It is unbelievable to me that two months away from the release, people are still complaining about the casting of Annabeth Chase. Specially, when the only justification for their complain is “she needed to be blonde”. Because no. She didn’t need to be blonde.
The whole reason for her appearance was to represent the girls that get overlooked or face bad stereotypes just because of her physical traits, and not only blonde girls face these issues. Do you know who else does? Women of color, especially black girls.
The casting of Annabeth is perfect to show representation of black girls being wise, driven, resourceful, strong… and all the great qualities she has. Yet, you keep reducing her as if only her hair color mattered.
Honestly, Book!Annabeth would totally throw you to the floor judo style if she saw you saying that being a blonde is all she had to offer.

Lilo & Stitch is a great example of a story that has no villains. It has antagonists, sure, but most of them are well-meaning. The worst person in the film is that little shit Myrtle, but she’s not in the film that much anyway.
Since this post is getting traction I want to clarify how not-villainous the antagonists are:
The Grand Councilwoman is literally just responding to what she sees as a threat to the galaxy and is extremely reasonable.
Gantu is much the same. He’s a bit overzealous, yes, but he thinks he’s saving the galaxy from stitch.
Cobra Bubbles is literally just doing his job, he’s obviously not happy about it but he is doing what he feels is best for Lilo. And much like the Councilwoman, he is extremely reasonable.
Myrtle is, again, just a little shit. She’s a schoolyard bully and is truly small potatoes.
Jumba calls himself an “evil scientist,” but literally nothing supports that. His only onscreen crime is creating a bunch of Pokémon that have powers that will mildly inconvenience people and can be persuaded to be nice over the course of 22 - 90 minutes, to say nothing of himself seeing as he decides to change his ways at the softest bit of persuasion.
Pleakley is literally just gay.
The "villain" of Lilo and Stitch is, rather directly, societies and social systems that write people off and do not provide support and care.
It is obvious to the audience -- and deliberately presented this way by the film -- that it is better for Lilo to stay with her sister, even if her sister is a bit of a mess and not financially stable. Mr. Bubbles is not evil. He is there because he wants what's best for Lilo, and he is not unreasonable to think that the sister without a job who leaves the stove on and whose house nearly burned down two days later is not it. The solution is not to "defeat" Mr. Bubbles; the solution would be for society to help Nani succeed, rather than watch as she fails.
Similarly, no one provided any help to Stitch when he was created and discovered. They wrote him off as an abomination, something too dangerous to be destroyed. They weren't evil, and it wasn't unreasonable to think that the experiment created to be an agent of destruction would be better off scrapped. But what would have happened if they had at least tried?
Lilo and Stitch are two characters who were caught in systems that were cold, uncaring, and unsupportive, even if the people in them were not evil and were, in fact, just doing their best.
It's a movie about people who have been written off finding one another and building a found family where they can get and give the support and care they didn't get from the people with authority and I love it so much.
In 1990, the high school dropout rate for Dolly Parton's hometown of Sevierville Tennessee was at 34% (Research shows that most kids make up their minds in fifth/sixth grade not to graduate). That year, all fifth and sixth graders from Sevierville were invited by Parton to attend an assembly at Dollywood. The objective of the Imagination library was that every child in Sevier County would receive one book, every month, mailed and addressed to the child, from the day they were born until the day they started kindergarten, 100% free of charge. What began as a hometown initiative now serves children in all 50 states, Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom, mailing thousands of free books to children around the world monthly.
On March 1, 2018 Parton donated her 100 millionth book at the Library of Congress: a copy of "Coat of Many Colors" dedicated to her father, who never learned to read or write.

You WILL learn about Dolly Parton and what a fucking amazing woman she is and you will LIKE IT.
I assume everyone already knows how much I idolise Dolly, and it's because of stuff like this. She saw an issue, saw a way she could help (and importantly how she could help a community help itself) and just... did it. None of it feels like she's doing it for any other reason than because she has the facilities to do it and it's the right thing to do. She is proof that it is possible to be a millionaire and still be a genuinely good person.

Can we talk about the healthy masculinity in the Haunted Mansion movie?

Like we see Ben grieving his dead wife like we see him break down sobbing crying like full on breakdown and we see Travis break down towards the end in the basement and neither time is treated like a joke!
They’re allowed to be upset they’re given the space and support to cry and it’s openly acknowledged that they need to do that.
Aside from it being positive masculinity it’s positive BLACK male masculinity which is even rarer idk I just loved this movie so much.
