on the bulletin boards around campus but at least she showed that she was not all talk. Â Placing the clipboard down, she decided that she needed some fresh air and locking the storage door, she left the infirmaryâs main entrance closed but not locked.
Just walking around campus made her feel like she was still a student but as soon as memories of that time came to mind, she pushed them away. Â Of course, she didnât have to do that it seemed because a moment later someone bumped into her back and then the sounds of something falling to the floor was heard but not before she jumped away. Â âLanguage.â She found herself saying as if she was talking to her siblings and it was her turn to look apologetic. Â âSorry, itâs a habit I developed because of my siblings but let me help you.â She bent down to get some of the books and then glancing at the younger girl, she offered her a friendly smile. Â âI am Noelle, the school nurse and you are?â

Hyejin blushed as she realized that she hadnât given the school nurse her name. She cleared her throat, embarrassed. âLee Hyejin. My name is Lee Hyejin. Iâm sorry I didnât tell you sooner.â She bit her lip and looked down. Maybe being in pain had made Hyejinâs emotions unstable as well. Usually she was a lot calmer and composed than this. She played with her hands as the nurse examined her leg. âI can move it, so Iâm certain that I havenât broken anything.â Hyejin informed the nurse. Sitting down definitely helped the pain. Walking all the way here had made the pain feel worse, and now that she was resting the pain was slowly subsiding, but now she could tell where it hurt the most. âI think itâs my calf. Or shin. That area hurts the most.â Hyejin said, pointing to her leg.Â
Hyejin looked up at the nurse, surprised. âUm.. sure. That would be helpful. I really appreciate that.â She mumbled, blushing again. âIâll be more careful next time,â Hyejin promised, âSo this doesnât happen again and I donât bother you.â Hyejin would rather die from her injuries than have a security guard pick her up, but she wasnât about to tell the school nurse that. Imagining her being helped by a security guard, in front of the other members of the club made Hyejinâs cheeks burn brighter. She didnât want to appear weak to her other club members. But now her worries turned to her leg. How long would she be out with an injury like this? Hopefully only a few days. Hyejin didnât like sitting around doing nothing. She would get restless and not be able to concentrate.Â
Noelle couldnât help but smile fondly as she noticed the younger blushing because she was cute like a button and shaking her head, she spoke. Â âItâs fine, I am sure that dealing with the pain was too distracting and itâs very nice to meet you, Hyejin. Iâm Noelle, I havenât even had time to introduce myself either.â She laughed quietly when she realized that she had forgotten to tell the younger her name and she found herself giving Hyejin a thankful smile when she told her where it hurt. Â With a nod, the school nurse signaled her to wait a moment and then went to get an ice pack before coming back to give it to the younger girl. Â âPlace this where it hurts the most. Is the pain bad enough that you want me to give you something for it or are you okay without it?â
âRemind me before you leave to give you my number, all right?â It wasnât like she would forget on purpose but it was safer to ask her to remind her of it than to forget in the end. Â A frown appeared on her lips when Hyejin said that she didnât want to bother her again because this way her job so she wasnât really bothering her. Â âThatâs what I am here for so please bother me as much as you want, all right?â She offered her an encouraging smile as she told her this and then bringing a chair closer, she sat by the bed the younger was using. Â âYou can also come and take a rest if you want. Itâs usually this empty because not a lot of students like to ask for help so I get bored. What clique are you in? Um... I hope you donât mind me asking.â

After the coffee shop had been trashed, Jiho seemed to be in a perpetually sour mood. He was so attached to the cafĂ© that he would walk over every day at the time his shift was meant to start even though the place was closed for repairs, patting the walls of the empty building and saying âitâll be alright,â to no one in particular while skulking around the place for clues as to whoâd done it. He had just been making his way back to the dorms, deep in thought about what he should do now that he didnât have work for the next few weeks, when a he heard a womanâs voice behind him.Â
He looked around and realized she was talking to him, blinking a few times before giving his usual disarming smile and taking both of the boxes from her. Â âAnything for the lady,â he winked, going full cheese. âJust lead the way,â he said, following her with the boxes. He noticed she looked a little nervous, so he tried to start some conversation, not wanting to make her feel awkward in the silence. âIâm Jiho, and you are? I donât think Iâve seen you around before, because I wouldnât forget such a pretty face.â
Noelle didnât like to ask for help because she could find a way to do almost everything by herself and she had learned a long time ago to rely on herself. Â It was easier that way and she also didnât have to owe anyone anything which was always a plus. Â Of course for this problem, she was too tired and in a hurry to figure out how to do it alone so she was forced to ask for help to the nearest student. Â At the sight of the smile, she offered the younger a small smile but the moment the guy grabbed both boxes, the school nurseâs smile vanished as she looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. Â Not only that but his words and the wink had her blinking because if there was anything she expected was nothing like that.
