i did this over a month ago but never uploaded because i've been in the worst art block of my LIFE. my style has been warping everywhere and it's been awful awful awful especially with artfight right around the corner! i don't know what to do!

"why isn't it ok to have rapist or school shooter OCs??" Because most of you suck at writing

I do agree, MOST people with "problematic" OCs DO suck at writing because they don't understand the character nor the experience and are usually just placed into the story as an evil villain with nothing else about them and expect that to just work. But in a majority of cases like this, the author just sucks at writing overall, I think having a character with only one trait/event being important to them (they're a rapist!! they got killed!! they're a basketball player!! okay? what ELSE??? people aren't one dimensional) is terrible writing no matter if they're morally good or bad

But not everyone sucks at writing characters like this! I've got characters who've done awful things, and although I wouldn't say I'm the greatest writer at all, I'm not trying to defend their behaviour or excuse it as something small, nor am I making it their entire story or defining trait. Same with all my characters, and whoever is actually taking the time to read this should think about that too. Don't make your characters one-dimensional, expand their life past what you have and your writing (probably) will be better!

Got a little side-tracked but as I said in my comment this ask came from, it's fine to have OCs like this, as long as we don't deny or excuse their behavior or act as if there's nothing awful about them etc. You can have OCs of literally anything as long as you know what you're doing, and that applies to ANYTHING

Not sure why you're sending an ask in about this to my tumblr though considering you might've come from a burner account anyways and I'm not a popular person on tumblr nor toyhouse so 🤔
