my favorite thing about sterek is that none of it was intentional, at least not at first. the looks, the touches, the underlying sexual tension. the chemistry between the characters was so good that we, as a fandom, were able to delve deeper into the relationship and create our own development that wasn’t even intended, but fully evident throughout the series. what makes me even more happy is that it was more than just a stereotypical ship for the hell of it. there was an actual story and an actaul relationship. an obvious bond between them that proved to be more than a sexual encounter, but a passion and a desire. something that pushed through all the boundaries and defied who their characters were. the way stiles trusted derek despite everything he assumed about him because he knew in his gut that he could. how derek comforted and defended stiles against his nature to distrust and push out everyone, to the point where stiles became his anchor. the way stiles kept up his investigation papers on his crime board after ‘clearing his mind’, but got rid of everything else. when stiles knew derek needed comfort as boyd died in his arms, but knew nothing he could say or do would help and simply squeezed his shoulder which meant more than he knew. when derek was threatening stiles in the pool, but as soon as the kanima showed up he put himself between them and told him to run. how stiles was the one he went to when he was on the run and showed up in his room. the way stiles was always defending derek, even when he wasn’t there and always suggested they ask him for help. and the one we all know all too well. when derek was human and dying, stiles looked at him and went to run to him but derek told him no, to go save scott. stiles didn’t stop and look back once, but twice! he hesitated twice before derek finally convinced him to go after scott. he was willing to sacrifice his knowledge of the safety of his best friend than watch this man he had unknowingly been falling in love with die. this went beyond the enemies to friends to lovers trope. this was enemies to friends to soulmates. and yet...none of it was even intentional by the writers. everything we see that embodies sterek beyond their lines, all of those looks, touches, and tensions are from tyler and dylan. they put them there because ‘it felt right’ in their own words. they created this dynamic for us, this story and development. teen wolf was supposed to be about scott and his life adjusting to being a werewolf, but it was really about stiles in my opinion. the best friend who fought at scott’s side, despite being human. the fighter who saved lydia, not only from herself but from death. the lover who showed empathy to derek when everyone else showed hate and saw through his facade. the kid who defended the weak and fought for those who couldn’t fight for themselves. who sacrificed himself and the things he loved for people who were less deserving time and time again. who stared death in the face and said “are you threatening me?” the boy who saw the void and still found his way back to the light. the man who was forgotten but defied all logic and understanding and was remembered, the detective who always figured everything out and was right every time. the child who trusted too much, yet not enough. loved too hard, yet too softly. felt too deeply, or too little. the boy who ran with wolves.
