Devia Starfall, a genasi-turned-dhampir monk. A nasty cult has kidnapped her because of her djinn blood, turned her into a dhampir and then made her into their personal toothy spider-man assassin.

Here are some sketches of her before and after escaping the cult. She is a lot happier now.

Sometimes a really cool character might just not be suited for a specific campaign setting.

Story time: After 10 hrs of gameplay I realised that my DnD character, the way she was, was making me miserable.

For context, this is a sort of prison slavery kind of setting, where PCs have to serve a prison sentence as a Suicide Squad, going on missions for the Church. I was not aware of this beforehand, and created Devia - a free traveler air genasi, completely unsuitable for being chill in captivity. This was not a healthy headspace to be in. Plus, my stats were bad, and I wasn't vibing with ranger class.

After some emotional agony, I admitted this to the DM. I was very prepared - I created an entirely new character, with a biography based on what I knew now about the world.

Ultimately, this might not go anywhere, and Devia herself might be hijacked to become a dhampir monk, in that case, some of this design might be reused.

Normally I would draw a portrait for Roll20. This campaign is supposed to be in person, so I didn’t need to draw one…. But I drew one anyway.

My new character - Devia Skydancer, an air genasi ranger (?) She was dropped off Elemental Plane of Air and fell into the Astral Sea, where she has meet someone divine.

She's level 1 right now, but I am thinking Horizon Walker, it would make the most sense.

Eldritch Angel

Joscelyn is my most beloved character. When he was younger, he throught he was human. By the beginning of the story, he had suspicions he was more. As the story progressed, I watched him reconcile with his true nature, as he slowly changes, acquiring more and more sinister abilities and appearance traits.

At the beginning of the game, Joscelyn had one eye, which turned black and gold whenever he used his powers, and also sometimes when he wanted or was getting emotional. He could somewhat control it, but it was kind of scaring him. He thought it was part of his deal of being a protector aasimar, but party members suspected more - the boy had some spooky powers.

After Joscelyn finds out his nature also was affected by his prolonged stay in the Feywild, his "condition" progresses further - he acquires further "dark" powers - becomes a Shadow monk, and the DM hinted that his hair start slowly changing to black.

This portraitwas prepared for the time I come back from my break - by the time everyone hit lvl 6, and my choice of feat was Devil's Sight - further reflected by Joscelyn's eyes. Now, both of them are affected, but Joscelyn also has a much better control over them.

Sadly, our player group broke up before I could play him once more.

Hell’s Games

I believe that, due to have badly her patron has screwed her over, Ember was quite receptive to the influence of her fellow paladin Caes, whose solo purpose in life was to kill Fiends.

In a way, The Father has created his most determined enemy — once Ember has nothing to lose, she won’t stop until she makes him pay.

"Lady Lua" was a substitute character for a few sessions, when it didn't make sense for my main campaign pc, Ember, to leave her dying mother.

She was only really there for a month or so of playing, but I know no chill, so I have created a bunch of designs for her as part of character creation:

It was fun to experience a different dynamic: Lua is elven, noble born and very femenine, and it was fun to add some of that "nice and wise princess" aesthetic to the party, where she is lovely and friendly, as a change from a tomboy-ish and sassy warlock.

Plus, sometimes, after playing a warlock, you just want that opportunity to play someone with a "demons - bad" attitude. And, out your other warlock as a demon summoner.

Ember of Shatterstone, melee heavy hitter of Horizon Walkers, the rising in popularity mercenary band.

The guys have just won a tournament, and as the result, they go to a party! Here’s Ember’s “set of fine clothes”. Elegant and perfect for ditching the skirt and running away/fighting, should the need arise.

And session 16, where Caes (Paladin of Glory, fiend slayer) is understandably pissed at Ember for being too shifty. He promises to kill her as soon as he has proof that she in cahoots with fiends.

Snark to snark combat ensues.

Session 15, where Ember is confronted by an entity claiming to serve her patron, The Father.

"The Master", he says, "is displeased you have not killed [the paladin of Glory, Caes] yet. He sent me to hurry you up."

As a response, Ember chooses to step forward and Eldritch Blaaaast the floating demon/devil dude.
