I love the amount of symbolism in the different backgrounds to the stages - one for every brother. So I'm digging out my occult knowledge and also asking google to find...
Lucifer (blue/pride) - loaded with stars and suns for our Morning Star himself, the back circle surrounded with a peacock pattern, the bird of pride/vanity, and some stylised pale-coloured wings... much like Lucifer once had. Pink stars suggest a lustful boy 😇
Mammon (yellow/greed) - shining diamonds sit separated by urdy crosses which can represent suffering and battlements, a demon hiding his hurt behind a blustery facade. Six-point stars abound representing the Star of David (Mammon meant "money" in old Hebrew) or the Seal of Solomon (👀) among many other meanings, and of course kitties, the cat often being associated with greed (fatcats), good fortune (Maneki-neko), and in Italy there is even the mythical Il Gatto Mammone (the Mammon Cat) who must not be shunned 🙀
Leviathan (orange/envy) - our sea-loving otaku has splashing waves, diving whale tails, and droplets of water running down the back wall, drops caught, suspended, as glittering jewels which bear more than a passing resemblance to the light of the dangerous anglerfish that lures unsuspecting prey... The entwined serpents relate to the old Leviathan the sea serpent, and the etymology of Leviathan as "twisted, coiled". Unlike most symbolic entwined snakes (the symbol of envy), Levi's meet in the middle - he is not divided. Blue lights, perhaps from water or a touch of pride, and some yellow for greed 🐳
Satan (green/wrath) - an eight-point star sits locked behind two unicorn horns, the symbol of beginnings and renewal trapped by the symbol of solitude and a ferocity that only a pure maiden can tame... His wolf howls at the crescent moon and star, itself symbolic of power, but the wolf perhaps thwarted by the moon never reaching fullness. The background is one of repetition, copies of copies, and even his 12 point star has more arms than anyone else's 🦄
Asmodeus (pink/lust) - he fucks like a rabbit 💟
Beelzebub (red/gluttony) - Beel keeps it simple with his symbolic animal, the fly, and a whole lot of cutlery, fly wings, and lamps that attract flies. Some flashes of yellow point to a little greed🍴
Belphegor (purple/sloth) - NEVER POKE A SLEEPING BEAR! Unlike his brothers, here the stars seem to indicate only themselves, night time, sleepy time. The ten-pointed star can represent balance, but this is a difficult state to maintain. Beneath the fluffy curves of the background lay barbed points - comfort/love that can all too easily turn to pain. The blue light could be a trick of the light, or a smidgen of pride 🐻
