@itslikeababywithamustache did somebody say mermaid au
bOI, IāVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS NON-STOP SINCE THEN, ITāS TIME TO ROLL OUT THIS META.
-Donald and Douglas are marine biologists/geneticists, top of their field. They work as partners, studying the extremes of ocean life to find benefits for humans, medicines, and even other ocean life. Seeing if they can borrow attributes from one species to help another survive pollution and climate change. Itās the new radical thing theyāre working on.
-Until Donald discovers that Douglas has been going behind his back and creating actual fish people, something he hadnāt even realized was possible.
-He steals the three hybrid children away to his mansion by the ocean (so like, his mansion basically, Iām pretty sure itās on an ocean cliff in the show). His lab has a large pool connected to the ocean by a gate where he usually has dolphins or rays recuperating/studying. He keeps them there. Modifies it a bit for them.
-itās a week before he learns they can speak. Heās feeding them one day when the only one with actual legs (heās pretty sure itās the oldest), asks for candy.
((Iām guessing thatās the one thatās Adam, plz let me know if Iām wrong, Iām bad with faces to begin with so reconstructions can fool me, but Iām going by Chase having the magic so))
-Douglas fakes his death with a whirlpool instead of a volcano after they have a fight about his actions in the middle of the ocean.
-Heās saved by his āmermaid boyfriendā, aka Krane, who he injects with his marine gene experiments. It works a little differently, changing after birth instead of being hybrid from birth. He breathes, swims, and eats like it, and has greater strength. He also glows sometimes. Unevenly. Itās both sad and terrifying. He looks mostly human though, but his appearance slowly changes over the years. Very slowly. Again, sad but terrifying.
-meanwhile Donald has taken over the roll of ādadā without realizing it. He never lets them leave the house cove for fear of them being discovered, but he swims with them daily and has created his own wheelchairs for Bree and Chase to explore outside of it. He didnāt really have a choice, they complained when Adam would just stroll out and about.
-he still keeps the occasional animal when needed, the children love to talk and play with them (realizing they could actually communicate with other ocean creatures was a Surpriseā¢, but he rolled with it, it helped diagnose sometimes anyway)
-when they get older, they realize they have magic. Little things, mostly, like controlling small amounts of water or enchanting small fish and crabs to follow them around or help them.
-Donald made sure to sit them all down and talk about that one, no making innocent beings do things against their will for fun.
-they each also had their own talents. Bree was an extremely fast swimmer. Adam was super strong. Chase could control bigger areas of water and create bubbles like shields.
-he was also more susceptible to his āfish instinctsā than the other two, giving into the strains of more aggressive fish in his DNA.
-aka Spike
-the biggest thing they all could do was make themselves human (until they touched ocean water again anyway).
-Donald nearly had a heart attack walking in that day to three human children that looked like his.
-there may have been some screaming involved. Just a little.
-Or a lot.
-then Donald met Tasha and Leo
-plz imagine the original meeting but in water with terrified splashing bc Leo thought his new dad had an epic pool and just dived right in.
-que more screaming.
-when they sneak off to school with Leo, they find out that even though theyāre āhumanā, they still have their powers. Oopsā¢.
-Dewey Dingo needs therapy.
-Chase develops his higher knack for magic later on. Including being able to, wait for itā¦
-turn Leo into a mermaid.
-Leoās freaking excited.
-itās not permanent, Chase has to undo it and redo it every time. But they all get to go on epic ocean adventures together.
-when he loses his arm (and then leg), Douglas uses regenerative DNA from starfish to regrow his limbs. Using their research for what it was originally meant for.
-it has some side effects though, one being he has to āwet itā occasionally or it feels dried out and stiff. Once a day is usually good enough.
-Krane goes after them because he wants to create an evil mermaid empire and feels theyāre a threat.
-they kick his wannabe ass.
And this is what Iāve been thinking about instead of focusing on prompts. Youāre welcome.
Also i just wanna add that I love that Chase is a seahorse??? Perfection.

He calls Donald Big D, but letās be honest, no one on this show has more big d energy than Leo āZero Fkksā Dooley
Donald: ok, kids, my brother and I have been arguing about this for a while and we think itās time to settle this once and for all.
Douglas: whoās the better dad?
Adam, Bree, and Chase, not missing a beat: Tasha.

