“Maya?” he heard a voice of somebody familiar, a woman he hadn’t encountered in a long time. “Maya, when did you get back? Uh, I’m not doing anything, don’t worry about what you heard.”

   “Not too long ago, but that’s besides the point. Are people harassing you? What’s all this potato business about?”

It’s been a month, but if you haven’t played AA6 yet and need a reason to, here’s one: Badass Mystic Maya. I’m so proud of her!!

  “Warrior of what? Neo olde? New old, that doesn’t make sense.” He stated, still making zero sense to what on earth she was talking about. To him, this whole TV show and the plot was complete gibberish. He needed something he could comprehend.

He was not gonna extract much more out of her once she began to shush him, Maya kept her eyes glued to the television. Bigby just sat beside her on the floor, luckily not too much dirt was on the ground so at least there were no concerns for spoiling his trousers.

Maya started reciting the famous quotes; he couldn’t help but let out a small groan and covered his face with his hand from discomfiture. Not for him, but for her sake. The sound of the commercial announcement made him almost sigh with relief. Thank god that monstrosity was over for now, for about 15 minutes or so. Plenty of time to get the information he so desperately hungered for.

“Alright, I’ll ask you what I inquired about before, but you were not listening. How does this spiritual medium ritual work? It sounds pretty dark.”

Now that the commercials were rolling in (something about cars and dogs and spills), he had her full attention. Answers? Oh, he'd get them alright. Maya kicked off her sandals and turned to face Bigby, as she brought her legs up, managing to situate herself comfortably in the big chair.

"Well, you've asked the right person!"

"I already gave you a basic definition of what spirit mediums do, but there's a bunch of different ways to go about it. That's where the Kurain Channeling Technique comes in, practiced by the members of the Fey clan for ages! Which, by the way, I'm going to be the master of. No big deal."

"Aaaanyway, when a Fey performs the Kurain Channeling technique, her body transforms into a likeness of the person she channels, from voice to some physical appearances. But nothing dramatic! After that, the channeled spirit takes control of the body, the medium loses consciousness and is completely unaware of anything the spirit does during the entire channeling. The spirit leaves eventually, the medium wakes up and there you have it!"

The young medium gave a fairly confident smile after spitting out all that information, rocking side to side a bit as she wondered just what he thought about it. He got his answer, after all! She gave a quick glance to the television to make sure the commercials hadn't ended . . . Nope, still going. 

"Any questions?"

On a dime, the young spirit medium rushed passed him, planting her small body on the old worn couch, he was certain he could see her slightly bobbing up and down from the excitement. Bigby just sighed, massaging his temples gently.

Kids and their damned TV shows.

“Good, then we have ourselves a deal,” he confirmed, he saw how she was confused on the functionality of the television. He bent over at the TV; fingers gripped around the dial, no doubt Maya would be disappointed that there was only a limited number of channels. He seemed to hit the right one by the sound of Maya’s squeal over the enjoyment of visualizing her show.

“How long does this thing last?” He stood back up and straightened his back; he had nowhere to sit anymore now that Maya had taken it as her throne, so he remained standing, watching the characters interact with each other on this show, what on earth was this? It just seemed ridiculous, the non realistic moves, the music, everything about this show screamed stupidity to him.

“What the hell is this crap? Is this what the kids these days watch?”

"This is the Steel Samurai: Warrior of Neo Olde Tokyo, not crap, and hold your questions until commercial time like we agreed!"

With a 'sheesh, what's with this guy' muttered under her breath, Maya turned her attention back to her show (which was not crap, by the way, far from it), and her smile soon returned just as the titular hero delivered a witty retort to his enemy. Ha! Take that, Evil Magistrate!

How did this guy not know about The Steel Samurai? Maybe it was before his time, but he looked older, and she definitely knew folks who looked his age that were into the show as much as she was . . . Maybe he lived under a rock. 

Well, that could be fixed. 

Maya happily sat in the oversized couch, quoting lines, cheering excitedly, kicking her feet as she watched. As much as she loved the newer adaptions and spin offs, the original held a special place in her heart, and she'd never dare to miss it on the air. 

Aaaaaand . . . 'We'll be right back after these messages!' . . .  Commercial.

  "Okay, you've got about five minutes, give or take. You lose a question since you asked stuff during the show and I so graciously answered one. Fire away!"

Bigby could see that Maya was still pretty eager to watch her favourite show, he simply rolled his eyes. There was little point in trying to fight with her, she wasn’t gonna stop, and he had no intention of bringing harm to a lady. “And how do you do that exactly? That sounds like pretty dark.”

He knew the potential of magic, maybe this ‘magic’ could be used for much more sinister reasons. “No doubt this activity stirs trouble from time to time.” As he kept his gaze on her, something told him that she was not even paying full attention to him, maybe she’d respond better once the young medium had viewed ‘The Steel Samurai’.

“You know what, I’ll let you watch this show —whatever you call it. You will then have to answer all of my questions once it ends.”

Sure, he was talking, but Maya couldn't hear a thing. She was much more transfixed on trying to catch glimpses of this big guy's television, which looked pretty old and beat up, and she started to try and think of how she'd get it to work. Which knob controlled the channels . . .?

Right, she should probably be listening. 

Thankfully, Maya tuned back in just in time to hear him say that she could watch her show, and boy did her eyes light up with delight. He didn't even finish his sentence before she scurried her way past him and practically made a bee-line to the tv. 

"I'll do you one even better, big guy! I'll answer questions at the commercials, too!"

"The show's got to be within the first ten minutes by now, including the opening scene, so another twenty or so and you'll have my full, undivided attention!"

And with that, she plopped herself down and started watching.

Bigby made a mental note on how brisk this girl had been to answer his question. Not in a long time had he seen someone so enthusiastic to view a television show. Then again he scarcely used that hunk of junk. He hungered for more answers, and he was damn well settled on getting them. Bigby used his rather muscular frame to stand in her way with crossed arms to block her gaining any access to his television.

“I’m still not done with you just yet. What do you mean exactly by a spirit medium? What do you do?”

Maya craned her neck, first to the left and then to the right, to try and get a look around the large mass of grump standing between her and sweet Steel Samurai action. The commercials had to be over by now, and the show would be starting up again . . .  

"When I say spirit medium, I mean . . . spirit medium! We channel the dead so they can talk with the living. Pretty straightforward."

"I'm from the Fey clan, so there's a special way we do our channeling that's unique to us."
