hi crystal have i ever told you how fascinated i've always been with your interests in art history, history overall, and knowledge of some obscure as hell literature. like personally i could never make myself study so much, so i always feel big respect and fascination to people who can. keep going girl 💪💪💪

Art history is honestly something that I mostly stumbled into, first just as it relates to my own art practice; it's quickly outgrown that and become my main area of focus, both academically and career-wise. I will say that it's definitely an academically challenging field (just ask my irl friends how much I complained about writing my cynocephali paper this past semester), but it's incredibly rewarding to dig into and explore an obscure topic!

I honestly think that every single person could benefit from learning about art history, and art history methodology specifically. Art history has fundamentally changed the way I see the presence of the past on today, and the ways in which even the most simple and neutral-appearing aesthetic/artistic choices are never actually neutral.

But minor tangent aside—and while yes, it is definitely a lot of work and a lot of reading specifically—art history is super rewarding for me! I get to spend most of the semester 100% questioning my sanity over the research topic I've decided to argue, and then somehow enter a flow state and end up with a really interesting paper at the end of everything which (usually) makes sense. I will stay strong to write more weird papers. 💪💪

It's that time of year again, and I'm now the big ol' 24!

A lot has happened in the last year for me: I moved several hours away from home and started graduate school. It's been hard to be away from friends and family, but I've made lots of new friends here in my program. On top of that, I'm prepping to write my masters thesis, which is crazy to think about. Either way, thanks to new and old friends for sticking with me on my wild journey <3
