Fruits Basket is wild because the premise is "Haha! Wow! These Pretty Anime Men turn into Animals when theyre hugged and then when they turn back they're NAKED!!! 😳😳😳 ehe silly anime!" but then you watch it and its like. Every Character on this show is physically, financially, and emotionally controlled by one person with immeasurable wealth and power. the main characters stories revolve around their slow recovery from the trauma of physical/verbal abuse, sexual manipulation, and neglect. there's a love triangle that isnt even about Who Gets The Girl, but rather each individual's growth as a human being, understanding that they are worthy of love and compassion, that there are people in this world who will love them, unconditionally, and that they DESERVE to be loved. love EXISTS and nothing about them makes them unworthy of whole, unbiased love. that realization is a pivotal part of their healing and it's a central theme of the show that comes up for each and every character, whose own journeys follow that same thread of healing past wounds with compassion, love, and friendship.

Neither of them seemed to notice her standing there which only fueled her more, so she marched up and wrapped her arms around her boyfriend’s waist from behind, burying her face in his back, to hide the pinched expression she was sure she was wearing, but also just to…inhale him, the scent of the lemon detergent they used along with something musky that was so distinctly him. The reminder that he was there and he was hers was usually enough to quell those bad feelings.

I've always had this headcannon that after the curse breaks Tohru loves to kiss the inside of Kyo's wrist that used to wear the cat bracelet & the first time she did it he almost cried & whenever the former zodiac see her do it they can't help but secretly feel a bit emotinal & turn thier eyes away to give them a little privacy because they know how much of a big deal it is for the couple (especially Kyo) to be able to be so intimate with one another without fear & it feels like a moment that should belong to just them.

Ya’ll what got me in today’s Furaba episode was the parallel between Tohru trying to ‘teach’ herself to smile and laugh for Kyo’s sake and her teaching herself to speak politely like her dad when she was young for Kyoko’s sake.

Young Tohru was SOO scared of losing her mom to her dad’s death, she pushed down all her feelings and changed her character ENTIRELY to keep her mom happy. But now, even though she tried SO HARD to change again, she couldn’t contain those feelings. Her hurt was shown to not only to Kyo, but to all her friends, despite her best efforts.

It really is a subtle, but perfect cherry on top to not only Tohru’s love for Kyo outgrowing her love for Kyoko, but in turn, Tohru’s character development, as she didn’t need to change or hide her feelings to receive love from her important people. She got it by being her true, honest self.
