      Relieved when that long silence of Rhoda crossing to the window didn’t spark more unwanted tension, she begins picking at the ties in her apron. Deciding the entire arsenal of tables in the place could wait to be wiped down in the morning. She didn’t have the patience or energy to do it tonight. All the more reason the place should hire a busboy. 

      “Well ain’t there uh, Mcdonalds or a Wendy’s nearby? Close enough to walk, ‘cause I gotta take the bus home, and they don’t make no stops.” Not that she really knew any nicer places to eat. Too late to stay here, the chef already went home. 

       She pulls her phone from the front of her shirt, tucked warmly in her bra. Recently upgraded from a phone with buttons. “I gotta cancel a date real quick, cause I got a new one.” She flashes a grin before looking back at typing fingers. Same scenario, cheap outing to eat that she wouldn’t have to pay for. But she really didn’t think Rhoda would try and coax off her clothes afterwards.”Met em’ at a gas station. Believe it er’not.” 

    Initially, there was little understanding as to why Kay didn’t think she had the kindness to drop her off wherever she lived. Rhoda was sure that it wouldn’t be a STATE AWAY drive. Then - she comes to a understanding the moment she hears of a date. Kay thinks that the date will take one look at her and new ideas will form in mind. Or Rhoda will form the idea to steal them away.    Then, Rhoda is nearly stretching her eyes when she hears ‘gas station.’ She stretches her neck to look over her shoulder instead, 

   “You know what they say about men you meet at gas stations, right?” expecting Kay to follow her: she opens the diner’s door, greeted by crisp evening air.
