Don't Hit Repeat

Pulling me back Old patterns on a new day Repetition It's human nature To make the same mistakes again Promising it will be different Wanting a second chance But it really isn't the second Count every second chance you've gotten It's been millions When will you learn That eventually There's no more second chances left to give

I wonder sometimes

If I ever cross your mind

If an image of me enters your head

And you begin to dread

That space between us

That's becoming wider

With each passing day

No chance to pay 

My regards to you

You haven't a clue

That only my memories are still alive in you

Jack Pushed Jill Down the Hill

I stood at the top of the hill

Standing straight

Smile on my face

You rushed in from behind

Knocked me down

I was too late

To pick myself back up

Rolled down the slope

Tumbling faster and faster

Scratched up and bruised

I was going to lose

That smile on my face

Left to mope

At the bottom of the hill

As you stood high above

Taking my place

One-Sided Hurt

Does hating you really fix me?

Or just embitter what’s remaining

Of the old me

The happy child

On the playground

Digging in the sand

Dripping ice cream all over her hand

She fades with each hate-filled remark

You could care less if I hated you

You're immune to pain

In truth,

I'm the only one who's getting slain

Brighter Future?

When I look back on this time of my life

Will it still hurt as much as it does today?

Will the pain come rushing back

As if it were that time again

Or will I no longer feel

This sadness that consumes me

Does time really heal all wounds?

Or does it just distract you

Until that day

When you recall

How you lost it all

Spellbound

You had me under your spell

I wasn’t thinking

Just trusted

That you’d lead me the right way

Turns out you got me lost

In the emotional turmoil I’d always sworn

Wouldn’t affect me

I had thought I was smarter

Safer

Understood the cost

Of doing what I did

But obviously not

Because I was under your spell

 And didn’t follow my head

Misunderstood

Do you ever feel like you’re on the outside looking in?

You can be right there in the center of it all

Yet you still don’t feel connected at all

People can look in your eyes

But they don’t know your thoughts

They don’t know the tears that have fallen

They don’t know all of your lies

That you’ve told yourself to cope

Trying to hold on tight

To the happiness that’s fleeting

It was there then

But it’s gone now

Feeling Unwanted

Staring into your eyes

Playing your game

Who’s to blame?

I shoulda known

Not to fall for your game

So smart

Yet so stupid

Jump right in

Fake Security

A bird perches on an electrical wire

The bird is safe

The bird is happy

But what if the rubber coating is stripped away?

The bird is exposed

The bird is zapped

What lies beneath our exterior?

Destructive electricity

Ready to break free

That wire is really a liar

Disgrace

The look between us

Is full of hatred

All the laughter

Of the past

Fades away

When I see your face

Beckoning Lake

The world is so large

Yet she is so small

Sitting in the sun on a lazy afternoon

She wonders if she’s the only one

Who makes these mistakes

Who recollects and shakes

As she gazes across the lake

Her reflection keeps her company

It understands her fall

It urges her to reflect back on it all

It urges her to let herself go

To drown herself in sorrow

Pebble

What damage could a pebble do?

So small

So smooth

Just one among many

But what if it is picked up?

What if it is chucked?

It hits the surface with a splash

It creates a ripple across the muck

The ripple keeps on spreading

Outward, Outward from its source

That pebble upset the calm

It altered nature’s course

Similar to how you altered me

You created a ripple in my destiny

Black lines drawn on my hand

Slowly stain my skin

What a beautiful design

But it cannot last

Just like the smile that stains your face

Both will begin to fade

But you cannot keep living in the past

Cover up those memories with a new design

One more beautiful than the last
