            he flinches a fraction in surprise when owen’s hand comes to rest upon his shoulder, but conner is not so far off that he’s willing to jerk away (though he has done so before in more heated moments). instead, his tension slacks into the touch with another sigh, neck craning back to focus his frustrated expression up toward the ceiling. there, he listens to owen’s words… and although he is not very practiced at ignoring his own mood-swings for the sake of another person, he decides to try.             his chin drops, lids slowly opening to stare forward at the other man for a few beats of silence that are really more for his own benefit than anything else. it’s owen. your oldest, closest friend. you should be able to get your shit together, man. he’s just trying to help. ’ — aight, ’ conner finally relents, shoulders shrugging. he’s still in a sour mood, but for the time being, he’s been pulled off the ledge. ’ we’ll watch a movie, but only if y'keep goin’. ’ he says in reference to the massaging.

        ❛    alright ,    ❜    his tone is optimistic , a single word spoken in two lifting notes . he's proud of this small victory , more than willing to comply with the other man's request if it means being able to avoid a squabble and get a movie in . the tension in his chest begins to dissolve as both arms wrap around connor for a moment that lasts just long enough .    ❛    i'm gonna go grab a couple'a blankets n' stuff . you get comfortable . i'll be right back !    ❜

               intensely focused as he watches french toast sizzle in the skillet. there is mess on the kitchen island behind him ranging from cinnamon that missed the bowl he’d tried to pour it into, to remnants of poorly cracked eggs. he’s trying.  @kydcontact // cont. from discord

       the moment he steps through the door , he can smell it . conner's cooking . y'know , it's that thing that he didn't really want him to do . . . not because he's a bad cook or anything , but mostly because of the absolute disaster area that's left behind when he decides to . that's not to say that owen doesn't appreciate it , like , he does . thoroughly . he's just kind of under a lot of stress already . . . and , well , he can't ration his anxiety too far past that . which is something of a relief , actually .   ❛    conner . . . you're making breakfast for dinner ?    ❜    an unsure tone in his voice , keys are tossed on the counter so can wrap an arm loosely around his boyfriend's waist . should this turn out alright it may be exactly what owen's needed .    ❛    it looks good .    ❜    a soft smile , thankful and warm , his heartbeat slowing to a blissful pace . it's nice to be home .

       he heaves another sigh, head bowed, hands pressed to his hips— there’s an impending storm that he knows owen is attempting to ward off with his offer. hell, conner really wants to shake it, too. but that stupid article is hanging on, clouding optimism with negativity and frustration.  a hand scrubs over friel’s face, brows bent, jaw set. why is this happening? hadn’t he done his time at the bottom of the barrel? wasn’t the world done being pissed about connquest and aqua-spin? didn’t he make up with lawrence? give up his time at the poppy awards? learn how to be a better friend? ’ ugggghhhhh, ’ after an eye roll, the popstar takes a second to absently scratch at his scalp before crossing his arms over his chest: all tell-tale signs that conner’s keeping a loose lid on his own approaching temper-tantrum. ’ — we already saw finding dory. when it came out. ’ he finds himself saying, turning back toward bouchard. ’ what’s the extended cut got that the original don’t, man ? ’

       ❛    oh , boy . . .    ❜    a mumble under his breath , deciding not taking time to answer conner's question . this guy is really stuck on having a tantrum , which usually means there's nothing that anyone could do to stop it . lawrence maybe , but he's off doing whatever-the-hell a lawrence does on a tuesday evening . so it's up to owen to deal with this mess . . . somehow .

       a lot of caution goes into how he approaches the other man , tentatively placing a hand on his shoulder , pushing into tense muscle with the tips of his fingers .    ❛    you're putting too much stress on yourself . try to stay chill .    ❜    this isn't a new problem . friel’s ambition has always been one of those things that can make or break him . right now it's leaning toward the latter . after having spent the vast majority of his life with the guy , one would think owen knows how to handle a situation like this , but no cigar . nobody can stop conner rom being conner .

        an exasperated sigh. ’ you don’t get it, ’ conner laments, smacking the copy of rolling stone down in front of his partner. there, in the opened book is a one page spread about his new single— largely negative. ’ this shit matters t'me, owen. they’re sayin’ they don’t even wanna hear the album ! i thought this was over when we did the poppies.’ distressed now, the star turns his back, jaw tightening as he looks around the room to dispell some of his frustration. ’ i mean… am i a has-been ? ‘cause that’s how they’re makin’ me feel, man. ’

       a pause        this is exactly what he's been wanting to avoid . a knot pulls tight , firm in his chest knowing that there isn't anything he could really do to fix this . words won't resonate the same way positive reviews will . for owen negativity has always been a challenge , an incentive to do better . for conner , it seems to be the complete opposite .     ❛    nah , man , c'mon . you're getting your second wind ! not everyone is gonna be happy about that . especially not some old hag writing about someone a hundred times more successful them .    ❜    though his tone is dismissive , owen can't help but frown , a grimace out of both pity and the fear that conner is going to do something destructive .    ❛    why don't we do somethin' t' get your mind off that stuff , huh ?    ❜    he glances down at the tabloid laid in front of him , scanning the page before shaking his head , flipping the thing closed before standing up .     ❛    i just got the extended cut version of finding doryyy .    ❜    eyebrows raise , trying to make the offer of watching a children's movie seem more enticing than it probably should be .
