Laain’s voice jolted him from the endless video loop in his head. “M’alright,” he finally muttered, his eyes still wide and his breathing now gone shallow. After a few seconds, he forced himself to deeply inhale and then slowly exhale it out to calm himself. “I just saw the face of one of the men who attacked me.” He blinked rapidly: trying to set the man’s face into his memory banks, but then trying to momentarily wipe the awful scene away from his mind.
Laain frowned, he didn’t seem that alright to her but she stayed by his side until he seemed to calm down. “Oh! I’m sorry. That really must have been a shock.” She put a comforting hand on his shoulder and smiled softly. “But you’re okay now. But...um...do you feel like reporting it?” She wouldn’t push it if he really didn’t want to.
The Doctor nodded. “S’part of the reason I travel alone these days,” he admitted. “At some point it becomes dangerous for my companions, and I either lose them or the leave. I can’t say I blame them, really. Thank you for the tea, by the way –”
Another shard of memory sliced through his mind: a face. A man with pale skin, blond hair, green eyes. Pain ricocheting through his back, followed by the cold, rigid surface of the wall he’d been slammed against. Words hissed up from the darkness. Gimme your wallet, you fuckin’ freak. He froze, as the scene looped inside his head.
“I see.” she said nodding a bit. “I’m sorry they leave you though and that you lose them...”
She was about to speak again when the Doctor seemed to freeze in his spot. “Hey are you alright?” she asked worried. “Do you need to sit down?” She couldn’t have him passing out on the floor. She moved closer to him so she could help him.
The Doctor chuckled. “A bit hard to believe, isn’t it?” he asked. “No worries – that’s the sort of response I tend to get. And sugar with a little milk is fine.”
He stepped forward just a bit and watched Laain make the tea as he continued to speak. “Time Lords and Ladies can live to be quite old,” he explained. “We’re naturally long-lived to begin with, and if we suffer fatal injuries we regenerate. Each time, you get a new face, body, the whole works. A Time Lord or Lady is capable of doing this twelve times in their life – and if one lives a very long time in each regeneration and avoids dying unnecessarily, it is possible for one to live over thousands of years, or even indefinitely.”
“So,” he continued. “I’ve regenerated ten times up until now. So that, Laain, is how I am 906 years old.” He grinned. “Would probably still be on my first incarnation now if I didn’t have a penchant of finding trouble.” His grin faded, and he glanced up a moment before looking back at Laain. “Or it finding me.”
She nodded as she poured up the hot water into a cup before getting the sugar and milk while the tea steeped.
That was a lot to take in and she wondered why he was telling her that much about himself. Yes she was curious and amazed, but on his end she was just a stranger. However she was thankful for the explanation because it would drive her mad not knowing.
“That’s really strange...but really fascinating!” she said with a bright smile. “Though that’s a lot of times already.” She frowned slightly. “You really find trouble that much? Deadly trouble?” Though considering how she found him she guessed she couldn’t be too surprised.

The house of Blyledge was Prydonian but was ancient and predated Rassilon and the Looms so it's possible they bred with some Ceruleans.

Gallifreyan Biology - Regeneration (pt.1*)
*there is far, far too much information on regeneration to combine into a single post!
Regeneration was the biological process by which Gallifreyans could prevent death, and was usually caused by severe injury or trauma. However, it could also be consciously invoked, stalled or stopped altogether.
A single regeneration could last for several hundred years, without showing any signs of aging, and altogether a Gallifreyan could live almost indefinitely. For the first eight years of their lives, Gallifreyans would age at the same rate of a human: the aging process would then slow, meaning that a 90-year old Gallifreyan was still considered a child. Each individual was granted a single regeneration cycle, which typically allowed a total of 12 regenerations.
Forced regeneraton served as a form of punishment, and was extremely painful.
ORIGINS
Rassilon was believed to have first developed the regeneration process during an experiment involving self-replicating biogenic molecules (aka the Immortality Virus, the Legacy of Rassilon, or nanites). He then perfected the method, yet only granted the gift of regeneration to the most elite members of Gallifreyan society - these individuals would later become the Time Lords. It was thought that Rassilon administered the ability to regenerate through the addition of the third strand of DNA to the Gallifreyan genome, which stores regenerative information.
