The ITR was made into a long document with 14 pages and tax filers were jittery and probably looking at opportunities to escape the tax axe somehow. However this is hardly a possibility as we all know the inevitable – ‘The only things permanent in life are Death and Taxes.’

However recently, the taxman decided to do away with these complications in the ITR.  The ITR is soon going to be back to being a simple 2-3 page form with less complications. So what really was the intention of making it a long winding document? If we rewind our memories and go back to the election days last year, we will be able to remember the one BIG promise that was made by our then future PM Mr Narendra Modi. The promise was that he would bring back all the black money and put it to a rightful use of nation development. Now this is what the renovated ITR sought to capture. The possible grey areas that might get highlighted by asking for numerous details from every tax payer through a 14 page long form loaded with questions on foreign visits and various bank account details.