ITāS TRUE AND THEY SHOULD SAY IT

I always had this headcanon that Kaz has, like 1000 pet names he uses for Chase, without warning, and normally Chase just rolls his eyes and moves on with life but sometimes Kaz uses extra sweet and/or mushy names (like, my love, darling, sweetheart, ect.) and Chase needs to process it for a minute because he's SO USE to being mocked that whenever Kaz compliments him by using nicknames he gets flustered, and idk what are your thoughts on this?
Chase getting complimented always strokes his ego bc esteem issues, but when Kaz does it he just. Chase.exe has stopped working.
Because even when it just a passing, āHey, babeā Kaz always says it so....honestly. Like itās the most obvious truth in the universe. āOf course I call Chase sweetheart, why wouldnāt I???ā
And so when Kaz really puts effort into the nicknames, making them as mushy gushy lovey dovey as he possibly can, Chase just straight up dies like a lovesick anime girl. Which of course just makes Kaz do it more.
Skylar: *looking at Chase and Kaz* I spy with my little eyeā¦something that starts with an S.
Oliver: Superheroes?
Bree, deadpan: Sexual tension.
All your āKylo Ren thisā and āSeverus Snape thatā
Meanwhile youāve all been ignoring the only good redemption arc of the decade
I know a lot of the Kase Beginnings hcs areĀ āthey figure it out together in secretā sorta thing, but I have another proposition:
Kaz approaches Bree, after multiple failed attempts of flirting with Chase, to ask how best to get her brotherās attention.
Alternatively, Bree approaching Kaz after seeing the multiple failed attempts of flirting with Chase, and going,Ā āYouāre going about this all wrong and itās honestly painful to watch, hereās some notes.ā
However it starts, just. Bree helping Kaz get together with Chase. Giving him suggestions on date ideas. Presents. Jokes Chase will get/appreciate. Super lame science pick up jokes sheās sure will get her brotherās attention. Expanding the Kaz/Bree Friendship and showing that Bree actually does know a lot about her brotherās interests, even though she pretends not to.
And when they do get together, she takes a sneaky selfie in front of them kissing, pointing and sporting a proud smirk, with the caption,Ā āI made this.ā and sends to Adam and Leo.
Chase doesnāt figure out any of her involvement until years later. He just thought Kaz was that awesome.
How many piggyback rides did Bree give her brothers growing up? She and Chase are so sure of their movements when he hops on I feel like theyāve definitely done this many times before.
Just. Little Chasey flying around on his big sisterās back. Imagine that.
Oh god guys.
What if when Oliverās complaining about babies one time Kaz is just like āWhy do you even do this, youāve given birth to babies before! You werenāt complaining about kneecaps then!ā And Oliver just shouts back āThose were spiders, it was totally different!ā
And Bree and Chase are just sitting there like
sorry about these (iām not and iām probably gonna make more)
I hate that on Lab Rats they constantly tease Chase about not being able to fly but like have you even read comic books!? Oliver and Kaz should at least know that telekinetics, (which is what Chase is), can levitate themselves as well as objects. Jean Grey from X-Men for example. It really annoys me because I feel like Chase is the one loaded with powers, not Bree and Skylar. All his āappsā make practically anything possible and he is beyond smart enough to figure that out. Plus, this makes Disney look bad because you are teaching kids that the smart kid is worthless and that teasing the smart kid is okay⦠Not to mention repressing the smart kids who look up to Chase as a role model. Bullying much? IDK I hate that Chase is undervalued and underused.
anyway yeah this has always annoyed me so much like Chaseās powers are SO underused in the show. like he could control the molecules that make up everything so literally he could control water. he can move rocks and weapons and whatever with his goddamn mind. and literally in bionic island and elite force the only power he ever used was his freaking laser bo which is arguably his least powerful ability; his force fields are way more powerful than theyāre made out to be and his magnetism app is so much more useful than it seems. and also like? hello? heās a super genius? even disregarding what he could potentially do he already does so much for the team and they never give him credit for it like!! he got skylarās freaking powers back!! he found the way to contact the superheroes and he helped design the suits and he set up the security in the hq and he never gets any credit for any of it!! least important member of the team my ass.
