tips for journaling from someone who has picked it up these significant times™️ to stay sane
do not start by journaling every day. you will burn out
pick something more reasonable - i started with once a week bc it was enough that i built a habit, but not so much that i got bored super quickly
put everything in one journal to start and try different types of journaling
like put movie/book reviews, journal entrees, doodles, junk journal spreads, etc, etc. all in there and figure out what you like without committing a whole notebook to (1) thing
the best notebook is the one you already have, even if it has already been partially used. it's part of the object biography now
when it comes to the classic "what do i write about?" question - anything, pretty much. which makes it harder
some people make it like a recap of what happened; sometimes it's a brain dump; could be just about what you ate that day
when i don't know what to write, i like to think about what future historians would thank me for writing about - recipes for things, what pop culture is popular, my thoughts on political/world events, where i go to buy my batteries for my lamp or whatever
(you can also pull up prompt lists if you're very lost, especially if you are interested in shadow work/inner child healing and things of that nature)
except that there will be chunks of time that you will forget to/not be able to journal. especially if you qualify for a DSM-5 membership card
you will be sad you don't have things from that chunk of time, but that is just part of being a person, and you kinda just have to make peace with that
journaling is meant to serve you and your needs, not the other way around. if it sucks hit da bricks
