|One Temporary Escape|
He seemed to have startled her, and was about to apologize. However, he held his tongue, instead listening to her speech after she seemed to have regained herself, which didn’t take very long at all. Stepping back slightly as she stood herself and greeted him with a curtsy, he returned the favor with a small bow, his left hand at his side and the right at his right arm across his abdomen.
“Ah, I’m glad. It sometimes seems that I have the worst of timing.” He tried to lighten the atmosphere by relaxing himself, his tone milder than the formal one he had taken earlier. Still, they had only just met, so he couldn’t let go of formalities that simply. Ah, he hoped he wasn’t being rude.
“I’m merely… interested in speaking with someone I have never met before. It seems to be so invigorating.” After he spoke, he quickly realized something… Both were standing, this was no way to speak to a lady, unless she wanted to remain doing as such. “Would you prefer if we sat?”
He tried to recap what he saw of the lady as he had approached. She seemed lost in her own thoughts, perhaps troubled or reminiscing, if not daydreaming. He didn’t understand the human mind as much as he wished he did, regardless of how many trainers he had spoken to. Ah well, if she wished to speak with him of what she was thinking of, she would in her own time.
Oh, wait…
They had yet to formally introduce themselves…
“I’m terribly sorry, it seemed my manners slipped.” It was common courtesy to give out each other’s names upon meeting. “Steven Stone.” He was sure she knew. At this, he reached over for a shake of a hand, smiling slightly. “I hope I’m not confusing you for anyone else, but are you by any chance Lady Caitlin?”
Caitlin shook her head as to argue with Steven's statement about having bad timing. In fact, his timing was impeccably coincidental as the lady feared thinking even more about returning to Sinnoh. She wasn't going to openly let him know about that, however. They were just meeting. She did appreciate his bow, though. It seemed that Steven Stone was living up to his reputation as a gentleman.
Caitlin smiled kindly at him, admittedly a bit impressed and intrigued about his desire to speak with someone new. It wasn't often she came across people who were genuinely interested in getting to know others for selfless reasons. Steven interested her and she wasn't going to ignore his request to speak with her.
"Steven Stone," Caitlin repeated with a small nod. "I had a feeling it was you. You are not hard to recognize, Mister Stone."
She held out a small, delicate hand in return and gave Steven's a gentle yet firm handshake. It wasn't the usual way for her to introduce herself, but she certainly wasn't going to be rude. Caitlin only hoped her handshake was acceptable and blushed lightly at the thought of not doing it correctly.
"You are also not wrong," she added, sitting herself down gracefully onto the grace again. "I am Lady Caitlin of Unova's Elite Four. It is truly a pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir."
