What are Drift & Wyld's favorite foods and hobbies?
Oooo! A fun one! Alrighty, but just know that I'm going to be addressing Canon offshoot Drift instead of Murder Partners AU, mostly because I've already answered that one a tad.
We'll start off with Drift and with foods. Just like his AU counterpart, offshoot Drift loves Dandelion Soup. It's among a short list of things he knows how to make himself, but unfortunately he hasn't really had the chance to have much of it since coming to hell on account of Hell's more...peculiar plant life. PB&J and muffins are other comfort foods for him, again that he knows how to make himself. Otherwise, he's a huge fan of ice cream (esp the Vox veet), and he will never say no to anything Wyld makes him.
He's got a few hobbies in common with his AU counterpart again, like the journaling and reading. He tries to diary everything down best he can. He games, specifically arcade games like Asteroids. He also likes to draw, though mostly things like dragons, dinosaurs, and cowboys. Speaking of, anything Wyld does, Drift wants to do. This usually involves a lot of camping, haha. He's not the best at the nitty gritty details, but he's been improving quite a bit.
However, his one and true love is anything mechanical, fixing, rewiring, and retooling just about anything he can get his hands on. Cars, especially, are his forte. And to that end, one might call driving one of his favorite pass times as well.
Now for Wyld. Well, most of his favorite foods aren't things we may recognize, since he was born and raised in Hell and particularly in Wrath. There's 'equivalents' which are as close to them as can be understood. For example, Wyld likes corn bread, but the corn bread he eats would melt the tongue off of a regular person, haha. He's also big into game meals, something he hunted and cooked for himself, usually but not exclusively over a firepit. Similar concept with fishing, though with a strong preference for river and lake fish. He's not much of a sweet tooth, but he can make a really good apple pie as well, even to Drift's standards. He's a pretty darn good cook and baker, in honesty, owed to him by a particularly interesting family he met. And it's a good thing too because, between him and Striker, someone had to learn something aside from stew after all.
As for hobbies...well, that's a toughie. Namely because Wyld probably wouldn't call them that, and would more or less consider them 'survival skills'. He's outdoorsy, so anything involving that is something he's happy to indulge in: camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, shooting, etc.
He does have other hobbies though, but these are thing he probably wouldn't consider first and foremost when asked about what he likes to do, and are more habitual. Like Drift, Wyld has a journal, but it's a naturalist journal, meant to help himself keep tract of things like which wild plants are useful and for what. He might also keep some pressed flowers in those pages, for practical refence. He draws in there as well, but more sketches of real things than artistry drawing. Again like Drift, he's a pretty darn avid reader, but his genre tends to lean towards historical fiction and nonfiction.
However! There is one thing that he would probably say is his absolute favorite thing to do: riding. There is very little he loves more than hopping atop Matchbox and chasing that sunset. Matchbox himself is probably Wyld's favorite 'hobby'. He loves that horse.
Again, these were some fun questions! Thanks so much for the ask! Cheers!
Wow Wyld had it rough I read the fic and it’s impressive he’s so strong a life like that can brake people my oc eclipse had a pretty tragic childhood she can relate does he have PTSD? Eclipse certainly does but is overall a sweet quirky person.
Well first off, thanks for checking it out! Still in the process of writing it, but it means a lot to know you guys are enjoying the ride so far <33
Now, as for the question. That is a difficult one to answer. Like so many things, PTSD can have a number of different expressions and nuances, how it appears in one individual is not concurrent with other expressions necessarily. I personally try not to say specific diagnoses in my writings, and leave it up to a reader's interpretations. I may have an idea of what I want certain characteristics to appear like, but I'm far from an authority on the subject of said conditions to be able to suggest with any certainty.
As for Wyld specifically, part of the explorations of his hardships are due to how I wanted to keep with the theme that Helluva Boss was suggesting with it's other characters. Namely, that there is a breaking (or attempted breaking) of cyclical patterns of damaged interrelationships, specifically with regards to family. Blitz's unconditional love and overprotectiveness of Loona breaks from his own experience of conditional concern and disregard from his father. Blitz's dad sold him for pocket change and guilted his son into, potentially, angering a very powerful demon family despite potential consequences. Contrary, Blitz is there the second Loona needs him, no questions asked. Then there's Stolas' attempt to be better than his own father with Octavia. It a continued storyline that the main characters are using their experience to learn from and be better than what came before.
