The Naruto fandom genuinely has to be the dumbest fandom of the big 3. What is wrong with them? Actually asking btw…. The amount of times i keep seeing people down play Sasuke’s importance cuz they don’t like him pmooo. Dont mf play. What manga are they reading genuinely? Saying that because they swear up and down they read every chapter. Naruto can not shut up about Sasuke. Quite literally admitted so many times Sasuke was the person who he wanted acceptance and recognition from the most. The person who he was always chasing. The person who made him feel something he couldn’t put into words unlike Iruka where he instantly knew (yes this is real the brother panel in JP VOTE1 Fight he was more hesitant when naming what and Sasuke had in contrast with Iruka where the wording was more certain, Kishi is that man yall) the person who he wanted to die with, the person who because of him with Iruka (mentioning Sasuke before iruka) was able to stop hum from going on the wrong path. BUT WAIT!! He did all this because he was an empath?? Right?? So why didn’t he do the same with Gaara? Or Neji? Or idk maybe Kakashi or Jiraya, hes such an empath yall their death or something happening to them would seriously haunt him he wants to die with them. Also nothing matters between sasuke and Naruto because when Naruto begged the RaiKage and hyperventilated it was because he promised Sakura and he doesn’t go back on his words. Also lets ignore that every time Naruto is in the vicinity of Sasuke and was talking with him convincing him his mind not once went back to Sakura in a more meaningful lingering exclusively way, not alongside his own feelings. Lets ignore that Sasuke tried to kill Sakura Naruto’s crush, but what did Naruto do? He excused Sasuke. He said he wanted to die with him and understand him better in the afterlife. They will talk about Sakura’s promise there yall trust because Naruto just goes hard for Sakura, lets also ignore kishi genuinely using NS as comic relief instead of anything meaningful.

Mf genuinely just straight up disrespecting Kishi at this point. It can’t be this hard to understand.

I came across ur blog and i lovee ur analysis on naruto and sns, i feel like so many fans dont rlly GET either character, especially sasuke and immediately hate him which i think makes it hard for them to engage with part 2/shippuden because they disagree with the narrative that he can be redeemed/has any reason to be loved by naruto.

like i remember seeing a thread the other day with a male fan saying that in that he should have remained a villian the whole story/or naruto should have killed him after 5 kage summit arc.😭

thank you for reading my blog! I appreciate it. People subconsciously pick up Sasuke is the love interest and object of desire of the series and they very much do not like it, in their heads he should've been a rival, villain, servant, DEAD, anything other but

I feel like people don't grasp that chapter 3 when Sasuke and Sakura are introduced for the first time Kishimoto is laying the ground to subvert their expectations. At the beginning of the chapter Kishimoto introduces Sakura as the love interest and Sasuke as the rival Naruto is jealous of.

So naturally shonen readers (and basically anyone who's read a hero coming-of-age story) would expect Naruto to be one of those zero to hero story where he eventually gets the girl who finally "sees him" and chooses him but also to humble the rival and showcase his superiority. But Kishimoto never intended any of that. Throughout the third chapter we learn that it's a chapter of misconceptions.

Sasuke doesn't dislike Naruto how it's initially implied, he defends him from Sakura's bullying and rejects her instead. He's also charmed by Naruto's anticts and takes no offense in them (like getting ambushed and tied). He also doesn't know the accidental kiss Naruto gave him was, well... an accident.

Sakura doesn't know the person who praised her forehead (as a joke, not even seriously) is Naruto disguised as Sasuke. So this ofc adds to her delusions about Sasuke.

Naruto doesn't know Sasuke doesn't hate him and actually wants to get close to him and because he's been bullied and shunned his whole life (plus Sasuke is awkward and proud himself during their first interactions) he distrusts Sasuke.

All these misconceptions shape Team 7 dynamics for the rest of the manga. What Kishimoto is doing from the third chapter is subvert the expectations of a shonen. Sakura is actually Naruto's rival and Sasuke is Naruto's love interest and that's the line Kishimoto develops throughout the whole series

Like imagine being Sasuke, the boy you've been wanting to get close to due to your shared loneliness then kisses you unprompted but also ambushes you and ties you with a rope, like omgggg no wonder why he kept asking Naruto wtf they were

but yeah, if you miss the point *this* early you're not gonna get the series and will wonder why Kishimoto didn't kill of Sasuke as soon as shippuden began

It’s really weird though how people can pick up on the fact that Kishimoto obviously found Sasuke an engaging character to write about and a lot of the characters in-universe feel a strong attachment to him to the point where he drives the plot in many ways and consider that evidence of poor writing or favoritism but overlook the absurd levels of uncritical praise heaped on Naruto and Itachi by other characters and the way the story’s plot and themes bend to Kishimoto’s desire to portray them as perfect heroes. And then they turn around and hate on characters like Sasuke for not conforming to Naruto and Itachi’s worldviews and not giving them exactly what they want like most other characters (unrealistically) do. No character in-universe is personally responsible for stealing another’s potential because the extent of a character’s screen time and development is the choice of the author, nor are they responsible for how others respond to them, but if you’re going to consider the author’s favoritism and biases then that should be applied to all characters.
