"This Is Where We Try to Survive"

Under the burning East African sun, this is where we, queer refugees, call home. Rows of tents stand in the dust thin fabric between us and the harsh heat by day, the cold by night. The ground is dry and cracked, and when the rains come, the mud swallows what little comfort we have.

For us, safety has always been a moving target. We fled our home countries because of who we are queer, different, human. We thought crossing borders would bring us peace, but instead, we found ourselves here, in a camp where survival is a daily fight.

Food is never enough. Water is a luxury we cannot waste. Electricity is a dream. Shelter is fragile. Every day, we wake up hungry, thirsty, and uncertain if tomorrow will be worse. For those of us living with HIV, medicine runs out too quickly, and the fear of getting sick is always near.

We are 12 souls mothers, children, elders, survivors bound together not just by our struggles, but by love and the belief that we deserve to live with dignity. But dignity is hard to hold onto when the world forgets you exist.

Look at this picture this is not just a refugee camp. It’s the edge of hope. And yet, we still dream. We dream of a safe house where we can sleep without fear, of meals that fill our stomachs, of water clean enough to drink without worry, of a life where our existence is not a crime.

🌍 Urgent Cry for Help – LGBTQIA+ Lives in Danger 🆘

Hello world,

My name is Truth Collins. I am a transgender woman and LGBTQIA+ activist currently living in Juba, South Sudan with my team of fellow LGBTQIA+ refugees.

Lately, I have been receiving terrifying messages and death threats on TikTok. People are trying to find out where I am so they can kill me just because of who I am. That’s why I can’t show my face on camera anymore. I am deeply scared for my life and the lives of those with me.

We are 11 people — gay men, transgender women, lesbian mothers, and people living with HIV/AIDS — all forced to flee from Uganda and Kenya for our safety. But even here, we are not safe. We have no stable shelter, food, clean water, or access to medical care.

1. Stop using the word Transphobe so heavily, it demeans it.

2. I don't find dogs sexually attractive, it doesn't make me dog-phobic.

3. Being lumped together in the same group because of traits as defined by others outside that trait group, it's not right. It's bigotry at it's finest.

4. Not everyone is going to find everyone else attractive.

5. You don't need everyone else to validate your existence.

6. No-one is required to accept anyone elses ideas.