Wyld's hardships do something similar, setting him up to be better to people he cares about because he knows what it was like for him when there was no one in his corner. Loyalty is everything to him. This applies both to Striker and also to Drift. Drift right now is in a state of flux, both of his dads are not great people and both completely dysfunctional when it comes to relationships, to include Drift. He has to do a lot of the legwork to make these guys open up, and they don't make it easy. Wyld's part in this is that he is that buffer, where the buck ends, shall we say, if Al or Vox take things to far with Drift. He's not about to let Drift's 'parentals' act out in a way that would hurt Drift in any regard. Thus, Wyld breaks from his own experiences with his folks; he will be there for Drift at the drop of a hat, and nothing and no one is going to stand in his way. A heaven help them if Vox or Al even so much as suggested they might punish Drift the 'old fashioned way', haha.
But yeah, thanks again so much for taking the time! <3 Eclipse sounds very interesting, hope to hear more about them sometime!
Alright you did a breakdown of hazbin's teaser trailer. What did you think of Helluva Boss season 3's teaser? Also did you see the clip drop? Striker shows up.
Oh I did see the new clip! Leaves a lot to be excited for! I guess a spoiler warning for anyone who didn't see the teaser clip or teaser trailer and wants to remain unspoiled. You have been warned!
Alright, let's start with the clip because it's much shorter. First and foremost, love to see Striker coming back into the frame, especially here. I was expecting that he stayed in Stolas' mind moreso than we had seen in the past, considering he views Blitz's words to him in season 2 as being parallel to Striker's own. This at least suggests that he thinks of him, and the clip itself goes onto further parallel Blitz and Striker within Stolas' psyche, quite literally swapping one out from the other. It feels like a hint that the season might be tackling that theme at some point, showing off Blitz and Striker's similarities and differences, particularly in Stolas' perspective.
However, I will say this, Stolas' concept of both Blitz and Striker is not how they actually are. It's simply his perspective of them. His 'perfect' Blitz rides horses, is suave, and uses the class distinction between them as a type of roleplay. Striker, in his worst nightmare, is like a slasher villain, appearing from nowhere and delighting in sadistic glee throughout. In actuality, we have no idea if Blitz even knows how to ride a horse, despite taking lessons in Wrath, haha. He's suaveness is a skin deep coating of bravado that hides a very pained person underneath. And the class distinction wasn't roleplay to him, it was the framework for how he understands the world, and the societal pressures he had faced thus far. Striker, like Blitz, really wasn't acting like this when he had Stolas bound. He was caught off guard, prone to emotional outbursts, and really didn't actually smile while hurting Stolas, looking nearly pained himself in Western Energy. I am quietly hoping for Striker's story to be addressed in season 3, even if it's used as a comparison to Blitz. There's something very interesting to me there about the foiling of these two.
Further, there was the underlying suggestion found in the fantasy itself, in that it is a fantasy. It is the machinations of Stolas' mind at play, and in them he continues to adore that idealized, romance novel vision of love and reality stands as a sharp contrast that makes him somewhat dejected. The emphasis on the contrast is there, clearly, suggesting to me that perhaps they will tackle Stolas finding out what 'love' means in reality, especially when he has Millie and Moxxie to serve as potential counterweights. Is it wonderful and passionate? Absolutely. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Even the M&Ms have issues, one potentially being the reaction towards the baby news, but there is no such thing as love without working through the tough stuff, because that is the test of love. Though Stolas would prefer his 'perfect world', perhaps being among IMP and getting to know a less idealized version of Blitz will allow him to be happier in the long run, the escapism finding itself rooted in something real rather than behind the pages of his books.
Alrighty then, let's take a quick look at the teaser trailer.
So, there is a lot of emphasis about a party. IMP appears to be sneaking into it pretending to be the help, given that Blitz is shown doing some cat burglar rope hanging, and later driving up to what appears to be Stolas' old house in a disguised van. Stolas himself looks to be in his regalia, his more typical outfit, during the event as well, noted by the repeated curtain background. Stella seems to be there yelling 'no' to something as well, likely objecting to Stolas' presence. My assumption is then that this is a party for Via, potentially her 18th birthday in which she assumes Stolas' responsibilities having now become 'an adult'. This is assumedly why we see a split instance of Via in her own royal outfit, complete with an actual crown this time. It looks like Vassago will be there as well, perhaps with a musical number. He and Stolas appear to have a history as well when they were younger (maybe Vassago will end up being the 'fantasy' version of a lover that he envisions, but by then he might chose the 'reality' of Blitz). The majority of the clips seemed centered on this topic, so perhaps it will end up being the midseason finale for season 3.
