Review: Gifted

For all you sappy suckers out there, this is the movie for you!

Super hotty Chris Evans Frank raising his niece Mary after his sister commits suicide (pre-movie) when Mary was a baby! His sister, Diane, was a math prodigy.  Her entire life was devoted to solving one major math problem for the world.  Pushed by her mother incessantly, Diane had no other life, the only thing she wanted was for Mary to have a childhood, so that’s what she wanted Frank to give Mary. It turns out that Mary is a genius herself and Frank’s mother wants custody to continue working on the math problem her mother didn’t finish!  A custody battle ensues and tears flooded like rain for me! Evans is definitely eye candy during this movie and youngster Grace is endearing as Mary! Of course Octavia Spencer plays “the mother we all wish we had” in the flick!   Now I love Chris Evans as a sweet, vulnerable uncle or boyfriend, but I really get fired up when he plays Captain America, which I have read he really wants to get away from that persona.  Oh well, if it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it Chris!

This movie gets 3 doxies!!!

Review: Captain America: Civil War

                  ARE YOU #TeamCap OR #TeamIronMan

I went in with #TeamCap all the way!  Even though I like Iron Man, Tony Stark and his ego always think they have the right answer or the right way to do things!!!  Captain America, a.k.a Steve Rogers, is the leader because he can usually look at all sides objectively. He puts others before himself, as is the case in Civil War!

Civil War begins with a little more in depth background about what Bucky Barnes was doing during the forty years Captain America was on ice.  Unfortunately, it hasn’t been a good time for the good guys! In present day, the Avengers are feeling pressure from the government to be regulated by the Anti-Hero Registration Act, which will limit their actions.  Cap and Tony stand on opposing political sides, with Tony agreeing with the act because the world feels like the heroes are destroying cities in their attempt to apprehend bad guys.  But Cap is afraid that they would not be able to do their jobs effectively if having to rely on the government must dictate when their help should be employed.  Politics kids, it affects everything!

The difference in opinion escalates into all out war, splitting into Team Iron Man, consisting of Iron Man, Black Widow, Black Panther, Vision, War Machine and newbie Spiderman, against Team Captain America consisting of Cap, Bucky Barnes, Falcon, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Sharon Carter and Ant Man!!! The new Spiderman is the young and adorable Tom Holland!  He has a geeky, Toby Maguire vibe about him, but has a great sense of humor and is totally excited to join the Avengers!! This is an awesome movie for the family that loves their super heroes!!!  Don’t miss it!!  Sta There is plenty of action, peppered with lots of humor. Our favorite group of heroes are divided, could it really mean the end of the Avengers? I give Captain America: Civil War 5 Doxies

Alterra Pest Control in San Antonio charged me for service that wasn't performed. I have had them servicing my front and back yards quarterly for the last 2 years. This quarter they called as usual to let me know the technician would be coming in 2 days for service. James and I were both home all day, but no one ever showed up. No call, no show, no service. The following day, Alterra Pest Control debited the amount of the quarterly service call from my checking account. I called on the following Monday, no answer during business hours, I left a message requesting a return call. Same on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I finally got a real person on the phone. I explained what happened. The real person maintained that the technician came out, but only serviced the front yard because of the dogs. Every other time for the last 2 years, the technician has knocked on the door or rang the bell so he can get into the backyard, but that didn't happen this time. There is no way he could have serviced the front without us knowing about it. I told the real person I no longer wanted their service and I wanted my money back. I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. I was told that the office manager would call me to discuss the situation further. I had to leave another message Friday and Serena finally called just a few minutes ago. They are standing behind their technician, saying he came here and just sprayed the front yard, but he didn't knock or ring the bell. He just left. I'm only getting half of my money back. Don't trust them. They do not honor their customers!

Fuller House Season 1 Review

Yeah, so I binge watched the 13 episodes of Season 1 on Netflix last night.  I was a huge Full House fan back in the day.  I had recently caught a few episodes of the classic on Nick at Night and was surprised at how cheesy it was.  But, I my affinity for the lovable Tanner family remained.  So my curiosity was definitely peaked when I heard about the new spin-off, Fuller House.

  The first episode, “Our Very First Show, Again”  was packed with familiar faces, including original Full House cast members Bob Saget, John Stamos, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, Scott Weinger, and twins Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit reprising their role as Uncle Jess and Aunt Becky’s twins Nicky and Alex.  The story starts out with recently widowed D.J. and her three sons living in the old Tanner house with dad Danny.  But Danny and Becky are on their way to Los Angeles for their new, national talk show, “Wake up America!”  An overwhelmed D.J. starts to buckle under the strain of being a single parent and the impending doom of being all alone with no help even from her dad.  It is ultimately decided that D.J. and her boys are going to stay in the Family home and sister Stephanie and BFF Kimmy Gibbler and daughter will move in and help take care of D.J. and boys!

