Does anyone else find it nauseating...

that since “Mama” June lost weight, the media is now falling all over her and making her out to be some kind of inspiration and a paragon of protective mothering? Sorry, but NOPE. She still went back to the man who molested her daughter. She’s thinner but she is still that same “Mama June” who doped her kid with Red Bull and got angry with her oldest daughter for reporting her boyfriend for molestation. That kind of ugly runs all the way to the bone.

My dad needs help

I use to try avoid post like these but, karma has a funny way of working. I know that I don’t post a lot and am not really that popular but my family needs help. My dad, Carlos, fell down a flight of stairs and hurt his arm and shoulder and is now unable to go to work. He is has a very strong sense of pride, so he didn’t even tell me. (machismo, but anyway)  I just noticed that my family back home was struggling more than we usually do. I’m in college, so I don’t regularly get to see them. My sister told me what happened, and how there isn’t enough money to make bills. 

He’s a good man and I am soooo soooooo lucky to have this man as a father. He was the best father to me when I came out, and actively worked to make schools more accepting of the LGBT+ community ever since. He has ALWAYS been serious about keeping our roots (Afro-Cuban), and our religion. If anyone was down the would always make time to make people smile.

He actively tries to make peoples days brighter, whether it’s at work or in the grocery store. I know that he’s in a bad place right now, and just won’t mention it. He went to the doctor yesterday and was told that he needs to have the surgery as soon as possible to prevent any permanent damage to his shoulder and arm, he estimated that he would need the surgery by May 5th before the injury does damage to his nervous system. My mother and my sister are constantly at their alter praying for change in this situation.

So, all my siblings and I are starting a GoFundMe campaign for him so we can pay for the surgery. I completely understand if you can give any donation (I’m a college student, I know), I would just ask to please please please share, or pray to whichever god(dess) you worship, or even do a small spell for us to reach the goal. I just want my dad to be back the goofy, kind man that he is.I can’t thank you guys enough for even reading this.

Respect Her "No"

As a 19 year old girl, I was shy and meek and very bad at standing up for myself. I worked at a Denny’s with a lot of creepy and rude customers, and one day a regular customer came in and he asked to borrow my pen. I was the only hostess on duty at the time, and the host stand only had one pen, which I very much needed almost constantly. We usually had more pens but servers would often lose theirs and come raid the host station for replacements. This particular pen was very excellent and I guarded the thing with my life… you all know the kind of pen I’m talking about, super ergonomic design and never runs out of ink and writes on any surface. This pen wasn’t going anywhere, not if I could help it.

Well anyway I told the customer, “oh I’m sorry, I’ve only got the one pen right now and I need it”. He said “don’t worry I’ll give it back when I’m done” and just took it. Well I sucked at standing up for myself and they drilled all that ‘customer is always right’ nonsense into our brains pretty well so I just resigned myself to having to track down another pen. (Not an easy task in that restaurant, there was some kind of black hole for pens there.)

Well another customer, a woman in her 40’s, saw the whole thing go down. After the guy had seated himself, the woman pulled a pen out of her purse, I thought she was just going to give it to me but she actually walked over to the guy, snagged my pen out of his hand, and smacked her pen down on the table and said very audibly “Respect her no.” And then she brought me my pen back. I was so touched by this simple gesture of coming to my defense that I paid for her lunch myself. The whole thing took less than 3 minutes but it honestly taught me so much, it taught me the importance of standing your ground, defending other women, and not letting men get away with ignoring your No. If a man can’t even respect a no on something as simple as borrowing a pen, how could he be trusted to respect you on even bigger issues? Anyway I just think about that incident a lot, the importance of standing your ground and not letting men feel entitled to take whatever they want. Bless that woman, I hope she is having a really excellent life.

Can I just say that having this picture get upward of like 30 notes was incredibly encouraging for me. I get ridiculed very regularly for my wardrobe because it doesn’t fit within typical cis standards of styling. Even in my own neighborhood I have been ridiculed for outfits like this, so to have the notes on this that I do is really beautiful. Showing me that my nonbinary identity is something to celebrate and share is very reaffirming and I would love to see this become the norm. Thank you all again 💗

This could lead to some dangerous consequences. Causing interference during a call to 911 immediately comes to mind. This is ass-hattery.