Other interesting potential episodes that I can see include one that's focused on Blitz and Fizz apparently going to deal with the runaway robo-fizz army created from the one in the run down Loo Loo land. He's accompanied by security as well, meaning that perhaps Ozzie is making good on his word about keeping Fizz away from the outside world in a way. But also, this could potential lead to Fizz feeling a bit too coddled. Hence the want to do something dramatic, like fighting off robot fizz's.
Stolas looks to go down to envy to appear in front of a court of some kind. Given the quick scan of the judge, it could be that Envy is a place of reality shows, and Stolas has found himself on an episode of a 'family court' type show. He may be trying to get visitation rights to Via, which would be my guess.
And then there's other small snippets hinting that we may get more of a backstory for Millie, seeing as she in some sort of snake warrior outfit with her apparent old longer hair look as she cuts down another imp. As well as another quick shot of her looking as if she's fighting a crocodile or alligator possibly on earth or somewhere similar. I'd personally love if we went back to Wrath and saw some more of the worldbuilding, as well as just why Millie got the mindset of 'what imps can/cant do' which Blitz has been getting her out of.
I'll have more to say probably later on when we get more hints, but that's the barebones analysis of what I can decipher so far.
A really fun summer vibes prompt collab with my very good friend @henchy5824 <3 They did the lineart for this lovely piece, I did the render. If you like hazbin, go give them some love guys! They do amazing stuff <33
OK, I feel like I'm missing some crucial information here: what happened between Striker and Wyld?
Ahhhh, well. That is a story onto itself. I really can't say much because spoilers but if you wanna check it out, I'm currently updating Striker and Wyld's fic together! link->here
It goes through a lot of how Striker and Wyld met, and their overall history together, but mind the tags though!
But, as a small aside, something did happen between these two and it's been...a while since they've seen each other. Before Wyld ever met Drift even. And the circumstances were...heartbreaking, to say the least. The reason no context has been shown is because it's not something Wyld would ever openly talk about, even to Drift.
Also, Wyld, currently, doesn't know about IMPs beef with Striker, nor is Striker aware that Wyld works alongside IMP. At least so far. Who knows, that may change ;)
In regards to Murder Husbands, are you going to continue it or is it on hiatus?
Oh, don't worry! Murder Husbands isn't going anywhere. I haven't had as much time as I would like to work on it at the moment, but I have been writing out dialogue and planning future comics in the meantime, I promise ;) I'm hoping to actually get ahead with the next comic series, that way I could post the comics closer together rather than making everybody wait for an update. But rest assured, I'm working on it! <3
How does Wyld feel about being a older brother figure to Drift?
Oooo, interesting! That's a very loaded question on a number of beats! Alright, quick spoiler alert for some things concerning Wyld's backstory from my fic "Go To Heaven for the View".
Addressing the elephant in the room first, Wyld has no idea what a 'big brother' is supposed to feel like/do. He was an only child in a really rough family, growing up in a really rough place. The only person he ever felt was on 'his side' truly was Striker, and they didn't consider each other 'brothers'. They were always 'partners'. He knows what it's like to be admired (though he's pretty bashful about complements because when one's best friend is the roughest toughest bastard in Wrath, you get very used to those words being directed elsewhere). But he's not used to being adored the same way Drift looks at him.
Being anyone's friend is pretty foreign to him. He's only really had one best friend his whole life. There has been others he's liked, for sure, but nothing quite like what he has with Striker and now Drift. He's pretty sure that's what family is supposed to feel like, but it doesn't make it any less strange to him. But Wyld is about as 'ride or die' as it gets for the people he cares about, so he's always going to be in Drift's corner, a job he takes very, very seriously.
That also said, Wyld is keenly aware that he's...probably not the best person for someone to model themselves on, even for Hell. He's a no good bastard, and he accepts that. He doesn't really want Drift to follow in his example, but that doesn't stop Drift from taking after him quite a bit and taking the things he says to particular heart. While Wyld doesn't really care for the 'hero worship' aspect of it, he doesn't exactly go about changing his behavior to set a better example, haha. He doesn't see the good things that Drift takes away from him either, and he'd be even less likely to understand that's where he picked it up from.
