One thing I would want to include is about how Edward was obsessed with listening to music because he couldn’t sleep and needed something to pass the time:
Well—Bylerfying this—imagine Will is still obsessed with drawing. Largely because he misses sleeping, more so because he misses dreaming. He misses what it was like to slip away into a fantasy and go somewhere completely new and novel. Which is why he loves watching Mike sleep. Not only is it fascinating but he wishes so badly he could join him, to see shapes and colors and places only his mind could create.
But unfortunately, he can’t. And Mike notices this immediately when Will brings him to the house. Mike comments on the easels, and the paintings, and the wall full of sketch books. And Will just shrugs, saying it’s how he prefers to pass the time and how it’s his only way to slip, even if momentarily, into something other than reality.
Mike finds this endearing obviously, and constantly tells Will how great he is, and that’s he’s not missing out on dreams anyway (considering Mike dreamt of a giant robot destroying the earth not too long ago).
It makes Will feel better, but still he just wishes, just for one more time he could dream….
However, over time, Will’s paintings and drawings become less about scenery and landscape. Less about a dream fantasy world he misses. And more so about his reality. More so about Mike. His hands, his face, his silhouette. How Mike looks when he’s eating. How he looks when he’s sleeping. How he contemplates with his brows furrowed. The look he gives Will when he wants to say something but doesn’t.
And not too long after Will starts another new sketch book, has he realized that he no longer yearns to fall asleep to be able to dream. Because now, he has everything he’s ever wanted right here, awake in reality, just being able to be with Mike.
