“Ladon,” Malcolm called out, his hands resting in his pockets. “I think I need a new uniform… I tore mine again,” he lifted up the shirt in his hands, showing the large rip in the side where he had been attacked by an alien on an away mission.
Ladon’s job as the Quartermaster meant it was his job to order thing that the crew of the Enterprise needed, and while that sounded like it would be an interesting job, he spent 90% of his time reordering uniforms for the various members of landing parties. It became standard practice for him to carry uniform reorder forms with him at all times. “No problem,” he said, immediately digging out the correct form and handing it to Malcolm, “Fill this out and get it to me when you can, I’ll have a couple of rental uniforms sent to your quarters, they should tide you over until the new ones get here.” He made a few notes on his PADD and then looked back to Malcolm, “The uniform is an easy enough fix, but are you alright? It looks like they should have taken a chunk of you along with the shirt, did you go up to Sickbay already?”
She turned his hand over in hers, attention wholly on the small bite and the warm swelling. It seemed to be from one of the Asgardian varieties of a peacock - there were a few with a minor venom in their bite. Large birds, beautiful, flightless, and ultimately a little too territorial for their own good. They had a few small teeth, but the bruising was usually worse than anything else.
“I got a bite like this as a girl, once. I’ve avoided those birds ever since.” Nanna let her eyes flit up to his, smile present. “Come on. I’ve got a salve. You don’t need to have a sore hand. There’s no reason to be in pain here.”
As far as Ladon was concerned, this injury was fairly minor, it was barely worth a second glance. He’d suffered worse bites back home and he would have put this one behind him immediately if Nanna hadn’t noticed it.
He shrugged, but let her lead him away. The bit really didn’t bother him much, but she was right in that there was no reason for him to suffer when he didn’t have to. There was a slight sting running through his hand and when he held his hands next to each other, he could see that the bitten one was much bigger than the other and he decided it would be best to let her fix it, so he held the bitten hand out to her so she could do what needed to be done.
They were shopping at the markets; she’d thought it would be good for him. He could look at the people, at the city, see the diversity of it all - and how her people, his people, interacted. They were not so different from the apes. They had their social cues, their social circles, interactions and expectations that knit communities together. Nanna had wanted him to try the different foods on offer; sweets, fruits, meat, cheese. The markets offered everything. Maybe it was too much.
People did stare. People did talk. Everyone knew who Ladon was, and everyone knew who Nanna was. She had caused her own controversy when she was widowed, then vanished on a jaunt across the galaxy. Now, she had returned with a strange man in tow. One of them, one thought lost forever. She’d been trying to reinstate his family name, his estates, his finances. Being sister-in-law to Thor helped, but the God of Thunder was rarely in Asgard anymore.
Nanna had paused to smell a fresh bouquet of flowers, ordering a few bouquets for her home. She always had fresh flowers at home. It was then that she’d lost him. She looked up, and Ladon’s tall, silent figure had vanished. The Aesir turned on the spot, searching for his blonde head, for the clothes he’d worn. She walked quickly away from the crowd - as he might have done, and felt a wave of relief wash over her when she found him at the tree line.
“Ladon.” Nanna breathed, not realising that she was still holding a few flowers. A tiny bouquet to show the florist what she wanted. “Ladon, are you okay? Do you want to go home?”
Her hand found his arm, gentle and sure in its contact. She followed his gaze easily, looking at the trees. “Do you want to climb one?”
He felt her presence before she spoke. If there was one thing he learned in all his years as the weakest member of his family, it was to always keep his guard up and be aware of his surroundings, you never knew what was preparing to attack you. Hearing her voice made him feel guilty about even considering leaving when she had done so much for him, the familiarity of the forest was tempting, but life without Nanna now that he knew her, was hardly an option, so he pushed it out of his mind.
The answer to her question was obvious without a verbal confirmation, but he was still hesitant and didn’t make a move toward the trees. When they had been on his home planet they spent a great deal of time together in the trees, but everything was so different here, he wasn’t sure that he wanted to call attention to them. He glanced back at the people in the market and raised his eyebrows as if to ask if she was sure that was what she wanted to do.

