ep. 15 parallels

goodness gracious i have a lot to say about today’s episode but i really wanted to focus on a huge important parallel.

in ep.3-4 woong constantly said the words you’re the one who ruins/messes me up. he first blurts out those words when he is showing off his artwork for first time to yeonsoo. then when she finds the art she messed up, he says the words “내 인생도 망쳤지 엉망으로” (translation: You screwed up my life). then in ep. 4, when woong finds out he has to do the live drawing show with nu-ah, he says the word “날 망치는 건 늘 너야” (It’s always you, who screws me over) to yeonsoo. 

[Note: These translations are mine, I don’t read the Netflix translations loool]

the reason this word is important is because in the last scene in ep. 15, she says “또 나 때문에 망쳐버린 줄 알고..” or “I thought I screwed everything up again”. i think this is extremely important because even though they have been happily dating, yeonsoo must have had this constant fear of “screwing” woong over again. which is obviously why she had been in a way still tiptoeing around him until today’s episode. she must’ve believed that she was too much of a burden for him up until this point. 

back to the last scene, after yeonsoo says those words, woong replies with “넌 아무 것도 망치지 않아. 연수야” or “You don’t screw anything up, Yeonsoo-yah”. if you have seen my previous posts about formal talking with the “-yah” you would understand, you have to be extremely close to add “-yah” at the end of a person’s name, when you’re calling them. to me this is crucial because it’s woong letting her know he’s letting his guard down, which eventually leads to her letting her guard down. him saying those words, reassuring her and making sure she understands that he is going to be there for her as her rock was sooo important for her to hear and feel.
