i need to stop going to bed at five in the morning but unfortunately it is in fact the most addictive thing ever </3
anyway i was debating rereading beauty by robin mckinley but decided to start her book deerskin instead ... why do i have a feeling this is going to be one of my all time favourites?
so the feeling was both right and wrong. i really appreciate her writing and a lot of her ideas – especially the ones paying homage to the original fairytale without being on the nose in the way a lot of other retellings are – but i think part one succeeds in a way that puts it a cut above the rest of the book.
i don't exactly know why since her time in the mountains, her travel to the yellow city etc are all things i enjoy, and in any other book, might even have been my favourite parts. however, in this book, part one is so good i almost wish the story had just ended there.
Nothing in the world can truly cure your sadness.
Your looks? You change it = still sad
Your lovelife? Find your soul mate = still sad
Your job? Get your dream job = still sad
The only true happiness you'll experience is from Allah swt, something I always tend to forget.