Regeneration may also have been brought about within the species due to prolonged exposure to the Untempered Schism.
THE PROCESS
Regeneration was triggered by the secretion of the lindos hormone. As this hormone travels through the body it weakens the bonds between cells, which results in a period of hallucination as the body loses solidity. Cells within an individual undergoing regeneration were realigned, and errors could occur within the mutating DNA - these resulted in the change in physical appearance. Changes in personality were brought about by the regeneration of the cells within the brain. However, it was only the ‘nurture’ aspects of personality (aspects that had been gained through experience) that were affected, while the ‘nature’ aspects remained the same. This would suggest that all personalities expressed by an individual across their regenerations were merely variations of their fundamental personality. Though the vast majority of Gallifreyans retained the typical humanoid shape after regenerating, it was theoretically possible to adopt any form.
A huge release of Artron energy could occur during regeneration, which was dangerous and harmful to any bystanders.
A self-administered electroencephallic shock would usually revive the individual after regeneration, though occasionally it failed.
After-effects of regeneration could include:
amnesia (both short- and long-term)
muscle spasms
confusion
loss of motor-control
unconsciousness
violent or erratic behaviour (aka Ambient Complexity)
These effects could be lessened if the individual was placed within a Zero Room, where all outside interference was removed. TARDISes were also known to ease the regeneration process.
Conversely, regeneration could also provide several short-lived advantages, such as increased strength and the ability to regrow limbs.
Gallifreyan Geography - The Capitol
aka The Citadel or Gallifrey (not to be confused with the planet as a whole)
The Capitol was Gallifrey’s most important city, located on the Continent of Wild Endeavour in a valley between the Mountains of Solace and Solitude, and was home to the majority of Time Lords. It was encased by a huge transparent dome, and Time Lords spent most of their lives within it, rarely venturing outside. In the Old Times the Capitol had a harbour, but it fell out of use when the surrounding lake dried up.
The Capitol was split into three sections:
The Citadel The hourglass-shaped, dimensionally transcendental centre of the Capitol. It was the location for most living quarters, and was divided into levels. The Citadel housed the Presidents Office; a Time Travel Embarkation Port; the centre for Traffic Control; the Panoptican Archives; Temporal Scanning HQ; the Presidential Wheel, surrounded by 363 white towers; a Zero Room; the Junior Senate Block; the Jasdisary Building, HQ of the Chancellery Guard; Security Control HQ; and the Oubliette Suites, where prisoners were held.
MidTown Home to the non-Time Lord classes, such as technicians and artisans.
LowTown Where the poorest and lowest classes lived, in the old foundations of the Capitol. It housed the only brothels on Gallifrey. Inhabitants of LowTown referred to Time Lords as ‘Timeys’, and were looked down on by almost all other inhabitants of the Capitol.
BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES
Most of the structures in the Capitol were made of stone, and were accessed by retinal scans.
The Panopticon
a six-sided meeting hall, designed to allow members of all Chapters to debate with each other
The Time Academy
a miniature city that branched off from the Capitol. It served to teach Time Lord initiates after they leave the Chapter Academies
The Caldera
a chamber underneath the Panopticon, which housed the Eye of Harmony
The Council Chambers
where members of the High Council met
Patrex Academy Lodges
The Scaph Port
where Time Capsules were docked
Penansulix Scientific Structure
The Parachronistic Chamber
where temporal distortions could be monitored
Canonicity and Likelihood
towers located in the North of the Capitol. The Bureau of Possible Events was located in one of these towers
The Artron Forum
a chamber where Time Lords could become involved in telepathic debate. The excess artron energy from the telepathic communication was filtered out and used to fuel TARDISes
Multidimensional Art Gallery
The Capitol Library
The Mortal Coil
a hospital complex
Bureau of Political Advancement
The Temple of Capitol Guilds
Office of Public Registry
The Administrative Complex
The Communications Tower
The Pazithi Cloisters
The Nostrom Cloisters
TRANSPORT
Due to its size, various methods of transport were required in order to navigate the Capitol.
