Congrats Keynin Carl Battle on another accomplishment! Two years ago Keynin graduated from Lewis & Clark High School, last week & yesterday he graduated programs that help different learners see college as an option. These programs provided encouragement and support so he could take college level photography classes. I’m so proud of Keynin and how he works through every challenge, he never uses the challenges he was born with as a deterrent, he just works harder. More to come... I’m glad I get a front seat. Thank you everyone who helped this 16 year old kid raise this kick ass human. This is the results of a caring, committed and loving family. We are us because of you! This is #feminism. This is #privilege. This is #freedom. In this simple act of chaperoning a 5th grade field trip feminism, privilege and freedom are all represented. This is how these realities show up in everyday situations. Feminism is about choices it’s about regardless of being a female identified human you can access and experience any opportunity that fills your soul. You can stay home and provide invaluable care and support for your family or we can can take a career path that climbs the corporate ladder. We can also have both if we so choose. Feminism is not about being better, it’s about female presenting humans being treated equal in all situations as male identified humans. It’s acknowledging that their was a time in life where we female presenting humans did not have access and could not persue our hearts desire and blatantly controlled and limited by our gender presentation. This is also priviledge. I have priviledge that I am able to aggressively persue my career and still be an engaged mother. It’s a privilege that school was easy for me and I was able to pursue higher ed. This allowed me to have a career path that afforded me paid time off so that can I can take time off for a field trip and it not hinder my family financially. I also look like the gender I feel I am, this too always me to move through life with less challenges. (It would take another post to even touch on how the way I look has opened doors for me, I’ll put it this way I’m a POC with light skin and I was in social service) These are just a few of my privileges. Freedom is being able to identify inequalities and privileges so that we can address them as a community. So more people can go on field trips with their 5th grader. (at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge)
