A recolor set for one of the kitchens that came with Dream Home Decorator! As soon as I got my little grabby hands on the new gameplay pack, I couldnât wait to recolor this set. I was missing a true plain black swatch and I didnât like the differently colored fronts or the wooden handles. So, as soon as S4S was updated, I got to work (*ba-dum tss*). But Iâm not here to make bad puns, Iâm here to tell you what I did:
I recolored the counter, the island and the cabinets (no mesh edits this time)
The different swatches have the same color/swatch all over now except for the countertops or the handles and decorations and stuff (no more fronts with different colors)
I recolored all the handles to look like metal
I added a few more colors: All objects come in plain black and plain white swatches, 7 wood tones (that match what we already have in the game) and 5 accent color swatches (that match the other objects from Dream Home Decorator to mix and match). Added to that, the counter and the island have 3 different countertop swatches for every color option (so, the cabinets have 14 swatches and the counter and the island have 42 swatches each)
So, all in all I made it a lot more basic but I find it a lot more versatile this way and I actually get more use out of all the swatches now and I hope that you will too :) I planning to recolor the other modular items from DHD that match the kitchen as well to get even more options to mix and match (and because I really donât like the wooden handles). Itâs just a matter of how much work it is and how long it would take me - Iâll keep you updated (and please let me know if youâd be interested in that too, that would help to motivate me :D)
Since the items have a lot of swatches, you might not be able to see them all in the catalog. An easy fix for this is to play around with the filtes in build/buy to move the items to a different position (more to the right), so that you can see all the swatches. Alternatively, you can place the item down and then manually choose whichever swatch you like or skip through the swatches with the + key :)
Thereâs still a lighting bug with the original upper cabinets that I wasnât able to fix in my recolor either (the inner and outer corner pieces look darker than all the other pieces of the same swatch). Hopefully, EA fixes this in the future, or maybe a modder is able to figure it out. If there are any news on this, Iâll update this post.
