For anyone who’s ever tried to create an acapella of a Kyary Pamyu Pamyu or Perfume song, this is what you usually end up with.
Here’s an explanation with my limited knowledge.
If an artist releases an official instrumental track along with the regular release, people wanting a “vocal only” or “acapella” track can usually download a high quality version of both files, and on the instrumental track they inverse the phase, essentially creating a shadow of the track. When the new “shadow instrumental” is lined up with the actual original track, essentially the shadow should effectively cancel everything out in the original track that is also in the instrumental — which is, obviously, everything but the vocal.
The final product is usually a fairly usable vocal-only or acapella track that people who want to remix the song can effectively use — except with anything created by Yasutaka Nakata, the producer for many J-Pop groups including Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.
