One month ago at this time I was in my hospital recovery room breathing in the smell of the new baby cuddled on my chest, breathing through the pain of every move I made thanks to the delivery turned surgery that brought her into the world. Today, at this moment, she's asleep in my arms making the sweetest coos (plus loudest farts) and holding her left ear in her hand. I'm on the couch still in my pajamas, taunted by the coffee sitting on the table in front of me just out of my reach. I'm doing this. Libby is everything. Her health and happiness is 90% of what crosses my mind these days. The other 2% is chocolate and about 8% is What Am I Doing With My Life. I'm struggling with knowing what's right. What it means to be a parent. What I'm supposed to sacrifice and what I'm supposed to fight for until my face turns blue. I don't know where these next months/years will take us. All I know is that Libby wakes up every three to four hours to eat. She likes her head being rubbed when she's falling asleep. She loves bath time, being in her carseat, and staring at the light through the curtains first thing in the morning. For today, even if it's just these next few hours, that's all that really matters. #vscocam #vsco #newmom #motherhood #love #newborn

8.25 // The hardest part about being a mom so far is trying to cope with the amount of love I have for her. I cry at least once a day because I'm simply feeling too much and I can't sort those feelings into compartments like I normally do. I see myself in her - her nose, her eyes, the way she holds onto her tiny ears for comfort just like I did- and that terrifies me. I never want her to experience some of the things I've gone through. I want her to be strong. To be witty and unapologetic for who she is. To love herself in all the ways I struggled with. Our most used phrase around the house these days is "I can't believe she's real." This little human that was literally part of me less than a month ago has a power over me that I never expected.