For example, Drift's courage, what little he has of it, all comes from Wyld. Much of the reason Drift attributes to why he's in Hell has to do with cowardice and selfishness, in that he chose to run. He's been in Hell long enough to know its easiest, and usually safest, to run. But Wyld digs his heels in, especially for the people he cares about. Including Drift. So, that's something Drift takes to heart, trying to be brave even when he's terrified. Trying to be there for the people he loves and who love him. Because Wyld wouldn't budge if it was him standing there.
So, in short, Wyld is pretty well aware that this whole thing is not his strong suit. He doesn't want to be a role model. He's a prickly pear on a good day. He doesn't even quite know what 'family' is supposed to be. He's completely blind to the good he has to offer. He is stupidly unequipped to be a 'big brother'. But he also knows that Drift's mind is made up, that he's been picked for some reason he doesn't think he deserves. And he wouldn't have it any other way.
(And nobody ever gets to lay a hand on his little brother)
So we know what vox told drift, but does he personally thinks alastor genuinely cares about drift
Ooooo, another toughie! Alright, everybody put the speculation caps on!
I think the point of this would boil down to both if Vox thinks Alastor is capable of 'caring' and what that might look like. Let's run though some points.
In many ways I think that Vox is rational enough to know that there was something there between him and Alastor, even if neither of them would call it 'love' straight and simple. Alastor doesn't have many close friends, not ones that he doesn't own. He thrives in being a bit of a mystery, especially to his fellow overlords. He was scary enough, powerful enough to clean house on a good many of them in the past, and of the mindset to do so. So, Vox, this self admitted up and coming overlord, newly arrived and just starting to find his feet should have been easy bait.
And instead Vox and him went out for drinks. Often. They were together enough where people knew 'them', as Vox states. They knew 'them' as an item, a group, pals, or even simply together. Vox himself came from a life of betraying everyone around him, and he chose to let Alastor in, enough to call him 'a friend'. Despite what he says, Alastor did let Vox get close. Logically, I think Vox knows that, hence why he thought his proposition might be worth the risk. I think he knows that, at some point, they had meant something to each other that was deeper.
That's the logic of it, as in, if Vox was looking at it from a step or two back. But, and especially after season 2, we have to consider Vox's emotional reaction to it as well.
Because friends don't spit in each other's face and curse the term 'friend'. Because people who love you don't boil you down until you feel like there's nothing left to lose. And because Vox does have something kinda soft with the other Vees and, while they may drive each other crazy, they were still willing to put up with him after everything he did to drive them away. Because he has Drift, and that is love unconditional. He knows what caring looks like, what it feels like to be wanted. Alastor didn't give him that.
So, on one hand, I think he knows that Drift is an exception in Alastor's book. He could see the repeating pattern, something nostalgic and sweet, watching as Alastor taught someone else how to dance. Watching him enjoying another's company for the sake of company. A helpless little lost soul happily bouncing behind Alastor's coattails. It's a familiar tune. And he knows logically that if he had been special, Drift probably was too. And prior to season 2's whole saga...he was probably pretty cautiously hopeful.
However, on the other hand...we have the emotional response, one particularly burned at the moment. Which itself seems like another pattern. Alastor's biting words, hissing about how stupid they were to believe he cared. Telling Drift to his face that he was getting rid of him, because he was bored with him. And, more recently, the poking and prodding, from Vox's perspective of it, to get a reaction from Drift. I haven't quite finished with the next comic yet, but Drift is going to be in a way when he gets back to Vee tower from the whole conversation at the hotel...and what kind of person goes out of their way, again in Vox's mind, to torment their own kid for fun? Certainly not one that cares for them in any meaningful way.
If Vox ever took an extra large step back, he'd realize just how much his and Drift's story with Al mirror each other. And he might just notice that Alastor's prodding Drift because...that's exactly what he does to Vox. It's a method to keep the interaction going. But, unlike Vox, Drift isn't going to engage, isn't going to jump to fight. This means if Alastor wants that interaction, he's going to have to incite it, again and again. And he's doing so.
And if he ever took another extra large step back, he might realize that Alastor misses Drift, and that this is the only way he feels like he can interact without admitting to weakness of his own. And if Drift is just like Vox...that Alastor might miss him as well.
But he can't take those steps at the moment. He's rubbed far to raw, and lost too much to consider Alastor's view of anything. Gut reaction will win almost every time when it concerns Alastor at the moment. So, in a way, he kinda both knows he cares and is certain he doesn't.
That said, what Alastor wants from Drift matters little in Vox's head right now. He's still in survival mode emotionally, holding onto what little he has left, which includes Drift. And Alastor is not allowed to break Drift like he had Vox, regardless of what he 'feels'.