“You’ve been coughing a lot. You okay?“
"What is wrong with you?”
“Gosh, you’re burning up!”
“Um, hey? Anyone in there? Hello?”
“Ugh, just blow your nose already.”
“My head might just explode.”
“I think I’m gonna hurl.”
“If you get me sick, I’ll kill you.”
“Ah-choo!”
“Okay, that can’t be allergies. Are you sick?”
“Geez, you look like crap.”
“That is so gross.”
“Hey, woah. Don’t pass out on me here.”
“You really should be in bed, you know.”
“I’m too busy to spend all day in bed.“
"I'b fide.”
“Please tell me there’s some cough drops left.”
“Do you think it’s warm in here?”
“You’re so pale.”
“Have you eaten today?”
“They told me you passed out. How do you feel?”
“I’m not getting out of bed.”
“The soup is probably great, but I can’t taste a thing.”
“You know, that’s not helping me feel better.”
“My nose hates me.”
“You should probably stay back. You don’t want to catch this.”
“Are you coming down with something?”
“My throat feels funny.”
Ah, aye... About that, mate. I think they're talking about my *relationship* with Pria, if ye catch my meaning?
“Ah, well, either way, I mean with some of the stuff people are into these days, this is all pretty minor as far as I’m concerned. We lived together at the Academy, we could both tell a lot of strange stories about the other and I don’t think either one of us is in any position to judge the other, do you?”
So, what do you think of Montgomery Scott's relationship with his ship?? Weird right?
“I don’t think it’s strange at all, actually. The ship is a part of him and he’s spent so much time and effort on her, it would be more strange if he didn’t have this kind of relationship with the ship. The ship is a much of part of him as my voice emulator is to me, it’s something a layperson can’t understand, you either have that kind of experience, of you don’t, and Scotty and I have both lived lives where we get it.”

And What About Very Old Friends? (Closed)
Ladon had been living on the Yorktown Starbase since before it was open to the public, due to his job as Head of Acquisitions, and he’d grown to love his new home in the short time he was there. He’d found the job posting while recovering from his implant surgery and after a brief talk with his fiancee and his doctors, he’d moved there in less than a month. At first he was there alone, but when the hospital was finished, his fiancee joined him and started working their as a nurse. Over time, citizens from various Federation planets began to move in and by the time Ladon had been there for a year, Yorktown was a thriving community.
The incident with the crew of the Enterprise had shocked everyone, and in the aftermath of their batter and return, Ladon had been working double shifts every day, partially to make sure the crew was well provided for, and partially to take his mind of the fact that his fiancee had been unfaithful to him and he’d broken things off with her just a few days before the crew had returned on the Franklin. It was such a new development, Ladon hadn’t made any decisions about his future, he just knew being on Yorktown much longer was going to be unbearable if she decided to stay there.
On this particular day, he’d been trying to occupy his mind by pouring over requests from the team that was building the new Enterprise when two things caught his eye. The first was a job posting for a Quartermaster to finish out the leftover time on their five-year mission, and the second was the name of their Head of Engineering. Ladon and Scotty had been roommates at the Academy, but lost touch when they went their separate ways after graduation. Setting the request forms aside, Ladon got up and set out in search of his old friend, who, thankfully, was easy to find. He approached the other man from behind, quietly and, with the help of his new voice emulator, tried to surprise him by asking, “How would you feel about putting in a good word for your old roommate with your Captain? He needs to leave Yorktown and I think he’d be a killer Quartermaster.”

//I'm so sorry about the delay in replies and starters, not to mention my overall inactivity around here, but real life is still a tad on the nuts side. I have an early end to my shift tonight, so hopefully I can find some time to crank things out then!
My muse is being held hostage and is being experimented on. Send me “What have they done to you?” for my muse’s response to yours finding them shackled and chained in a small room.
Send “Are you sick?” for my muse’s reaction to yours placing a hand on their forehead.
"It's all swollen up..."
Ladon looked down at the swollen bite on his hand, he’d come into contact with a strange creature while outside of her home and he tried to make friends with it and it was less interested in making friends and more interested in seeing if he tasted good. He didn’t know much about the animals near her home, but this appeared to be at least a little bit on the poisonous side. He looked back up at her and shrugged, it wasn’t great, but he’d had worse.
He never wanted to admit it to himself, but a part of him had always known he didn’t belong with the family he’d grown up with. He’d always been too small, too weak, and too sickly to run with the other members of his family, but here he looked just like everyone else. They walked differently and dressed in a way that didn’t look comfortable to him, but they looked like him and that was nice, but he still felt as though everyone was staring at him and he didn’t have communication skills to explain to Nanna why he felt so uncomfortable.
It wasn’t that he was ungrateful, he was thrilled that she’d taken enough interest in him to bring him to her home and work on teaching him how to be like everyone else in this place, but he was still trying to get used to the name they’d discovered belonged to him. Ladon. It was so strange, but he liked it, though he wasn’t totally used to being called it quite yet. They’d gone into a city, something that he’d never seen before, and it had been hard for him not to wander off, especially since his instinct was to take new things apart and people seemed to find that off-putting.
More than anything he wanted to fit in, but everything was new and different and he didn’t know how to behave like them and he had no idea how to explain what he was feeling, so he broke away from her, though he didn’t go far and stood facing an embankment of trees, wondering if maybe he would be better off running into them and letting her continue to live her life in peace without him as a burden.
