Son of War

I just met a man who is here at Library Gardens, in Johannesburg CBD, South Africa, who is so willing to take out the current ruling party, African National Congress, because he feels it’s about time that the ANC must step down from their power. Which these days looks like they losing power. Since they lost their major city, Johannesburg, in the local municipality elections that happened recently. I am not a political person, but I cherish the history of the country. Most times, they inspire my artwork. 

What’s more amazing is the way the man I met today was literally one of those who’s names weren’t mentioned in our textbooks, but their actions are the reason why we have so many opportunities and privileges today.

He said that we was taught by the ANC to murder and told also to keep quiet about the killings they did in Lusaka in the ‘80s. Most of the people he personally eradicated were reported missing. Same like the other people who just disappeared.I then asked him why didn’t he speak about this in the late 90′s at the Truth and Reconciliations Commission. His reply was that the ANC told him to keep quiet about it. He feels now is the time to talk about these things because he wants to prevent the country from going into a war state, even if it means using war. I don’t think using fire to prevent fire will work but hey, I’m just an artist. What do I know about killing a man for a shady government or political party? What amazes me the most is the way he is so willing to do anything to change the direction of the country as an individual.

His father was an MK bomber who was part of the Lesotho Seven and he himself was a veteran for the ANC. I asked what made him change from supporting them to practically wanting to literally blow them up from the building. His reply was “Their ideology is creating complete destruction for the country as a whole. Me abiding to their corruption will eventually bite me in the ass. Because my corruption creates poverty. Poverty creates crime. Crimes means I can’t sleep at night. It’s a vicious cycle that’s only prevented if I show the ANC how angry the people are, and tell the truth.”

In my mind, I thought to myself that isn’t it too late? Isn’t it 22 years too late?

I can’t find the answer to that. I’ll just make art of that experience.

This is going to be my last digital art gallery for a little while. After this, I'm going to be having a real art gallery. Anywhoo, KVSV Photos will be having a new project called "notsoseriousbro" which is unicolor project based on Life, Death and the universe. Launching Sept15. Keep on the lookout. Black From Within

Is being “black” about attitude or appearance? Declaring that my ethnical group doesn’t correspond with my cultural choice is irrelevant. You see, Black has become a mentality that conquers and spreads rapidly, Rapidly growing and empowering people of skin tone and thought capacity, It doesn’t discriminate, So why do you hate? Just because my ankles ain’t ashy enough or my ascent ain’t “black” enough, My heart beats at the same pace of the Bongo drums, My back shows the same scars from the lash of the oppressors and yet I am an outcast to my own kind and the kind I admire so dearly, I fearfully respect and cherish tradition, But yet I’m an outsider who can’t stand the heat in the kitchen. Coiled crowns on top of your head, Chocolate skin sun kissed and dipped in honey. Goddesses draped in riches of love and wisdom. Admiration is one thing, Appreciation is another.
