“NOW THAT’S FUCKED UP, why put together a group if he’s going to ditch it? He didn’t say anything? You could always try to recruit a new leader?” Kyle offers as a suggestion. “Someone to help you out at least?”

“Maybe we should learn to stand down.” Hal suggested. “They don’t want us here— us? We can leave, Kyle. You, me, Jess, even Guy and Simon wherever the hell they are. There are creatures out there that need us and I’m getting the vibe that humans aren’t too fond of having help anymore.”
“ARE YOU SAYING YOU THINK we should leave Earth?” Kyle asks as he’s confused by the statement, but then again he doesn’t spend that much time down there anyway. “Well I’m usually out there more than I’m fighting down here so. They don’t like us anymore, no, which is a shame. Did you know they put me on the honor guard?”

“Yeah?” She sighed. “You hear that Tim ditched me with the rest of the nerd herd? Now, apparently, I’m in charge of them.”
“TIM DID WHAT NOW? You’re leading a team? Look at that Rose, you’re all grown up.” He says with a grin. “How’s that going?”

“Apparently you did– seeing as you weren’t blown to pieces.” Hal scoffed, following it with a laugh. “I think most of the Lanterns have jumped ship on this place. They’re not doing too hot here and it’s past our ability to help.” He shrugged.
“I’M FOND OF NOT being blown apart.” Kyle replies with a smile toward his friend. “I guess you may be right, but hey this is our home, we should protect it. I’m not going to give up just yet, Hal. Neither should you.” He nudges him gently.

This is the last place Jess wanted to be even before the speech. Now, she feels uncomfortable, panicked, and frankly a little sick to her stomach. If it weren’t for Kyle she probably would’ve left already - but as always he’s keeping her steady, helping her hold it all together, at least until she can afford to freak out.
“You look great. Did I mention that? You look really good. I mean, you always do, but you know what I mean.” She mumbles quietly to him, clutching onto his arm tight as she glances around the party. Ever since the Mayor’s speech the atmosphere in here has been different - and not in a good way. “Do you think it’d look bad if I left? It probably would, wouldn’t it. God, I should’ve quit already. I’m the last person who should be here.”
KYLE FEELS OUT OF PLACE at this party, since he’s sure that an artist like himself who wasn’t famous should be at such an event, but he couldn’t let Jessica come alone. He was honored to be her date to this thing, and pulled out his best suit for it.
However what comes next surprises him by the speech, but most of all he was disappointed. He keeps her close though, looking at her and ignoring everyone else. “We can come up with an excuse? We can tell people you aren’t feeling well?” He suggests as a way of getting the two of them out of here.

“Alone? Already?” Hal’s brow lifted at the fact anyone was sending Kyle anywhere on his own, but that was just his protective nature over the kids. “Aren’t we all at this point? Not trying hard enough, if you ask me. But what do I know.” He mumbled.
“EVERYONE WAS BUSY so they had to send me on my own. It wasn't easy, but man, when is it ever? I got the job done though.” Kyle says with a smile over at his friend. He was always seen as one of the babies out of all of them, and he isn’t sure he’ll ever shake it. “We’re doing our best, but I'm gone more than I’m here.”

“Something that really stands out…” Leo mused. There were a lot of things that stood out in their own way, but this guy probably wasn’t looking to buy half the store. “What’s your fancy? Big? Colorful? Fragrant? I’ve got a few working hybrids, if you want something really unique.”
KYLE WASN’T SURE what he was looking for exactly, but he’ll know it when he finds it. “How about something big, and colorful? Can you do that? What kind of hybrids?” He asks as he looks at the other. Now the man loves flowers, but he hasn’t done this in a while.

“Hang on. Coffee first.” Leo took a long sip, then lowered the mug and glanced up at the stranger. “Okay go.”
“COFFEE IS IMPORTANT, take your time.” Kyle says with a smile as he looks at the man, then looks around at the place. “I’m looking for something that really stands out.”

Jess is so frantic she barely even pays any attention to the clothes she’s grabbing, puling on a pair of leggings and one of the t-shirts Kyle had left behind at some point when he was there. Her hair is still a little wet but she barely even notices as she rushes over to the door, her hands shaking in surprise at Kyle’s offer. The last thing she’d ever expected was for him to ask her something like that - and what’s even scarier is she wants to say yes.
She flings the door open, wide-eyed like a deer caught in headlights, staring at Kyle in shock. It’s good to see him - it always is, that hasn’t changed, and she’s relieved that he doesn’t seem to be injured at all, but right now her mind is racing, running over his question over and over again. “Really?” She asks softly, her eyes widening a little more. “You wanna live together?”
KYLE DID MEAN WHAT HE SAID, with wanting the two of them to move in together. He couldn’t see why they shouldn’t, they spent a lot of time together anyway. He should have waited to ask after she opens the door, but he doesn’t regret it. He’s standing there with a bouquet of flowers, hoping that she will like them. There’s a smile on his face as he waits for the door to open. When it does the smile just grows.
“Yeah, really. Do you want to move in with me?” Kyle offers, asking formally now as he hands over the flowers for her. He closes the distance between them a little, and waits for her answer. He hopes it’s yes, that they both want this.

Hal’s brows furrowed, “You didn’t leave Jessica on her own– did you?” He shrugged his shoulders, staring out at the mostly quiet street. “When I left everyone was losing their shit because the city went full blown apocalypse mode. I’m supposed to believe you all actually had it under control? Kyle. Come on.” Hal teased with a scoff.
“Well they sent me on the mission alone, but Jessica is a badass, and she had Simon while I was gone.” Kyle reassures him with a smile. “Believe it or not I'm pretty good at handling apocalyptic situations, Hal.” He says as he tries to laugh it off. “I don’t think anything will ever be completely okay here, but they’re trying.”

“Bright and sunny as ever.” Hal mused as he stepped out of a coffee shop, he was only using their bathroom to change into some normal clothes. He’d only been in town for maybe ten minutes, which was record time in going unnoticed for him. “It’s not as noisy as I left it though— what did you all do?” Hal turned to the set of eyes he felt watching him.
“I’M NOT THE ONE TO ASK. I was gone for a few weeks.” Kyle admits as he just got back to Earth. He puts the sketchbook in his hands down, turning his attention back to Hal who seems to have also just gotten back from wherever he was. He smiles although it’s obvious how tired he was. He hasn't slept much while he was on the mission he was sent on, and was struggling to adjust to a normal sleep schedule. “I don’t mind the quiet though really.”
