Here's a lil Elias fluff to celebrate
Elias’ trip to the States was scheduled before you started dating. It was an unfortunate coincidence your birthday also fell in that week apart. He had been apologetic, giving you extra attention and more lingering kisses in the days leading up to his trip.
He even left you a gift box to open on the morning of your birthday. Now that it came, you hesitated. You wanted him there, to feel the intensity of his gaze while he watched you open it. The tension as he wondered if you liked his choice, your nervousness as you unraveled the mystery and tried to suppress your giddiness.
You felt most of that, but you were alone. Longing for his gentle laughter and soothing words. For that tender blue gaze that let you know, even if the man himself was forever a mystery, his feelings for you were anything but.
You looked at your phone, wanting to try calling him again. He had missed the last one. You kept track of the time difference. It was late at night for him, late morning for you. Your heart sunk when you thought of him being too busy and too distracted to even reach out. It made you miss him more.
The gift would either alleviate the ache of that separation or it would worsen it. You decided not to wait the two days for his return and untied the ribbon wrapped around the pink box.
Inside was an assortment of little treasures and sweets that made you gasp. You pulled different items out one by one, stacking the chocolates to one side, the plushie beside it, and a box with a white gold bracelet inside. Nestled in the corner was a rolled up paper tied with a ribbon. You unrolled it and recognized his elegant handwriting.
You were barely a few words in when your eyes misted. Insistent, refusing to be blinked away so you could read his sweet words. You wanted to know them, for them to soothe the longing for him, but more certain it would probably have the opposite effect. If nothing else, knew you were loved even when you were a world apart, especially on the first day you hadn’t heard from him at all.
You sighed and put the letter down, barely a line in. A knock came at your door, forcing you to abandon your gift and compose yourself. You opened the door to a bouquet of flowers, held by your boyfriend who was supposed to be time zones away.
Several long seconds passed, him smiling, your mouth hanging open in shock. Your questions died on your tongue. They could wait until after you tackled him, throwing your arms around his neck and making him stumble back a step, laughing at your excitement.
“Elias! You were supposed to be gone another two days!”
“I was, but I couldn’t miss today.” He kissed you deeply, making up for lost time, uncaring that you were still on your doorstep. His hand pressed into the back of your neck, angling to deepen your kiss even further, part of him intent on never letting go.
“But what about your mother?”
“She had a class reunion out of state, so she’s fine. May I come in?”
You ushered him in, only realizing then that he still had his suitcase with him. He must have come straight from the airport. You smiled to yourself, shy about expressing how fluttery your heart felt at the surprise.
“Why did you tell me? I wanted to pick you up from the airport.”
“And then you’d have had to deal with that wait. When you’re so close to seeing your better half that time slows down to a crawl. I wanted to spare you from that.” His eyes crinkled at the corners as he looked at you like you were his everything.
“Are you saying you’re my better half?”
“You’re by far the better half of us.” He wrapped his arms around your waist again and lifted you to sit on your dining table for more reunion kisses.
“Oh,” he pulled back, a thought returning to him. “Did you open your gift?”
“That’s what I was just doing!” You moved as if to hop down and retrieve the presents he left before his trip, but he refused to let you slip away from him.
“The rest can wait. I brought even more for you from the States.” Elias pressed his forehead to yours, placing light kisses along your cheek and jaw to evade your questions about what exactly he brought back.
The rest of your morning was spent catching up as you made crepes together. Your eyes kept meeting, both of you delighted at his early return.
