one of the reasons why "what if people went on a road trip and it was weird" is one of the oldest story types is that a lot of sense of personhood has been, historically, tied to place. the weird road trip says "what if we went somewhere else, where no one knows us, and tried out being a different person".

Odysseus, the famous liar, goes on a weird road trip & over the course of it becomes several different people, and then comes home & is all those people as well as himself, wearing the echoes of those other people

One of the many things that I loved about the recent episode (c3ep52) is how Orym who is probably the most normal of the bunch, is remembered and spoken so softly about. Imogen, once they woke up, immediately noticed the missing sound and visual of Orym doing his morning exercise (something that most of them affectionately joke about that Orym makes them feel shit for). When Deanna asked “who’s orym” Chetney immediately goes “Orym of the air ashari. He’s a friend, halfling, capable fighter…” and then trails off, Fearne saying just as softly “very capable fighter”  And then when Deanna wants to try and send to Orym, Chetney produces a small mirror image of him, putting the most care to make sure Deanna can take all the details, and then says “And he has a vine that grows and comes up to his ear.” And i don’t think that is in the character art, but I absolutely love that it was said, cause it just speaks how Chetney cares to the point that he pays attention to small things like this. And it just speaks how in general these people care about each other. Because it’s been one night, and the next day they were already feeling the gaps of the missing instruments in their little song. The missing puzzle pieces.  i am both feeling my heart be warmed and shattered.

Look, this post has been wildly more popular than I thought it deserved, apparently at least in part because "don't burden others; be independent" is far more ingrained in people than I realized. So here's the thing: society works when people help each other. Helping others gives people a chance to know each other, and gives them an investment in the people they help. Helping creates bonds. People enjoy helping, and you are doing a good by letting them help you if they so wish.

Offer help; accept help. You will be a part of creating a helping culture. Which, incidentally, weakens capitalism and the fractionation between people that benefits those who would use us.

steve from blues clues believing that children deserved someone better than him vs children's overwhelming love for kindness

steve burns (who played steve on blues clues) developed severe imposter syndrome over his role on the show. he believed that there was a difference between him (steve burns) and who he played on the show. he felt as if he was lying and incredibly under qualified for the job he had; he was quite literally just an actor. he began to believe that someone as important as steve, who was genuinely seen as a friend by millions of children, should have been played by a child development specialist or a teacher.

but at the end of the day, none of that mattered or has mattered to the kids who watched blues clues. who they saw was a character that was kind, loving, funny, and encouraging, and that's all they ever needed. children love kindness. it doesn't matter who it comes from. they'll respond to it. to the kids, it didn't matter who steve was. what mattered was that he was kind. and because of that, he stuck with the show for a little while longer

last summer I finished watching campaign 2 of Critical Role and I must say - it was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had! It was just incredible and even though I truly love campaign 3 and Bells Hells just as much I still really miss The Mighty Nein a lot. they’ll forever have a special place in my heart 💘

What is everyone’s favorite relationship dynamic? (platonic, romantic, or familial, or all?)

For me, it’s when two characters are similar in how they view the world, but different in how they want to deal with it. People can easily discuss and help each other grow and compromise. People who are independent but choose to stay with each other anyway, because they choose to love this person next to them. People who look at each other and decide that sometimes they have to let each other go and grow up first. 

I love those kinds of relationships and wish that stories dealt with them more often.

Me being an Ace and Sebek dynamic lover is the funniest shit. They are such good parallels of each other and if friends, would actually help each other grow and be better versions of themselves - because they are actually similar in some aspects.

"tbh we might have clowned on [aros & aces] a lil too harshly" bigotry. the term you're looking for is bigotry. denying communities their vocabulary and ability to safely exist because you think you're the personal arbiter of which identities are "valid" is bigotry. minimizing and infantilizing and harassing entire groups of people based on their orientation is bigotry. aphobia isn't some forgettable phase of being cringe as a teenager, it's bigotry that inflicted long term damage to these communities.
