HEAR YE, HEAR YE! All folk of the realms are hereby invited to the fourth annual Carnival of the Phoenix; a Midsummer festival of fire and frolick! Beset in the rolling valleys in the breast of the Hinterlands, all races and all peoples come together for five days of hearty competitions among houses and brethren for prizes and glory of their houses!
The Midsummer festival that begins on June 21st marks the point when Belore (the Sun) has reached its zenith in the sky. During this time, it is said that the elves take this time for celebration of their culture and heritage; revering the distinct polarity between themselves and their strengths much like the Elunites revere the Moon’s waxing and waning phases. In conjunction with the solar calendar, the solstice is marked as a festival of “fire” that is meant to encapsulate the legends of both Dath’Remar and King Anasterian Sunstrider. This is in celebration of the power of Light over Darkness, the power of the elves – and all peoples – to overcome their obstacles and likewise to celebrate the ideology of unity. During this time of celebration, they mark festivals with honor to those who fell in the battle to overcome the darkness and revere them as the patron “saints” of the festivals in the future. In the beginning of the celebration, it is marked as a means of joyous occasion of when Light grows in strength, as people grow in strength and by the end of the celebration, it is understood that the Light will wane into winter, but it is not a loss for we will overcome the darkness beyond as the wheel of time turns.
For if you seek the glory and the riches of the realms, then we shall see you at the Lists!
The Carnival of the Phoenix is a fun, Midsummer celebration meant to encapsulate the revelry of summer as well as introduce some fun, tongue-in-cheek humor as the “Azerothian Mardi Gras” (beads not included with primary package). With this in mind, we have invited everyone – Horde and Alliance – to come and participate in the fun, food, and familiarity of competition that only the summer months can provide. This year, there have been many different changes that have been presented not only as unique features to the carnival, but as a means to keep people engaged from sundown to sun-up! For information, check out the bits below and be sure to register on the website to reserve your spot, today!
Registration for the Carnival:
Registration for the event is very simple, but unique. In previous years, you could only register whole guilds or individuals. For the theme this year as a true carnival, people may register as individual “houses” (or clans or tribes, depending on your racial configuration). To register as a house, you must have the following:
Register at least 1 Duke (male) and 1 Duchess (female)
[Q]: How would we still register whole guilds?
[A]: Guilds would be representative of a “made-up” house. For example, if Demitria of League of Lordaeron were to sign up her whole guild, she would register them under “House Rione” as her personal house and anyone who wished to represent that house would then register themselves in the competitions under that house.
[Q]: Can people register themselves in groups outside of their guilds?
[A]: Yes. If your character has a house and you can come up with at least 5 people, you can compete with your guild and your friends. For some guilds, they have sub-groups within themselves who can represent themselves with their own “made-up” house. For Hyrall in First Light, if he wanted to just represent his sub-group with at least 5 people from his guild, he could register as “House Fairwind” and his group could fall into that house.
[Q]: Can individuals still register without being in a house?
[A]: They can, and certainly find a house to fall into later on if they want to. We try to encourage people to work together, so if they can find a group of people to mesh with, that is always for the best.

About the Carnival Royalty:
The carnival royalty is meant to be a spoof where they will be paraded around and make ‘decrees’ to run the carnival. During ceremonies and the ball, they will be the one to give out prizes to the champions and to ‘oversee’ how things will go. All dukes and duchesses who were not voted will retain their carnival titles of duke and duchess of their respective house and will likewise be permitted to follow the royal court and be part of the pageantry. In many cases, they can help judge contests and even be part of them with all of the pomp and circumstance that is afforded to true royalty.
How the Voting Process Works:
To register for the voting process, each house is to provide the name of one “duke” and one “duchess” to be representative of their “house” (or clan or tribe).
Individuals may not register for the voting process as they are not representing a “house.”
Dukes and duchesses will be separated by faction for the voting process; this means that Horde will vote for who they want to be the ‘carnival king and queen’ and Alliance will be voting the same.
The person with the highest votes will determine the configuration of Horde / Alliance king and queen. Example: If the highest votes goes to a Horde female, then the king will be the highest voted-in Alliance male.
Runners-up will be delegated as ‘prince’ and ‘princess’ respectively.
Those who do not make the king / queen or prince/princess titles will still be referred to as ‘dukes’ and ‘duchesses’ of their registered houses.
WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU THERE!
