Once their daughter was at the crawling stage, Inuyasha and Kagome agreed that she would resume her shrine duties and he would play the stay at home daddy. And he loved the role... well except for the diaper changes. Moroha’s personality was starting to show through, and according to his wife, “she looks like me, but is all over you.” Whatever that meant.
The child was a ball of energy and they worked tirelessly to baby proof the home. Anything sharp or deemed dangerous is kept high enough out of her reach. Inuyasha did his best to keep up with her, but sometimes even with his inhuman energy, Moroha would run circles around him. He loved it, and he couldn’t be more blessed to call her his own.
It was another day like any other. According to the sun, Kagome would be home soon from the shrine and Moroha was playing quietly on a little fur rug. Wait? Quietly?! The kid was rarely quiet. Inuyasha pops one eye open and sees the child hunched over with her back to him. “Moroha what ya doin’?”
No response, but he can see her arms moving. So, he crawls the few feet over to get a better look. “Aww, crap! Moroha!” Inuyasha quickly scoops the toddler up and swings her onto his back. The motion causes the child to giggle loudly and grab onto his ears, shaking them in excitement. She was playing with a rather large spider! Just like a cat with their kill, he didn’t know if should be proud or panicked, but swung to the later when his wife’s voice chimed into his brain. “Kid, you are so lucky mommas not home.”
While the child whined and bounced on his back in irritation that he took away her new found play thing, he tosses the half dead critter outside and decides to pretend nothing happened. Because if Kagome finds out there was a spider in the house, she’ll definitely freak out and make him search for more. He puts the child back onto the rug with a small doll to play with and starts a fire for cooking.
An hour later, Kagome arrives home and gives her husband and child kisses before settling in for the night. “Did I miss anything today?” She questions her husband while changing into something more comfortable.
“Nope. Moroha didn’t even give me trouble with her bath.”
“Aww,” Kagome goes over and picks the child up, hugging the giggling girl. “You were a good girl for daddy, huh? That’s my girl.”
The child squeals from her moms cheek kisses. “Cap! K-wap!”
Kagome’s eyes widen in shock, did her daughter just say what she thinks she said?! Her head whips to her husband, “Inuyasha?! What are you teaching her?!”
Misunderstanding her mom’s reaction, Moroha continues repeating the new word she’d learned in a sing-song manner. “Cap! Cap! Cap! K—wap!
“Inuyasha!!”
He gulps hard. Uh-oh, busted!
Haven’t written in a long time. Life’s been…life. So here’s a Drabble-Inuyasha-perspective-thing as I try to get back into it. May go into AO3 as the first part in a Drabble collection later? IDK.
Fragile
Kagome didn’t realize how fragile she was. How fucking delicate. How human.
Did she not notice how slowly her wounds healed? How a wine-dark bruise would mar her skin for days; how fangs and claws and all the sharp things in the world left cuts and gouges that took weeks to seal up. Left criss-crossing scars across the flesh of her arms, her thighs, her neck. Visible. So, so visible. There were times he feared she’d never heal at all, just bleed and bleed and bleed until she was still and cold and quiet.
It was why he would take hit after hit for her. Curse himself each time she staggered from a fight battered and bloody: just more proof of how he failed her.
Because Inuyasha healed in days, if not hours.
Sometimes he healed so quickly he could feel the strain of his muscles, skin, blood vessels, skin knitting itself together.
He never hated himself more than when he compared his unblemished skin with hers.
And he never loved what he was more than when he was able to shield her from a blow, as if that was what he was born to do.
Protect her. From everything. Even if that “everything” included him.