She opened her mouth to protest but decided to just lead the way as he said because that was easier than speaking right now. Â Assuming that they would not speak, she jumped a little when the student spoke and then glancing back, she nodded as he introduced himself but at his cheesy words, she found herself laughing quietly. Â âYou are cute, thank you for helping me.â Halting, she reached for up and patted his head with a smile that she only gave to kids. Â âAs a reward, Iâll give you some candy and you can rest in the infirmary if you need to.â It was as she finished speaking that she turned around and continued on her way into the building where the infirmary was. Â âIâm nurse Zhou but you can call me Noelle as long as you donât flirt with me.â

Hyejin bit her lip, obviously she had overestimated her strength. But no one bothered to practice with her. No one offered. So Hyejin was always off on her own, practicing with a sandbag. Usually. This time the sand bag was being used by someone else, and she was left with a wooden dummy. She had used the strength she would have used if she was using the sandbag. That was her first mistake. Then, she landed the kick wrong.
Hyejin sighed, looking up at the nurse, âTo be honest, it hurts everywhere. From my ankle to my knee, mostly.â Hyejin pointed to the areas that hurt the most. âHonestly, I know walking here myself was a bad idea and I shouldnât have walked at all, but I didnât know what else to do.â Hyejin admitted, looking down at the bed she was sitting in. She avoided eye contact with the nurse. She knew she probably looked like a fool, a loser. No one had offered her help. She had no friends to be there when she needed them most. She was a loner, and it made Hyejin feel ashamed to admit that out loud.
Hyejin didnât know how the nurse would react, or even if she cared. She didnât plan on telling a sob story, but something connected with the other female and Hyejin felt that she didnât want to worry. She didnât know why, but she felt like she could at least trust the nurse. After her brotherâs passing, Hyejin refused to talk, losing most of her friends. They werenât true friends anyway. Or at least thatâs what Hyejin convinced herself. This was how she was now, and if no one liked her for the way she was, then she didnât need them.
The school nurse nodded when the younger told her where it hurt but she still examined her leg as she compared it to the leg that was not injured. Â The only thing she wanted to do was to find out if the girl broke something and once she was sure that she hadnât, then she could treat her with an ice pack to help with the swelling. Â Of course, when the girl spoke again, Noelle couldnât help but focus her attention on her and her heart went out to the girl. Â âWhat matters is that you are here and now we can figure out if you have to go to the hospital or no.â She offered Hyejin a smile and it was as she spoke that she realized that the younger had not given her her name which would be fine if she didnât have to submit a report about this.
âIâll give you my number in case something like this happens again and I can get one of the security guys to help you, would that be okay with you?â As much as she wanted the other to tell her yes, she couldnât force her and maybe it was reckless for her to give a student her number but she didnât want a repeat of this. Â âLook, if you donât want me to tell me your name is fine but I kind of have to write a report about this. I mean, you can give me a name of another student but I do need a name.â She hoped that she didnât sound pushy but then again, she was trying to do her job.
ksminho
Minho was lost in his thoughts, reflecting on the chapter heâd read in his textbook before heâd motivated himself to leave the dorm. Heâd long since accepted that he was a bit of a loser for reading his texts even when classes werenât in session. It was something he didnât mind, especially when he loved his major as much as he did. Today had been Frank Lloyd Wright and he was wandering campus now, just thinking about how much different life would be if he were him. He shook his head, letting go of the thoughts. One day, he would be and it wouldnât be a question anymore.
