"As the director has stated many times roughly 9 minutes of footage had been cut from My Bloody Valentine to secure a R rating instead of an X rating by the MPAA, in result most if not all gory scenes had been cut by the MPAA because of the backlash against Friday the 13th and John Lennon's murder. In 2009 a special edition of the film was released with most of the Gory footage put back into the film, the only footage missing is the onscreen impalement of Michael and Harriet. And when John discovers Sylvia's corpse, there was originally supposed to be a shot of the the water coming through Sylvia's turning blood red. which was said to have deteriorated over the years. Even though a still of the Sylvia scene can still be seen online with a very fake looking dummy. Despite six minutes of footage remains missing, George Milhaka said that those six minutes were only expository footage, like character development and other non violent scenes, and not gory footage. George says the 93 minute version is is 80 to 85% of the way of how it's meant to be. And it's the way the movie was meant to be seen, even despite the grainy quality of the cut footage."
