WEEK 1/2: An artist that inspires you. I chose Aaron Draplin, a rough around the edges graphic designer who is self made and has now worked on some of my favourite brands and even people in power such as Obama and Bernie Sanders. He is the writer of the one and only book I’ve ever bought and has taught me plenty about colour and shape.

This week we looked deeper into mock-ups and repeat patterns. I’ve done a fair few mockups now but was my first time making a pattern. It’s a mixture of bullets and beer bottles to represent ‘firing blanks’.

With my Mock-Up It was originally a 5 bottle mock that I chopped up and changed, then added my pattern as a background.

WEEK 11:

For homework and to add to our finial presentation we had to mock up a label anatomy diagram for our bottle designs.

Using my PSD mock up I isolated one of the bottles to use to display the front logo and information label on the back of the bottle and have appropriately labeled them.

WEEK 10:

Case Study

Looking at ‘Becherovka’ distillery for this weeks case study. Instantly the polished finish of their product pitch/study was stunning. Doubling up with the use of real product photography and mock ups along side early stage sketches is beautiful to say the least.

I want to explore the software used to create a seamless flowing display, as in not clearly separately designed A4 pages.

WEEK 9: continued

So after many re-do’s and loads of feed back sessions later I think we are way closer to our final look. The biggest improvement is moving the ‘Brewing Co.’ To inside the logo and creates a far cleaner looking piece.

Other main change is a lighter background in a concrete texture, and a drop shadow to pop the logo of the background. Also made the 0% way bigger to push more emphasis towards it :)

WEEK 9:

This week we have been looking at using more then one logo for a brand. My main ‘box’ logo will be used for the bottle itself and main branding, but the smaller round logo will be great for business cards, pocket shirt designs, coasters and much more.

Both follow the same colour theme and complement each other.

Futhermore looking at backround textures for bottles and repeat patters for slides, billboards and more.

Uni Break Work: I turned my original design (on the left) into a vector image in illustrator so it can now be scaled up and down with no quality loss. With printing in mind i took out some of the skin detail on the pig for a more flat colour but looks way sharper and less messy. Also I added detail on the rope to make it look more like a rope then a white line.

WEEK 7: So for our week 7 we have to show what method we used to record our pitch presentation. I’ve never done this before and hate recording myself but after a few goes I think I got it, main thing being staying within the 2 minutes.I went with the Program LOOM due to it doing all recordings at once and easy to save the file.

Week 7: Here are the slides im going to be testing out with for my first attempt at using LOOM to record our pitch presentation. Following these slides will be there label mock ups and that will then become my 4 slides in total.

FIRING BLANKS & PIGS CAN FLY

Whilst both my drink brands are different the reason behind them is very similar in what I was trying to achieve in filling a gap in the market. Both beer brands look at creating a beer that is both flavourful but either low in alcohol content or have 0% alcohol. The reason for this decision is driving is a very social activity but we are far to often stuck with the predicament of drink driving.

Pigs Can Fly is a mid strength beer that is 0.8 standards per bottle which is 1.0 standard on a schooner glass. There is a bog gap in the market in pubs and clubs for a tasty mid strength as the other options are always a larger and this will be a pale ale which will boast far better flavour. I’ve used a sort retro inspired colour palette that is eye catching and easily recognisable alongside with the pig flying with a balloon, these design choices will make it a memorable drink design and therefore hopefully purchased regularly. The reason for the pig with a balloon is due to beer (the pig) being typically quite heavy and the balloon (the light/midstrength) aspect to convey what type of beer it is.

Firing Blanks is a 0% beer. Other then Carlton Zero there is very little well known 0% options for anybody having to drive but still wanting to sit down with friends and family and have a beer. Ive gone for a minimal design approach making sure that not only the logo, but the ‘0% alcohol’ text was quite large and visible to the viewer. I decided to create a 0% beer due to the gap in the market and the ones on the market are just plain larger that offers very little flavour and is quite boring for the consumer, and I hope to change that.

WEEK 6: My 2 final mockups of my two beer brands. Currently now designing the back of the label to create a full wrap around label to go alongside my bottle mock up design.

WEEK 5 HOMEWORK:

To create a comic, meme, product of something that you have learnt whilst doing the design course. I chose to take a spin off the ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ wall decals you find and turn it into the design process.

WEEK 5 Continued:

Here are my ongoing works for my mood boards both for “pigs can fly” brewing co and “firing blanks” brewing co. I did a change from zero alcohol wine to beer to stick with my on going theme and sticking with. my original idea. Both moodboards now have a colour pallet displayed on them which will be useful for future designs of that grand to keep them consistent.

WEEK 3:

First to moodboards of the 2 drink directions with my mid strength beer, in a vintage inspired design. Secondly is a 0% alcohol red wine as there is very little in the market. In my reserch I may even make a 0% beer instead due to the huge rise of Carlton Zero and the market demand for more 0% beer.

WEEK 2:

Sketch note journal and sketch note challenge! In class we had a quick fire sketchnote challenge and then had to create our own sketch note journal.