Suddenly, he heard someone talking to him. Or at least, he thought they were talking to him. Were they? He turned his head, eyebrows raised curiously. As he took in the woman in front of him, he couldnât help but wonder who she was and how she managed to come across as a mess almost instantly. âYeah, where are we going with them?â he asked as he picked one of the boxes up. She had reminded him of a puppy asking someone to play, there was no way he could have said no.
Even though she wanted to go against the clear instructions her superior gave her, she couldnât risk her job by doing that but as she tried to find someone to help her, she was seriously considering if it would have been better to just do what she wanted. Â Thankfully, she spotted a student and inwardly, she relaxed a little even though she didnât know if he would be willing to help. Â After all, classes were over and yes, there were some students in Keisung but finding them would be the tricky thing. Â She thanked her lucky stars and then tried to get his attention before asking her question.
It was obvious that he didnât expect her to be calling him but without any hesitation, or so it seemed, he agreed to help her. Â âThank you, really, thank you.â The words left her lips before she could stop them but it was obvious that she meant them by the way she said them. Â Grabbing the other box, she signaled him with her head to follow her and it was as she had given a couple of steps that she realized that she had not answered his question. Â âWe are taking them to the infirmary. Iâm Noelle, the new school nurse.â She glanced back as she spoke and offered the student a wide smile before looking ahead as she entered the building.
ksxdara
ânot really, i just like messing with you.â the pink haired girl pulled herself into a sitting position, looking around for her missing shirt as if she was alone and not in the presence of someone who could get her in a lot of trouble for public fornication. âi actually came here to take a nap but then he showed up and i suddenly felt⊠energized,â the girl shrugged and got out of the bed, exclaiming a little âoh, there it is.â when her eyes landed on her shirt on top on the nurseâs desk. casually walking towards it, she picked it up and put it on while the other spoke.
âyeah, yeah..â her answer came muffled as she picked up her jeans that laid on the floor and put them on, glancing up at the angry nurse, she realized her expression. âit wonât happen happen again nono, donât worry. do you wanna do pinky promise or something?â she grinned. a grin that quickly turned into a scoff to the elderâs question. âyes, mom.â a sarcastic chuckle left her lips. âi have the bar.â
Raising her eyebrows, the school nurse stared at the girl as the forced smile remained on her lips and it was as she looked at the girl that she realized that she was half naked. Â A sigh left her lips and the only thing she wanted was to find this girlâs parents and have a serious talk about her. Â She guessed it was exciting to make out and even have sex in a place where people could come in any minute but this was not what she signed up for when she accepted the job. Â âEnergized? Wow, okay. But not energized enough to find somewhere else to do this, right? What? You two donât like using the dorms?â
A laugh left her lips when the other mentioned if she wanted a pinky promise and then rolling her eyes, she shook her head. Â âNope, if you are going to do it again, you are going to do it either way so just know that there will be consequences to your actions.â She was definitely not going to give her another chance after this and if the younger didnât get this then it was on her. Â It was as Dara called her mom that with a smug smile, Noelle began making her way towards her. Â âAw, is that so? Thatâs good, sweetie. Do you want a lollipop as your prize for taking care of yourself or just a pat on the head?â Using that tone adults used when talking to babies, she reached out to pinch the otherâs cheek because if she was going to be sarcastic and insolent, then Noelle could annoy the heck out of her to teach her a lesson.

Noelle did not sign up for this when she applied for the job but it seemed that since she was the newbie, she was left with doing inventory. Â If that was all she had to do, then she would have been fine but then she was instructed to figure out where to buy the supplies at the cheapest price before going to pick them up because it was better to do that than to pay for delivery. Â She even had to pay for the bus fee but she should have known that this crappy school was just as crappy as when she was a student. Â Once she had everything in her list and two boxes full of supplies, she decided to get back to Keisung by taxi because there was no way she could carry both boxes at the same time.