THANK YOU. Iām glad others think he deserves more credit and recognises he actually has a lot of potential.
lab rats childhood headcanons
Douglas definitely went through an emo phase
Once, Donald gave Bree light-up sketchers for Christmas and she didnāt take them off for five years
Growing up, Adam, Bree, and Chase used to go onĀ ācamping tripsā in the lab: trying to sleep in tents, turning off all the lights and gathering around a lamp, telling ghost stories, singing songs, in general just REALLY using their imagination
(Chase being super descriptive talking about the forest around them, Adam on the lookout for bears, Bree swatting at fake bugs, the works)
The only āfunā movies/TV (non-educational) that the lab rats were allowed were allowed to watch were the following:
Shark Man and Flipper Boy (Chaseās favorite)
the High School Musical trilogy (Breeās favorite)
where she got all her unrealistic ideas about high school from
Goober the Spunky Caboose (Adamās favorite)
Pig Zombies (no one but Donald liked these movies)
Leo Dooley was THE coolest kid in elementary school with all his trading cards, DS, and super hero comics, kids always crowding around to see his gadgets at recess and lunchtime.
He didnāt start to get bullied until middle school when theĀ ācool stuffā turned into iphones and other expensive tech, which he didnāt have, and his stuff became nerdy.
Because of this, Leo has grown to associate popularity/likability with material wealth, which is part of the reason why heās so ecstatic to accept Mr. Davenport as his dad at the beginning of the series and move into his house
Tasha was a popular cheerleader all throughout high school and she dated fellow squad member Fiona Mickeljock until college
Donald missed both of his high school proms for studying
Chase used have sensory overload meltdowns often as a child due to his bionic hearing. Even after Mr. Davenport made his capsuleĀ āsoundproof,ā he couldnāt sleep without additional ear plugs and noise-canceling headphones. He didnāt fully adjust to background noise until puberty.
Adam and Bree played theĀ āquiet gameā whenever their loud rambunctiousness became too much for Chase, Mr. Davenport chipping in with aĀ āSee, this is why you canāt leave the lab.ā
Leo used to sleepwalk a lot as a kid, the weirdest instance being one night when he walked outside just to water the plants
The only kinds of pets that Leo was allowed to have growing up were hamsters and goldfish, of which he had many. He took great care of them too, a true responsible pet owner.
Hide-and-seek was no fun for Adam bc Bree could search the entire square inch of the lab in a second, and Chase could simply track his GPS
Adam wanted a dog so bad that Mr. Davenport gave him a dog stuffed animal for Christmas (are you sensing a pattern here), which he still has
*Adam ended up with a stuffed animal collection.
*Not really childhood but Bree stopped buying the ugly baby doll whatevers after she first saw Monster High dolls when Adam dragged her to Toys R Us. She then proceeded to use her superspeed to go to San-Diego Comic Con in order to get the con-exclusive dolls.
*Chase used to be scared of the dark until he was about 6/7- an irrational fear because of his super smarts, it deviated from the subconscious memory of Douglasā lab not being very well lit/something like that.
*Although he never told them about Santa, Donald always celebrated chanukah with them, and that was one of the few occasions they were allowed to be upstairs, and Donald started letting Adam help him make the lattkas which was Adamās favorite part- along with lighting a larger menorah Donald built to use taper candles so it would be safer for Adam to use his heat vision to light it.
*Adam had a tendency to chew on stuff to stim (autistic!Adam), of course he was at least smart enough to know not to swallow stuff; Donald has to always replace pens and pencils because of Adamās chewing.
*Adam and Bree both loved playing Dress up, and Donald might have cried when Adam grew up enough to almost fit in his (Donaldās) shirts that he had donated to the dress up pile when they got too worn out to wear to work.
*When Chase was a baby he was allergic to eggs and Donald was actually close to having a heart attack, not just the expression, the first time Chase had an allergic reaction.
some underappreciated ālab ratsā jokes
- in āspace colonyā when they confront krane and theyāre like āha! we found youā and heās like ā⦠the entire colony is one square mileā and adam goes āwelllll we walked that mile and we found you.ā
- when trent graduates and leoās like āheās societyās problem now!!ā
- āwe canāt find mr. davenport!ā ādid you look carefully? heās a small man. he could be hiding behind a house plant. or perhaps a family-sized can of tomatoes.ā
- āitās called levitation. look it up. i had to.ā
- i forget when/why he said it but when adam tells mr. davenport āwe all like you but we think tasha could have done betterā
