steam made a holy show of me a few years ago being open in the background while I was watching a film from my laptop plugged into the TV with my housemates while two of my other friends clearly had some kind of ongoing in joke.

The little pop up in the corner showed up despite the film being full screen

First it was:

"Cumbeast69 is now playing CSGO."

I felt an awkwars shift in the room but everyone politely ignored it until 8 mins later:

"Nefarious cum mastermind is now playing CSGO" and their profile picture was a photo of Jeffrey Epstein

At which point my landlord threw up his hands and said "ok what is WRONG with your FRIENDS????"

(same landlord later got me a cock.li email address)

The OBSESSION with identity is so crazy like the view that when you do something it immediately becomes part of your identity and all the parts of you have to click together to become “person who wakes up early” or “person who reads” no you can literally just do something without restructuring your whole performance of personhood around it. I don’t know what to tell you except that you will never be able to have an entirely unfractured view of yourself or that you will be able to rationalize all the complex parts of yourself into the phrase “person who x” like you should just be doing things without performing them. Or aestheticizing them. Just try different things on and keep what works for you. Otherwise you will never learn and grow!

Dealing with beauty standards is rough, and it can really negatively affect/destroy your self-esteem. (Speaking from ongoing experience…) So, I say this with respect and understanding: this is an odd take.

If I did this, am I meant to assume that the women at Walmart do not care about beauty standards? If not, what is the thing that’s supposed to make me feel better? Should I assume by looking at them that they don’t stress about their appearance in the same way that I do (and so they also must not care about beauty standards—and certainly not the ones that occupy me, as a younger, relatively hotter [perhaps] woman)?

What makes you think that the girls and women at Walmart are not subject to the same pressures that you (and I) are, and that they don’t feel the same shame you (and I) do?

This just seems like a bad way for a person to feel better about themselves. When we make these sorts of assumptions, consciously or not, we’re feeding into the same toxicity that makes us feel bad about ourselves.

it’s more about the fact that the average woman does not have access to intensive costly beauty procedures and treatments or surgeries that require continual and lifelong upkeep like your average woman is still subject to beauty standards and shame associated with them but she’s not as likely or as easily able to access things an influencer may.

I'm not at the Walmart but I'm at Tesco looking very ordinary because I actively think the beauty standard that's currently popular looks ugly and dumb as shit. You will never see a photo of me online because I think it's ugly and dumb as shit to take photos of yourself and put them online. I can only imagine that people who are anything like me feel the same. So there are plenty of women out there too who are not even trying to look like that but you won't see us on the internet, because I can kind of only describe the look you guys are talking about as "an internet way to look."

I'll be honest, if I was born with some debilitating genetic disorder, and the technology existed to excise it from my genes, and my parents chose not to because it would be "eugenics" to have a child without cystic fibrosis or hemophilia, and they expected me to see them as the moral superiors in that argument, I would hate them so fucking much.

There's a line between "People with serious health concerns deserve to live as well as they can, like anyone" and "Serious health concerns are Good Actually, anyone who ever resents having one or feels sorry for those who do, or wish the disorder didn't exist, is a monster." I'm sorry, who's the one who thinks the person is only their disease and nothing else again?

This is also why, despite my own mental health falling apart, I've resisted overmedicalizing my problems. Like...I don't think it actually helps, or at least not as much as tumblr thinks it does, but it's definitely a great way to get enmeshed in a crab-bucket-ass pit of despair.

Humans do have a surprisingly small amount of sexual dimorphism. On average more difference can be explained by culture more than biology. The horrible youth diet culture has a huge impact on height. Most people can train to lift a surprisingly large amount of weight, it's only at the upper competative level that differences become important... And even then ease of getting funding is significant.

I genuinely think this is most evident in the fact that it is SO easy for us to change sex. Like our bodies are similar enough that a perisex male can become female and a perisex female can become male just by using HRT!

for over a decade, i've seen posts warning against tearing down stickers because of razor blades behind the sticker. i've torn down hundreds of stickers, and i've never encountered this—i think the razor blade myth makes people less likely to tear down stickers

yeah, noone got hurt by this because if youve ever taken down a sticker it's extremely obvious if there's anything weird glued under the edges of the sticker, and even if you didnt notice it would be hard to hurt yourself. It's more dangerous with like A4 posters that you might try to rip down in one motion by hand. and then if you do it cautiously there is zero danger again.

I personally just tear down stickers (and save them for my fascist sticker collection!) and then cover the spot up with an antifa sticker. I have done this hundreds of times without ever finding a razor. I have torn down pro-israel stickers in those mentioned months and never found a razor.

I agree that people scaring others about possible razors are more effective at keeping nazi propaganda up than anything else, and that worrying about that is stupid UNLESSS youve heard a specific warning in your city in that month. So. ideally, if you havent heard anyone mentioning personally finding razors under stickers in your city this month, you should shut the hell up warning people about them, because its basically never an issue.

i also havent found any razor blades despite doing hundreds of sticker actions but i suppose it's always possible.

since i dont see sticker posts much i will take this opportunity to add that a good way to piss off the other side if youre engaged in a sticker war is to remove their sticker carefully, clean the surface (alcohol wipes work great for this) so its maximally sticky, and after you apply your sticker, cover it in a layer of any kind of grease. chapstick, baby oil, vaseline, doesnt matter. it will make your sticker impossible to put another sticker on top of, and extremely difficult to grab and pull off the surface without being physically injurious to anyone (including janitorial staff if applicable). im in favor of physically injuring fascists, but razorblades seem like a high risk for collateral damage. an optional step is using industrial adhesives or wood glue to glue stickers down but this is time-intensive. still, the "wheatpastes" i put up on capital hill with wood glue instead of actual wheat paste lasted like three years. all i had to do was dilute basic elmer's wood glue with water and apply with a spray bottle and brush if i was being fancy
