Victoria vigorously shook her head. “Oh god no, you couldn’t get me back out on the ice if you paid me. I had a bruise that lasted two the last time I tried to do any sort of physical sport like this. I’ll pass.” 

“Well alright then.”Mila smiled taking a sip from her hot chocolate. "Well would you want to get some food after this? I could go for a bowl of something hot.”

“An excellent helper you say?” Sipping at his own wine, Roman slowly made his way around the island in his kitchen. Setting the glass down, he moved to brush a stray hair from her forehead. “I can think of a few other things you could help with, unless you really have your heart set on eating dinner.” 

“I am not terribly hungry...” She dragged out her words as Roman stalked over to her. “Presently.” Her breath hitched as his rough hand brushed against her soft skin.

“mind if i join you?” because manners, in truth, she was looking for a few books in particular and if she could find them at the library she could get them to print possibly for another copy or two. “i’m looking for a few books, i managed to wear through the binding on mine and i don’t have the heart to touch them anymore.” she didn’t want to keep handling them and feel them fall apart.

“Not at all. I shall enjoy your company.” Mila bounded next to Marley as the pair walked towards the library crunching fresh footprints in the fresh snowfall. “I was able to get a few more books from the Market last week. You can be the first one to pick through them.” Mile smiled taking another sip from her coffee as they turned the corner towards the library.

Osian felt the air shift slightly around them and lust ooze out of the hybrid, noticing that others subconsciously began to turn their attention towards them. “You caught me,” he started with a charming grin, “I mostly came to people watch. The book recommendations are just a bonus.”

“Ah.” Mila exhaled. She could start to feel the eyes of the people around her fall upon them. And a familiar feeling washed over her. The same feeling rose in her stomach, from forty-three years ago. The movie theater incident. The brunette leaned back and exhaled again, remembering her teaching from Kaliyah. “Do you have any for me?  I’m coming to the end of my book.”

Roman had found the proper ingredients to make some breakfast for the two of them. Feeling her hand brush across his back, Roman let a soft smile spread across his lips. Stepping back around to his fridge, he pulled a few small crates of berries he’d picked up from Pegasus and set them out on the counter. 

When the wine was poured, the wolf reached out to grab his glass. “Thank you darlin’.” Leaning on the counter, he watched the way she moved around his kitchen, not really caring about actually eating anymore. 

Mila pulled the glass to her lips and took a small sip. “So what can I do to help?” The brunette asked her torso still leaning over the island counter top. “I can chop, or grate... I am an excellent helper.” She slowly pulled herself back up, her shoulders rolling back and her sweater plunged down a bit more. She took another sip, her dark eyes fluttered up to meet his.

“I take it you’ve been skating since you were a kid?” Victoria asked, her hands wrapped tightly around her own mug. “You look so graceful out there, if I tried that I’m sure I’d look like Bambi on ice.” 

“Only a bit.” She grind taking another sip from her cup. “It’s really easy, if you have faith. And a sturdy handrail.” Mila let out a melodic chuckle looking at Victoria. “I can help, if you want to get out on the ice...”

snow flakes dance still danced around her fingertips as she stared up at the flurries drifting in the air. elementals were just starting to bring the sun up over lackluster, tinting the city in a rising gold light that was bleeding into the black above her and taking over. the snow kept a smile on the hybrid’s lips, soft like it was falling, marley would pause her quiet steps to study a storefront window of a shop just to add crystalline frost across the glass. “someone’s up early.” she says, after hearing steps in the snow behind her. marley was marveling at the unique shape of each snowflake that danced and coiled around her fingertips so it was a moment before her eyes moved up to find the person. 

Mila was in good spirits since the weather changed. Winter was her favorite time of year. Everything looked better with a white blanket of snow. Pies had a warm spice and soup was an acceptable breakfast. “I am on my way to the library this crisp morning.” Mila replied with a smile in her voice. “Thought I’d get an early start.” 

She took a sip form her home brew coffee and caught up to Marley. “Where are you off too?”

It has been a few years since she’s gotten on the ice. It was the few things in her childhood that brought her joy. It was her earliest memories of her birth parents: ice skating on the Boston Commons Frog Pond. She put her headphones in and glided to the center. She spun around and around with a smile curled on her face until her nose was cherry red and the cold settled into her bones. Plus, the Zamboni came out to lay a fresh sheet of ice down.

“I love winter.” Mila smiled to the person next to her. She gripped a cuppa hot chocolate in her hands for warmth.

a brow arched. “how the fuck did that happen?” couldn’t have been the quake. the extent of the damage had been mostly some crackled cobblestone and some bricks coming loose and falling from siding, not entirey buildings crashing down to rubble. had to have happened somehow she supposed but well, fittest was fittest and natural selection was supposed to be natural selection. “don’t walk too fast, short legs and all.” she nods, shaking her head on a smile and turning to walk away since the woman was heading home. at least she had a good story under her belt now.

Mila gave Corey a small, genuine smile and a friendly squeeze on her shoulder. She walked away, exhaustion finally set in as she walked away. “Don’t be a stranger, Corey.” She said turning around at the automatic doors.

Mila bent down at the waist to the bottom island cabinet and pulled out a fresh bottle of red from the Pegasus vineyards. She poured two glasses of the ruby red wine and pushed one towards Roman across from her.

“Practically full decapitation from rebar.” She wined re-picturing the memory. She blinked back tears before turning a hollow smile on her face. “Do you mind if I head home? We’ll catch up later? I have to go walk Bilbo and... well lay down. I almost never use my power and I am exhausted.”

Phoebe was used to it by now. The living asking if she needed anything. That’s how she categorized them. There were the dead,  the gone, the not coming back then there was the living. She was somewhere inbetween, clearly dead but, stuck. The living had a hard time processing this fact therefore they always asked her the same questions they asked one another. “Nope, dead,” she shrugged looking at Mila, “Maybe you could show me how to bandage up a few folks before you run off, though?” She asked, “Vulpec here…not so..medical.”

"Um, yes.” She gave a small nod. “But mainly I've just been taking names. Putting them on a waiting list.” Mila handed the ghost the clipboard in her grasp and unclipped the first aid kid that was her body. “Everything you need is in here.”