Amid all of the group hugs, Gibbler antics and cheap shots at the Olsen Twins, Fuller House actually kept me engaged.  Attempting to impart life lessons on the audience, it was severely cheesy, but in the good way!  I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout the evening binge.   The one thing that bothered me was Kimmy’s soon-to-be ex-husband Fernando played by Juan Pablo Di Pace. I think he was supposed to be portrayed as a Latin eccentric, but he came across as a gay nightclub lounge act. After watching the last episode of the season, I was kind of sad that there weren’t any more episodes to watch!  So I am definitely looking forward to Season 2!  And I love the revamped theme song “Everywhere” sung by Carly Rae Jepson!

Oh, and btw, I found a Fuller House drinking game to play during the binge.  I was sufficiently blasted by the end of the season! FUN!

Review - London Has Fallen

I recently had the honor of screening London Has Fallen with the always sexy Gerard Butler! When I saw Olympus Has Fallen a few years ago, I never imagined that there would be a sequel. Not that it wasn’t sequel worthy, but it just didn’t seem like the type of movie that would have a sequel.  But there is never a bad opportunity for a Gerard Butler movie. Oh, and did I mention…Gerard Butler is star of this movie?

Lemme tell you, I have always loved Gerard Butler! This movie, however unrealistic it is, made me love him more! He is such a bad-ass! He takes several licks and keeps on ticking!  If I was the President I would want him protecting and kicking butt for me! The film begins in good ole’ Yemen. One of the worst terrorists in the world is at a wedding with family.  The good guys are tipped off that Big, Bad Terrorist Dude is there and the unsuspecting wedding party is fired on, killing his daughter and injuring one of his sons.  Cut to a few years later, the president is notified that the British Prime Minister has died after complications from surgery. There is going to be a huge funeral with leaders from over forty countries.  As everyone is headed for St. Paul’s Cathedral; the leaders start getting picked off one by one.  An attempt on the President is no exception, but is thwarted by sexy Secret Service Agent Mike Banning! London has fallen is non-stop action and sweaty Gerard Butler.   I really shouldn’t say anymore than I already have.  The movie is on the short side of time and its really predictable. At the end of the movie I did feel like there could possibly be a third movie.  I hope if there is another, they don’t wait another 3 years.  Gerard is still sexy, but we all know why the fourth Indian Jones movie didn’t do so well. Harrison Ford got too old.  Now, I’m not say that could happen to Gerard, but Mike Banning might be too old.  lol

The Night Before

I have found my new favorite Christmas movie!!! It might have just made my favorite movie of all time! I laughed so hard I had tears streaming down my face! I couldn’t breathe either! I had to get out my inhaler!  There were also some very emotional scenes; so I cried for those too.  My eyes were so red and swollen when I left the theater.  Here are the vitals:

The Night Before is rated R by the MPAA for drug use and language throughout, some strong sexual content and graphic nudity So, three childhood friends, Ethan, Isaac and Chris, start a tradition in high school of partying like crazy together on Christmas Eve, after Ethan’s parents are killed in a car accident. The friends learn about the Holy Grail of parties called the Nutcracka Ball, but it is top secret unless they get their hot hands on an invitation! They make it their mission to find this party year after year.  After about 10 years of Christmas Eve antics, the tradition is coming to an end as they are adults now; Isaac with a wife and baby on the way, and Chris is a famous pro athlete!  The guys finally land their hands on the coveted Nutcracka Ball tickets!  Hilarity ensues as they make their way through their last crazy Christmas Eve of traditions, on their way to the biggest party of the year! Joseph Gordon-Levitt is so adorable in the film as Ethan; the orphaned friend of the group who has not had good luck in relationships or careers in his life. He discovers that his friends will always be his family, even when the old traditions end and new ones begin.  Seth Rogan kills as Isaac, the Jewish married friend, whose wife is expecting a baby. Isaac learns he doesn’t always have to be the rock of his relationships.  And Anthony Mackie rocks as Chris, the karaoke loving, pro football player who learns that fame isn’t everything! The content is dicey and raunchy, but the message is true to the spirit of the holidays!  I haven’t laughed this hard at a movie in a long time. If you like silly Seth Rogan then you must see this movie! I personally love Joseph Gordon-Levitt!  I think he is a very talented actor who I have loved since Angels in the Outfield!  And Jillian Bell is cute and quirky as the pregnant wife of Seth Rogan’s character Isaac! I really enjoyed this movie! It is definitely up there as a Christmas tradition like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! The Night Before opens in theaters November 20, 2015. I give The Night Before 5 doxies!

Basket Case,1982.”Siamese twins, seperated at an early age, avenge their separation by killing the doctors responsible.” Stars Kevin Van Hentenryck as Duane Bradley the normal looking twin. Duane carries his deformed brother Belial around in a large basket. Belial speaks to Duane telepathically.  Their twin connection is very strong.  I first saw Basket Case when I was around 11 or 12 years old.  Although it scared me, I also found it to be very fascinating.  I just love the horror genre!
