Wow, I loved this show.
Shop unique apparel, stickers, merch and gifts. Every design is created by independent artists and printed for each order.
If you’re into t-shirts, check out my stuff on TeePublic. You can find cover art from Spectress & Sabanion and Ruxy Vampire. Pretty cool IMHO, heh.

2026, well…
We’re there.
Happy 2026! We're off to... well... a start. I guess it's anybody's guess how this year is going to pan out, so... in the meantime, let's tell some stories and make some comics. Distractions, FTW!
I was going to take 2026 off for conventions as last year wasn't that great. The economy is still a bit of a question mark right now but, honestly, it seems the world of comics is taking off. Seeing fellow creators at conventions on Facebook and listening to podcasts has really got me stoked for the convention schedule this year. Looking forward to getting back out there, meeting people, and getting my sordid tales into the hands of new readers. Comics news has been entirely positive the past few weeks... at comic shops, at conventions, so LET'S DO THIS! I've applied for a number of shows. I'll keep you posted on where I'll be and when. I'll get that convention page going shortly on the new CageyComics.com.
Right now, my only confirmed show is Madison Anime Fest on March 14th.
Oh Yes, It’s… the Inevitable Spectress & Sabanion #6 Update!
I'm at a point where I'm comfortable w/ the script for S & S #6. It's big... and that's just the way it's going to be and I'm at peace w/ that now. There are certain things that need to be in a Spectress & Sabanion comic: supernatural action, possession, snippets of ancient lore, regret, and bloody horror. Possession is tricky as you have one character inhabiting another. Sometimes the possessor speaks w/ his/her own voice, or sometimes the possessor is trying to hide inside that poor slob whose consciousness is subdued during the possession. This can make things complicated and presents some frustrations for the letterer. I probably should have just ripped off Daredevil for my first comic book but alas, can't do it. Gotta keep it fresh... and weird.
I’ll have the script over to Topper’s eager hands this weekend. WISH US LUCK!
And Hows About Ruxy?
Ruxy Vampire #3 will come right on the heels of Spectress & Sabanion #6 (as soon as fulfillment is done). I’m about halfway into the script and it’s a good time. Ruxy and Apple need to recover Rocco after… let’s call it the Coat Room Incident. Throw in another big gambling debt and an unsanctioned boxing match and you’re just getting started. Stay tuned!
Yup, Time for Covers
As promised, here are the colors for Topper Helmers’s gruesome blood sacrifice cover for Issue #6, with full colors by Wesley Wong.
Almost there…
The Spectress & Sabanion #6 script is percolating w/ my editor and feedback is on its way. It's packed w/ a lot... death, sadism, sacrifice, supernatural journeys, and old regrets. It's packed w/... too much actually. I had to pare a bit back as the rewrite kicked it back up to 40 pages. The plan was to bring everything together at the end of this story arc and blow it all up. Well... it was too much to bring together, LOL! I'm still learning.
Some advice from a guy who, even after several years, still feels new at this: first of all, go for it... but yet... I've got a bit of hindsight to share.
When you really get serious about your idea and start researching making comics, you always hear, "just make a comic, and you're in comics!" So that's what I did. I started a serialized story w/ a loose direction of where I wanted to go and heaped a bunch of goodies in there along the way. In the end, there were too many goodies (Sorn, Cheska, Domira, Sahi, Yevgeni, Jerry Pepper, the Moon Crew, introducing villains (6 of them, no less), the moon ritual, the exorcists, the Blackcoats). Is it too much, or worldbuilding? Or too much worldbuilding? You decide! I’m always open to feedback.
Now... in defense of some of the comic creator advice out there (Write or Wrong was my initial guide), they say "don't start w/ your magnum opus" which basically means warm up a little bit before you start your BIG DEAL. So I created Spectress and thought, boom - that's done, I'm ready for my Ulysses! Don't get me wrong, my 10 pages of black & white magic is near and dear to my heart, but it wasn't enough to get me ready for an ongoing series like Spectress & Sabanion. It was the idea that I had at the time. I'm immensely proud of it, but a little more direction from the outset would have been a good idea. My advice: plan, find an editor from the get go. Find one that turns on the lights for you. I found the right one on the third attempt. If you're just going to write 8 - 12 page vignettes (like the advice says you should), you'll be ok w/o one but if you want to start your magnum opus, your BIG DEAL, find someone who can professionally tell you, "Yeah, this is a bit too much. Let’s make some changes."
I'm lucky enough to have that bit of hindsight while writing Ruxy Vampire (the Ruxy Issue #3 script is about 40% done, btw). I'm going to keep it simple, fun, sexy, and full of action (though there are little voices in my head telling me, "stick Elliot Ness in there! DO IT NOW!" I shall resist!). I have other ideas for other characters in the Sandsverse that could have their own titles also. Really wish I could do this full time!!!
Here's the cover by Chris Ehnot.
This is from my Halloween blog post. A little late, sorry.
Spectress & Sabanion, Issue #6 continues to slouch toward Bethlehem… almost there. In the meantime, Topper Helmers has crafted a disturbingly intense cover for us:
Yup, that’s some good old fashioned Aztec sacrifice. I read a bit about the Aztecs… civilized, way ahead of Europe in terms of astronomy, advanced mathematics and yet… their gods needed blood. They didn’t sacrifice the losers either… nope, they sacrificed THEIR BEST. This ties in w/ Sabanion’s lore, what he was put on Earth to do, and what his ultimate failure was. Can’t wait to see Wesley Wong’s colors on this!
