We often get asked what it is and how come that under the skin .
The material is Teflon (PTFE) or silicone. There are artists who just do this kind of (extreme ) modifications . You don’t walk into a shop and a few seconds later it's done. There is anything more to it . it is a strange world , because I think it is illegal. Officially I issn’t forbidden but if a piercing shop ore something would offer this implants the law will close that shop .
There was a shop in Alkmaar (Holland) who did this (which is not there annymore) and there are people who are traveling around the world and do this kind of things . but their work goes far beyond that . Want elves ears? magnet in your fingers? spikes on your head ? if you have the money than they arrange it.
There are many kinds of shapes .You can choose from skulls ,cherries ,balls ,candy , stripes ,hand grenades ,cakes ,rings ,you name it ,search fot it and you will find it. However, the shape must be quite simple and the implants have rounded corners because it must remain under the skin and not going through it.
Also the place is important.Hands are very suitable . There is the skin is thin so you can see the implant very well. But that is no guarantee. My little heart is in my chest. The skin also thin but many people do not even see it .Larger and convex implants you cant put them in arms . There are also people who put dots on their head. Then they are horns .
Sometimes it has to be not stand out. Think of a chin or cheek implant . People who have almost no bone, get a tighter and more beautiful face. I think that kind implants goes through the normal plastic surgeon.
But how does that al working? First, the position is decided. where the implant should come and is signed. Then the position from the scar is decided. they work with sterile material . First a surgical knife.They make an incision is (that will be the scar) .And then they use a flat spatula like a little blade. they created a hole where the implant must pass through the skin to where he should be. Officially , no anesthetic used .... but yeah everything is unofficial so ........... usually they do. That 's a good thing because it is sometimes quite a lot of lashing work . And if you can not stand blood , you better keep your eyes closed !
If the space between the skin layers is large enough they can put the implant in it. One is more flexible than the other so they have to pay attention to that which is good.Then is it held in the right place with tape because he should not be straing during the healing process .
The wound is dotting then the healing begin . First, it is all thick and blue, and you can see were the stitches are . Which are removed after about 2 weeks. You see after a few months the final result .
Of course there are risks . If they not working properly sterile you get infections , there may also be an allergic reaction to occur , encapsulation or rejection . Luckily I have not seen or heard it before . I am very allergic but have no problems with the implant . But my heart shifted slightly, so not in the middle of my chest anymore . That is unfortunate but there isnothing to do about it.