The Vault/Duct System
a series of abandoned tunnels located underground
Aircars
usually used by Council members
The Transmat System
as well as serving as internal transport, transmats linked the Capitol to the Death Zone and the Great Houses
The Transtube
similar to a railway system
Skimmers
ships resembling longboats, with carved dragons on the stern. They could travel both on water and through air, and were powered by energy collected in their golden sails
Gallifreyan Fauna
Though the Time Lords themselves were the dominant species, Gallifrey was also home to a variety of other creatures. In all of the planet’s existence, not a single native species became extinct - this is most likely due to Time Lord intervention in some way.

Gallifrey - An Introduction
Gallifrey was a planet located approximately 30,000 light years from Earth in the constellation of Kasterborous. It was home to the Time Lords.
The other known planets in the system are Karn, Polarfrey and Kasterborous the Fibster. Gallifrey itself has two suns - the secondary sun is named Pogar, and was artificially created by the Time Lord Omega. Because of the two suns, Gallifreyan nights are relatively short.
Literally, the name ‘Gallifrey’ means “They That Walk in the Shadows”, in reference to the idea that as a species, Gallifreyans are perpetually caught between the ‘light’ of science and the 'dark’ of magic.
In terms of landscape, Gallifrey was dryer than earth and appeared rust-coloured from space; less than half of its surface was water. The lakes were gold or brown and the clouds were grey, while plants varied in colour: grasses could be crimson, and trees could be green or silver. Wind blowing through these trees created a musical effect. The transduction barrier gave the sky an orange hue, also frequently filling the sky with multicoloured lights, and the rising suns gave the forests the appearance of being on fire. The terrain varied from mountain ranges to deserts to vast forests, and despite its dry climate, fields covered much of the area surrounding the Capitol.

No species of animal ever went extinct on Gallifrey, presumably due to the Time Lords’ influence. Native fauna included flutterwings, woprats, trunkikes, yaddlefish, flubbles, tafelshrews, plumboles and rovies. There were few large organisms other than the Gallifreyans themselves and the Gargantosaurs, dinosaur-like creatures that had lived on Gallifrey in the past.
Gallifreyan Chapters
Gallifreyan society was split into six Chapters: Prydon Chapter, Patrex Chapter, Arcal Chapter, Drome Chapter, Scendeles Chapter and Cerulean Chapter.
Prydonians were known as plotters and decision makers
Patrexes were artists, and were responsible for archiving and cataloging information
Arcalians were known to always side with the winners, and were generally unsociable
Dromeians were beaurocrats and academics
Scendeles were beaurocrats and academics
Ceruleans were beaurocrats and academics
The six Chapters corresponded with the six founders of Time lord society - Rassilon, Omega, the Other, Apeiron, Pandak and one other.
Each Chapter had its own Academy, into which students were initiated at the age of 8. Members of each Chapter Academy wore the corresponding robes. For example, Prydonian students wore scarlet and orange, Patrexes wore heliotrope, Arcalians wore green and brown, Dromeians wore silver-grey, Scendeles wore subdued colours and Cereuleans wore light blue.
Each Chapter could contain no more than 100 full Time Lords at any one time, as well as a total of 400 trainee and apprentice Time Lords. Changing Chapters was forbidden, though if a Time Lord joined the CIA (Celestial Intervention Agency) they would lose all association with their Chapter. A certain number of Great Houses (also known as Chapterhouses) served each Chapter. For example, two Houses within the Prydon Chapter were the House of Lungbarrow and the House of Oakdown.
In terms of politics, the strongest was the Prydon Chapter, as it held the most politically powerful Houses and produced more Presidents than all other Chapters combined; Rassilon himself was Prydonian. The Arcalian Chapter was the second strongest, with the other Chapters possessing little political power.
On the High Council, each Chapter was represented by a Cardinal. In the Panoptican, the Capitol’s debating chamber, each of the six sides represented one Chapter. In an attempt to outcompete the other Chapters in building the largest statue of their founder within the Panopticon, the Scendles Chapter became bankrupt.
