getting drunk hadn’t been her intention, not tonight, not really.

but then she’d seen him.

and now here she was, absentmindedly glaring in his direction, grinding her teeth on the straw sitting between her pouted lips. how many drinks had she had? four, five? she hadn’t wanted to get drunk – not when she could still feel the disappointment weighing at the bottom of her heart.

why did she have to go and get caught up in the boy that had broken her friend’s heart?

in jina’s defence, it’s not like bora had described him by the freckles scattered gently across his face (under his eyes, on top of his nose). she’d only seen them for a split second that day (in that moment between two heartbeats, half of his face concealed behind the dusty bookshelves) but she’s almost sure that she could draw out the prettiest constellations with them, if only she could see him up close (one more time). how many times had bora seen him up close? how many opportunities had she wasted, musing about his clothes and his friends and his connections, when she could have been mapping the stars on his face?

she groans quietly, bringing her hands up to cup her face, hoping that the chill from the glass she’d been clutching so tightly will be enough to calm the flush in her cheeks. she’s suddenly conscious of it all. of the thoughts, circling around her mind. of the alcohol, running through her veins, tingling in her fingertips. of the way the music is being drowned out by the sound of her own heartbeat, throbbing in her ears. there’s no one to blame for this situation but him, that much is obvious to her. leaning slightly on the table that had been occupied by her friends only moments ago, she can see him him clearly now. a coy, arrogant laugh in the place of the bashful smiles that he had flashed at her. who does he think he is to be cheating, lying, and making her friends cry? who does he think he is, to be grinning at her behind bookshelves, thinking that he can make her heart flutter? what a fake, what a fraud.

narrowing her eyes in his direction, jina mutters quietly under her breath;

“teddy park.”

what a stupid name.

what a stupid freckled face. what an unattractive smile.

helloooooo friends.......... this is baek jina and i am ella and we are here to ruin ur life..........

BASICS

jina’s mother enrolled her in ballet lessons when she was three years old, she herself having quit ballet after an unexpected pregnancy. jina began dancing en pointe when she was around ten, and was training for thirty-five hours a week at this point, as well as going to school full time.

she would leave school early in the afternoon and dance until nine or ten at night - and it’s been this way for about 15 years now, so naturally, her whole life revolves around ballet. she’s a coryphée at the korea national ballet right now, and is expecting a promotion to soloist in the next year to two which is actually quite young for a dancer???

she was a pretty lonely child because of her intense ballet training - she couldn’t play with the other children or develop meaningful friendships, mainly because she literally had no hours left in her day to play, but also because she was so /tired/ and /in pain/ all the time??? her parents are both very cold and stoic and showed her no love and she naturally thought that if she excelled at this they would finally love her??? her poor kiddy brain

instead of that making her as cold and as stoic as them though, it kind of had the opposite effect on jina - she’s the realest~ and when i say realest~ i mean that she’s approachable and messy and friendly and kind of scatterbrained and also just genuinely the KINDEST person you’ve ever met??? she has SO much love to give and it’s so obvious from the second that you meet her. she’s hella affectionate and once she loves someone she loves them for life???? hoWEVER her parents being so distant and having no one to really talk to as a child meant that she learned how to bottle everything up and attempt to deal with things on her own, even though she has friends who she sees as siblings, she doesn’t really tell them about her feelings???

she literally cannot handle compliments wow

jina spent her teen years painfully in love with this one guy. all the boys in school were fawning over her but she didn’t see them??? she would write him love letters and send him presents (and also send herself presents to make him jealous)?? but nothing worked?? she was so preoccupied with her love for him that she didn’t have the time to date and then she found out after graduation that he was gay all along and everyone knew but her and it was heartbreaking ok

and because of that she’s still a virgin

she doesn’t stop talking honestly if someone were to record the speed at which she talks i’m sure it would win her awards or break some records or somethinG she’s also the clumsiest ballerina anyone has ever met. she can’t walk in a straight line without falling over but when she dances she’s so elegant and everyone is just like ??? what

she gets drunk and overexcited and tries to fight everyone but then sobers up and apologises lmao

obsessively bakes when she’s happy or sad or anxious so basically she’s just baking ALL the time which is good for her dorm mates, i guess?

tl;dr baek jina is a naive lil optimist who thinks that everyone on earth poops rainbows and glitter, she looks at the world through rose-tinted glasses and is basically a bundle of joy and excitement??? she’s so ott that she’s always bumping into everything and breaking shit ok she’s also basically just the sparkle heart emoji personified~

OVERVIEW

friends all the friends? she’s very outgoing and honestly, honestly wants to be friends with everyone (i’m not joking, she seriously would befriend everyone at uni if she had the time). she’s sweet. she’s that girl from mean girls that’s like ‘i wish i could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy’ literally. she can be overprotective and motherly and trusts everyone regardless of their faults

enemies i think that some people might be annoyed by her???? she doesn’t know how to be angry (unless she’s got a signifanct amount of alcohol in her system?? which can be so annoying? like how are you so happy all the time i don’t belieVE you jina

romance jina!! is!! a hopeless!! romantic!! she believes in love at first sight, she wants the whole deal - the whole car door opening, coat taking, love letter writing, flower buying, ‘let’s go out on a romantic moonlight stroll just the 2 of us’ whole deal. she’s never had a boyfriend before and keeps telling everyone that it’s because she was so busy! she’s not a prude or anything! but really she’s not great with actual intimacy and is waiting for ~the one~ lmao she isn’t gonna be waiting much longer. i want her to have gone on awkward dates tho. so. many. awkward. dates.
