My views on :
The Brothers Karamazov
The book is huge. More than 1000 pages. It took me perhaps a very long time to finish. Also gave up in the middle. But I always wanted to finish it. And I’m so glad I did.
The final novel written by Dostoyevsky before he died. He poured all of his philosophy, soul, trauma everything into this one book. And what a masterpiece. So beautifully written. Many eye-bawling events, some existential crisis moments, chapters you wanna read twice to fully grasp what’s going on. Each page has so many layers to unravel.
Three (actually four) brothers with a shitty father who only cares about himself but is surprisingly rich. All the brothers have extreme characteristics in them and you somehow still find yourself relating to one of the brothers (for me it was Ivan).
An interesting thing is you can’t spoil this book. It is more about ideas than events. If i spoil the events such as ‘Who got murdered’, ‘Who murdered him’, ‘How and why did he do so’…it doesn’t give away the main elements of the book.
After some research and I found out many philosophers like Camus, Nietzsche were inspired by this very book and it shows in their work as well.
Such an important book and one of the best classics to exist in Russian Literature.
I finished the book but somehow i still feel i haven’t fully grasped what Dostoevsky was writing to write.
