Hello and welcome to Lackluster News. Thank you for agreeing to the interview, are you nervous at all?
his thigh was bouncing up and down when he took the seat. hands clasped together, blue hue looking around him before looking at the person in front of him, nodding his head as he heard the question. “quite a bit yeah.”
If you don’t mind, we would love to ask you a series of questions in regards to growing up and family life. Could you tell us about when and where were you born?
“i was born in roxbury, boston. was born june 1923. “
How did your family come to live in Lackluster?
another deep breath was given, before he was running a hand through his hair. he didn’t like where these questions were headed, but he would comply since he was already on thin ice.“i found it with shiloh. heard ‘bout it from my friend marley, and just tagged alon’ with her.”
And how would you best describe your family? Would you say it’s a healthy relationship?
his eyes darken on the question, not wanting to answer it, but again shane needed to comply here. even if the questions were hard to answer.“my ma was an asshole, eh? no wasn’t healthy at all. just me and my ma. and her dru’ dealers. nothin’ healthy ‘bout it.”
What do you now about your family surname(s)?
he shakes his head at the question, his hue looking down at the piece of paper, shrugging hs shoulders as he does.“don’t really care ‘bout my families surname. means nothin’ to me. a name is just a name. doesn’t change what ‘appened.”
Did you have any nicknames while growing up?
a cringe came across his face remembering the names he had when he was younger, none from his ma, but from the drug dealers that came into his bedroom.“i had a lot of nicknames. but they were mostly used in my bedroom.”
Would you say your guardian/parent was more strict or lenient?
a dry chuckle left his lips, as he shakes his head. what kind of question was this? though they didn’t know obviously, so shane wasn’t surprised by the question,.“i’d say my ma was more fucked up in ways she shouldn’t ‘ave been. she was a whore and a dru’ addict and an alcoholic. didn’t give two flyin’ fucks ‘bout me. all i was good for was keepin’ her dealers ‘appy. and by doin’ that, i’d be drugged up, and placed in my bedroom.”
What family member did you look up to the most?
he frowns softly at this question. because his ma wasn’t someone to look up to, neither were the men in his life. he didn’t know his pop for shit, so that was out of the question. there were really only two people he would look up to. perhaps three really.“don’t really look up to my ma. but i’m goin’ to go with shiloh,marley and nyx.”
Do you still own any childhood items or family heirlooms?
he shakes his head at the question, his leg slowly easing it’s jumping up and down as the questions seemed to get a little easier.“never had anythin’ from my childhood, so no.”
What is your favorite childhood memory?
this one made him smile softly, because in truth, it was the easiest question he could answer, and he answered it without hesitation.“when i was able to get my own place and get away from her. when i first met jasmine.”
What was a typical family dinner like? Did you have any favorite dishes?
his leg started to bounce again, his eyes darting over the place, as he thought about the question, knowing he would answer it, but the memories weren’t something he wanted to go back to. he was wanting to go forward, not backwards. he tried his hardest to keep these memories out of his mind, but the more he answered these questions, the harder it became for him.“dinner was food out of a trash can out back, and pills to keep me calm enough so i wouldn’t fight the men that were there. no..”
Does your family have any special traditions?
Where there any childhood games you enjoyed playing?
“there was a game i played. where i played, anywhere but ‘ere.”
Could you describe your childhood home? What was your favorite thing about it? Least favorite?
a deep breath left his left his leg jumping up and down once more, making his whole body shake.“it was a run down shitty two bedroom home, eh? nothin’ clean ‘bout it, nothin’ safe ‘bout it. nothin’ i ‘ave on that house was my favorite. least favorite is that it was somethin’ i called home.”
What did you want to be when you grew up?
once again he didn’t hesitate to answer this question, it was a simple easy one for him, it even got the tension out of his body.“a police officer. so i could save children like myself and get ‘em out of there.”
Of all the things you learned from your elders, what do you feel has stuck with you the most?
“that everythin’ they did was wron’, and i’m better than that. not to turn out like they did. to not run away from that either.”

he looks down at his hands, that were trembling as he let’s out a deep breath.”to not look up to the men that came in and out. to respect women better than i ‘ave been. to not let anger win.”
