ksxhoetaek:
“you know that sounds like a pretty good idea,” hoetaek replies with a laugh. “though you could probably like, start a coffee reviewing blog, or a youtube channel or something like that,” they add as an afterthought. really, that actually sounds like a pretty good idea, and part of hoetaek wonders if they actually could do something like that. though realistically, this, like most of their semi-decent ideas, probably wont come to fruition.
as the girl talks a wide smile spreads over hoetaek’s face. they’re amused, but mostly amazed that she so eagerly wants to get to know them. not a lot of people tend to show this much interest in hoetaek, at least not the positive kind, and it’s exciting to have someone actually want to ask questions about them, even if it’s just about their coffee drinking habits. “yeah I have time, I don’t have anywhere to be,” they answer with a quick nod. they’re done with class for the day and their plan had been to just go smoke under the bleachers, but they’re pretty sure they can delay that two hours to potentially make a new friend.
the girl’s name gets called—jungrin—and hoetaek makes a mental effort to make sure they remember it, repeating it a number of times in their mind as she collects her coffee. they wait until she has her coffee before leading them over to a table—one with plush arm chairs so they can be as comfortable as possible for their impending conversation—listening as she answers their question. “ahh, well I’m glad I could be of service,” they say with a chuckle, taking a seat and crossing one leg over the other. they wait until jungrin is sitting too before lifting their coffee up in a cheers motion. “well, I hope it’s worth it.” they take a sip, slowly just incase it’s still very hot, before letting out a satisfied hum at the taste. “yep, mhm, definitely worth it.”
“huh.” she rested her hand on her chin, considering the idea. “you know, i do have like 700 000 instagram followers, and i’d like to believe at least a fourth of those would support me if i became a youtuber who only talked about coffee. maybe this idea isn’t half bad.” she laughed, then shook her head. “okay, no, don’t encourage me, because i’ll just end up seriously abandoning college over this. my family would just love that.”
“okay great!” she exclaims, making no attempt to hide her excitement like she usually did. people usually found her a bit intense in the beginning, hence why she felt the reason to hide at least parts of her excitement. but she had a feeling that hoetaek wouldn’t mind - at least it didn’t seem like they did this far, as they had seemed very willing to sit down with her until her next class.
jungrin follows as her newest acquaintance leads them towards a table. (which happened to be one of her favorite tables. she knew this hopefully-future-friendship was meant to be.) as the two of them sit down, jungrin lifts her coffee to meet theirs, giggling a bit at the gesture. they take a sip together, and jungrin hums pleasantly at the taste. “this is incredible,” she says, taking yet another sip before putting her cup down on the table. “okay, so, i have questions,” she said, deciding to get down to business right away. “how many menu items have you tried so far? what’s your favorite? anything you didn’t like? also, not coffee related, but explain.” with both her hands, she gestured towards hoetaek. “i’m not trying to offend you, i’m just genuinely very curious. what, uh, do you define yourself as, exactly?” she finished her rambling of questions, hoping she wouldn’t scare them away with the last one. hoetaek obviously stood out, and jungrin was simply hoping to gain a better understanding of who they were.
