Franklin sat in his office, filling out some paperwork. Sure, he wasn’t part of the police force, but town PR was his specialty. He leaned back in the leather chair, taking a deep breath. He didn’t know Jack or Mary Beth that well, but what he was particularly worried about was the leak of the police interviews. That had gone viral, the entire world knew about it. He heard a knock at his door, and he lifted his head. “Come in.”
bonnie wasn’t sure why she had shown up at franklin’s office but here she was. ‘thanks.’ she mumbled as he beckoned her in. ‘i don’t know why i’m here, well, i do, i want to know what’s happening, i want to know if things are being done behind the scenes to sort all this mess out. sales in the diner have dropped, people have stopped visiting, i rely on my business as you know so i need to know that you’re figuring this out.’
WHAT: BONNIE STRESSING OUT
WHERE: BONNIE’S DINER
WHO: BONNIE & OPEN
‘i’m sorry you’re going to have to wait a couple of minutes for a table.’ bonnie gave an apologetic smile in the direction of the person who had walked in, she had plates on either arm and she was stressing out. ‘i’ll clear up a table real quick for you.’
Sommer let out some air, almost a laugh, at the question. “I’m working on the podcast episode on the murders.” She didn’t want to give anyone her information, not yet. “Have anything good?” She was one of the only people cleared, and it sucked that she had no really good information. “I’ll share if you do.”
georgie shook her head. ‘everyone seems to be very reluctant to give up any information around here. i don’t know why, i’m just trying to get the story out there, it might reach the right person, you know. i’m sure you understand that.’ she folded her arms and huffed a little. ‘i’ll come to you if i find anything out though.’
hayden rolled her eyes at the question. the last thing she needed was to keep dragging up what she had seen the night of the murders. and it wasn’t really something people needed to know about either. being new in town was hard enough, she wasn’t about to be blamed for details coming out too. “i don’t think i can help you much with that.”
georgina just seemed to be annoying everyone and here she was just trying to do her job. ‘fine, sorry to bother you then…no, you know what, i’m not sorry because i’m just doing my job.’ she seemed a little fraught as she spoke but she put that down to stress of not getting anywhere with this story.
“You know, I could have sworn your portions weren’t this big the last time I visited.” Joanna was only have teasing as she caught sight of the owner as she sat in one of the secluded tables in the corner of the diner. She’d been starving when she’d arrived and it was very possibly just her eyes being bigger than her stomach. Either way she was now quite full, with half a plate still in front of her.
bonnie had been feeling the pressure lately, she wanted to ease the pain of those around her and if that meant piling their plates high, that’s exactly what she was going to do. bonnie smiled as joanna spoke to her, she gave a small shrug as if to say i don’t know what you’re talking about. ‘we’ve always done the biggest portions around, we’re good like that, if you can’t finish it i can get it boxed up for you to take with you.’
There was a little bit of vindictive pleasure at the way the woman seemed to be speechless, at least for a moment. But she sighed as the questions resumed. “Right, so cheating is punishable by death now is it? Shall I line up my husband next? Or maybe old Mrs May down the road, I remember a few years ago there was quite a scandal with her and the postman for crying out loud.” She snapped.
‘i never explicitly said that it was punishable by death but you know — it’s not a great look.’ georgie didn’t like that she was being made out to be the bad one here. ‘i’m sorry about your son, mrs masen and i’m sorry about your husband but i’m genuinely just trying to do my job and if i have overstepped then i sincerely apologise and will back off and just so you know, if you need anything at all, my door is always open.’

“Maybe not for you, but you didn’t lose your son.” Joanna murmured giving a small frown as Georgie took down the notes. She tried to take a few deep breaths knowing that it wouldn’t be wise to get too upset. “Are you really trying to say that because a 22 year old made mistakes that he deserved that? That it makes it right? We’re all human, I’m fairly certain none of us can say we’ve done nothing that might put us on this killer’s radar.”
georgie for once was at a loss for words, she would never understand the pain that joanna was going through but neither would anyone else unless she spoke about it. ‘i can say with almost certainty that i have never done anything that would possibly get me killed.’ she guessed that what she was doing right now might piss someone off but not to the point of murder, surely.
“i’m not permitted to share any information with you,” mia responded curtly. much more curtly than she would have usually. but this was different. this was her family. her baby cousin. “i don’t really have five minutes, either,” she added. it was a precarious position because as a family member she’d been advised not to talk to the press, and as one of the forensic scientists working on the case she had her usualy professional protocal to follow. her lips were sealed in more than one situation. mia grabbed her coffee to go from the counter and took a sip. “you’re better off looking for one of those podcasters, or something,”
georgie knew this would be difficult, everyone seemed to be related to the people who had been killed in one way or another so it wasn’t going to be easy to get information from them. “i just want to know what you think of the situation? do you think it’s going to be a thing again? do you think this is just the beginning? all simple questions if you ask me.’
“Bloody hell, in what way is that a simple question?” Joanna spat taking a step back from the bar. She hadn’t been expecting that to be the questions straight out the gate and the sudden reminder of how people were viewing Jack now caused a physical pain. “Jack was just a boy, barely an adult. No matter what he did he didn’t deserve that.”
‘well i don’t think it was the most difficult question in the world.’ georgie wrote in the notes app on the phone, regardless of the effect she had had on joanna masen, this would make for some good writing. ‘he was old enough to know better though, right? he must’ve known right from wrong.’ she really couldn’t help herself at this point, this is why she was so good at her job, she provoked a reaction and reactions were what she needed for her articles.
Joanna was somewhat stunned for a minute but now that the woman had asked for a drink she couldn’t very well ask her to leave. So, after a moment, she poured the beer and (with a little too much force) put it down in front of her. “Do I get to know your name first?”
georgie just raised a brow as the beer splashed down, she wouldn’t show her annoyance because that would get her absolutely nowhere. ‘i’m georgina and i think this is the first time i’ve actually been in here, it’s not bad you know. so…your son, not a great guy it would seem? how do you feel about the allegations made against him? do you feel that they are justified? was the killing an act of revenge do you think? did he deserve it?’ she’d gone too far but it was too late now, these were the questions that everyone was simply dying to know.
“Dear god journalists really do have no tact do they? Or is that just you?” Joanna wasn’t sure whether or not they knew who she was but coming into Masen’s and asking for information wasn’t the best idea and having been working all day Jo’s temper was far too short to be polite. “Either order a drink or leave. Please.”
georgie could tell she had hit a nerve and decided that maybe she should leave it at that but she had every right to ask questions, she knew who this woman was and she had every right to be mad but at the end of the day, georgie was just doing what she got paid to do. ‘okay, i’ll have a beer, whatever you’ve got, now will you answer my very simple questions? i’m just doing my job.’
WHAT: GEORGINA TRYING TO GET THE GOSSIP.
WHERE: ANYWHERE YOU WANT(WE CAN DECIDE ON THAT)
WHO: GEORGINA & OPEN
‘i’m doing an article on the murders, you think you could answer a couple of questions?’ georgina wasn’t one to shy away from asking the questions that everyone wanted to know and since the killer had outed several people for their shady behaviour, georgie was over it like a bad rash. ‘i won’t keep you long, five minutes max.’