Once she arrived at Keisung, it became apparent that she would need help carrying the boxes inside and even though the last thing she wanted to do was to ask for help, she knew that if she didnât do it, someone might take the other box. Â âHey, do you have some minutes to spare? I need to take these two boxes inside, could you help me carry one?â It was because she was slightly nervous that she spoke clumsily and biting her lower lip when she finished speaking, she hoped that they understood her because she didnât want to repeat herself.
ksxdara
dara wasnât known for being the most considerable. if she wanted something, sheâd get it no matter how much she made others uncomfortable or how much trouble she got into. thatâs what led her to being caught in noelleâs infirmary by the nurse in the middle of a heated make out session.Â
âoh, hi there, didnât see you come in.â she smiled, completely ignoring the otherâs glare. her lips still close to the boys. though she probably should be embarrassed or at least surprised for being caught, she rebel maintained her cool as she looked at the rebel boy. âmove it, sausage.â she waved as the male made his way out of the nurse office, visibly embarrassed. âbut i was resting, and he had decided to rest on top of me.â she smirked before putting on a fake innocent expression. âwe were just cuddling.â
At the youngerâs greeting, Noelle just stared at her and even though she returned the smile, it was obvious that it was a forced smile. Â She watched the exchange between Dara and the boy with little interest and the apology that she was hoping the other would give her never came. Â In the nurseâs opinion, it would have been better if the rebel admitted what she was doing because it was obvious that Noelle had seen what was happening. Â âQuestion: do I look dumb enough to believe that or why are you giving me that crappy excuse?â
With a raised eyebrow and a skeptical expression, the nurse crossed her arms because as much as Noelle wanted to provide a safe place for the students, she was not willing to let students like Dara turn the infirmary into a motel or whatever the rebel thought this place was. Â âIf you decide to cuddle with someone like that again, I am banning you from here. Am I clear?â The only answer she was going to accept was a yes and if the other was not okay with her terms, then she could leave. âYou use protection when it escalates to more than cuddling, right?â

kshyejin:
Hyejin didnât fight the help that she obviously needed. She leaned on the nurse and groaned, her leg was killing her. Did she break a bone? She wasnât so sure. Sighing, Hyejin nodded âIâm alone. I came by myself.â she said quietly. She didnât really know why it mattered. She had gotten here perfectly fine on her own, and sheâd be damned if she owed anyone any favors for helping her get here. âItâs fine. I didnât ask for help from anyone. I donât have many people who would really worry about me anyways.â Hyejin bit her lip, she hadnât meant to say the last part out loud. She didnât want the nurse to pity her or anything. It wasnât like she was that lonely or anything. She wasnât really complaining about it. It was just a fact.
Hyejin stepped down on her bad leg and hissed, âMy left leg is killing me. I canât tell which part of it is injured. All of it hurts.â She informed the nurse, a headache had begun to form as well. This whole ordeal was unfortunate and annoying. She just hoped that she wouldnât need a cast. A cast would mean that she would gain more attention. People would look at her and notice her more if she had a cast. She thought about just toughing it out. Walk it off. Anything to avoid the attention. âI landed a kick wrong.â she explained. It wasnât like she really needed to explain though, so she didnât know why she kept talking. Usually Hyejin kept her mouth shut. Why couldnât she stop herself from talking this time?
A frowned appeared on the nurseâs face when the girl confirmed that she came by herself but when the other spoke again as she explained that she didnât have many people who would really worry about her, a look of understanding appeared on Noelleâs face. Â She wasnât sure if the girl didnât want to have friends or it was hard for her to make friends but as someone who came to Korea not knowing anyone, the former artist could not help but remember her few years as a trainee. Â Instead of replying, she hummed to let the other know that she heard her because even though the girl had not asked anyone to help her, in the nurseâs eyes, someone should have offered her help but it didnât sound like anyone had done that so she was definitely going to figure out who was with her when she injured herself.
With a nod, the nurse listened as she informed her what was wrong and if she was stronger, she would have carried the girl to the bed. Â She knew that for the girl, it felt like ages before they reached one of the beds and helping her settle on it, Noelle couldnât help but sigh in relief when the girl was finally off her feet. Â âWhatâs your name?â She asked as she pulled up any clothing that was covering below the knee. Â âIs this the first time you have injured your leg? Tell me where it hurts, all right?â Being as careful as she could, she began examining the girlâs leg and hoped that it wouldnât bad enough that she had to send her the hospital.
